I just recently bought a new Macbook Pro 17" Unibody. It currently has 4GBs of RAM and I would like to upgrade to 8GBs. Before, I had a Macbook Pro 15" ( Old version, 2008 Penryn Version ), and I currently have 6 GBs of RAM inside ( the max, 4 GB + 2 GB ) I also have another spare 2 GB chip and 2 1GB chips for my old Macbook Pro. Would these RAM chips work for my new one, or would I have to buy new RAM?
I just went to the Apple store, and my friend (actually she is older than I am, like 15 years in difference. Just got friendly, so I call her 'friend') suggested me 100$ for 4GB upgrade. She told me that it's not possible to upgrade the RAM after the payment, but she is able to do it for me. I'm always paranoid wether the Apple employees will give me the 'older' RAMs or 'used' ones. Should I be? or just trust the employee who will swap it for me.
If I have a choice, I would like to install the new RAM for myself.
The capacity of my HD is only 120gb which is Nothing since i want to make a windows partition for gaming. What type of internal HD do i need and whats the biggest i can get? I have a Macbook5,2.
I have an iMac 27" w/ 4GB. I was looking to upgrade to 8GB. When adding more GB, do they have to be the same MHz? For example, my iMac has 1067 MHZ in it. If i get one that is 1333 MHz, will that still work with the 1067 MHz?
I updated my macbook air (mid 2012) to OSX Mavericks 10.9.4 a fortnight ago and now I cannot use my camera because the system shows that it doesn't exist.
After updating to snow leopard my quicklook doesn't work anymore. Whenever i select a file and hit space the quicklook ui pops up but it doesn't actually show any content so I'm just stuck with a grey box.
I've been looking on the web the last week but can't find anything.
So, I have just upgraded my RAM to 2GB x2 (4GB) [genuine kingston] in my 2.4 unibody MacBook, before couple days. It worked well in the first few hours, but now, applications crash for no reason at all and it won't wake up after sleep, if i turn it off then on, I get a crash report massage for the OS, here is one that I just got :

After upgrading to Maverick on my 2.93 GHz Intel core 2 duo processor with 4 GB memory and a 10.9.4 version for my OS X my canon MG5220 all in one printer scanner shows as MP Navigator EX quits unexpectedly.
On my old mac .version 10.4.11 about 3 years old. I was able to email short videos, I've since upgraded to the new IMac version 10.6.2 snow leopard and finding that I can no longer email these short video clips? Nothing has changed as far as my internet provider, only a new Mac.
Upgraded my iMac (2010) from Mavericks to Yosemite yesterday. Since when, anything I try to print to my Kodak printer grinds to a halt after there first few seconds of starting to print. The printer will print fine from another laptop. It will print test pages and direct photocopies all without a problem. Doesn't matter whether am connected via wireless or USB, the same thing happens. Am thinking I should possibly try to 'downgrade' back to Mavericks - if that is possible.
Having printer issues after upgrading? Both my printers HP deskjet 6840 and HP officejet g85 will not print properly and I have been unable to find drivers for Mac OS 10.6.8 online.
I am unable to start Parallels Desktop 7 since upgrading to Mavericks on my IMac. The error messages tell me that visualization support is disabled, unable to load Parallels driver and unable to start the virtual machine.
Info: iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
I have been using the new MBP 2010 17" model for about 10 days. It happened three times that garbages appeared on the screen for about 0.5 seconds. Twice under Mac OS and once under Boot Camp Windows Vista. Anybody else has similar problem? I saw those things when I was using the MBP (with the infamous 8600M GT) three years ago.
Thinking to upgrade my MacBook 13" HDD with an SSD, if i can find on the market, and to use the existing HDD as external back up if possible, dont know what extra piece I have to buy to connect it externatlly. Please let me know if it is possible this new alternative, my previous plan was to buy an external WD HDD.
I picked up a 13" '08 Macbook pro, everything's great apart from a dvd being stuck in the drive.
I've tried all the usual tricks that come up on google, holding eject/trackpad on start up, eject in commands/itunes and the thin piece of card under/over the disc but nothing has worked.
When holding eject it sounds like the disc hits something as it tries to eject but due to the felt I can't see inside to see what it is?
My keyboard backlight isn't working... whenever I try to turn it up it gives a circle with a line through it. I have read that there is an ambient light sensor that turns off the keyboard backlight when it is too bright, however that has NEVER happened before and I have used it in direct sunlight and the backlight still obviously works. It's not even bright right now but it won't work. This is very frustrating, there should be no sensor that turns it off it should be the brightness I tell it to be.
After opening my macbook pro from sleep sometimes, maybe all the time, when i move cursor in the top left of the screen (area approx 2 inch down by 1 inch across from top corner) where the trackpad is unresponsive. I can move the cursor around there but i cant select anything so eg, closing a tab in safari.
i have had a 13" Macbook pro for around a year now, and i never really noticed that it didnt have a backlight on the keyboard until my mom bought a 17" one (what a biter, amirite?) and it had the awesome backlight. I've tried researching this and i've downloaded labtick and it doesn't work.
Edit: I've also never spilled anything on the keyboard or anywhere. It's been like this since purchase
The backlight still lights up behind the keyboard but only brightly in a V shape in the middle of the keyboard, the rest of it is very dim.
This happened to me a while back and I just got the laptop back the other day. They had put in a new keyboard (along with a new hard drive and optical drive - but those are another story).
Just now, my backlight came on since I turned off the room's main light and turned on a small lamp and lo and behold...the backlight is messed up again! Same as it was before, I know for a fact it was working earlier today.
All I've done is change the ram and use migration assistant to get a couple things over. I'm not sure how I could have damaged the light by taking out the 3 screws for the ram door...I didn't put barely any pressure on them. I'm not sure if either of those two things caused it but I'm shocked.
Now I have to give up my computer again. Nearest apple store is over an hour, it was 3 weeks last time I gave my computer up (gave it to school's IT crew, who forwards it to apple - but I get a loaner this way).
I've tried Windows Vista and 7 on SL using VMware Fusion, and both have told me that my score was 1.0 because of the graphic card. Is there any way to trick the windows, or it is really the graphic card is not advanced enough on the MBP?
I have a macbook os x that is about 3 years old. I enabled firevault recently. This computer worked great until I enabled firevault. When I try to log in it will not take my password. After multiple attempts it ques me to type in my firevault password. It then asks me to change my password. When I do this a window pops up and says " you are unable to log in to the user account at this time. I have read many threads with the same problem. All signs point to needing an update. I dont understand how I can do an update without logging in. I read something about logging in as a root, but the instructions are not simplified enough for me to understand. Does anybody know how to fix this problem and explain at about a third grade level?
I want to install an ssd in my lower optical bay and install the OS and applications? My question is what size SSD would be sufficient. On OWC's website the price difference between the 240gb and the 480gb is $900. Will the 240gb be sufficient for the long haul or do I need to bite the bullet and get the 480gb? I will be installing 4 2gb Hitachi drives in the other hard drive bays.
