MacBook Pro :: Why Won't Trackpad Work When USB Mouse Plugged In
Jun 19, 2014
I have a logitech mouse and just recently my trackpad has started not working when it is plugged in to my right USB even though the mouse is not on. I take out the USB and the trackpad works again. The left USB still works but occasionally it will stop the trackpad as well, but I unplug it and plug it back in and everything is back to normal. My trackpad was working fine with the usb plugged in up until yesterday. What is going on and is there a way I can keep the mouse usb in my computer and still use my trackpad?

I don't know if anyone knows what I'm talking about, but in OS X, there's this option that disables input from the trackpad when an external mouse is plugged in. I couldn't find something similar to that for Windows, and since I use Boot Camp to play a few games in Windows and my palms keep swiping the corners of the trackpad (thereby making my aim wonky) I wanted something that would have the same effect.
So I Googled. And searched. And searched.
Best solution was to go to Control Panel and disable the mouse. But I'm lazy, I want something to do it for me, automatically, if possible.
So, in the interest of pure laziness, I... wrote a utility to do pretty much exactly that. It supports manually enabling or disabling the trackpad, and also automatically enabling and disabling it when an external mouse is plugged in/removed.

So, if any of you guys are using Windows to play games or do anything else, and you have the same issue with the trackpad that I do, hopefully this helps you guys out too.
If not, well, thanks for reading and I'm jealous of your smaller palms and/or dexterous avoidance of palm/trackpad slippage!
Note: Still might be bugs and things. Feedback appreciated, but constructively, of course.

Just unpacked my new iMac, the keyboard and mouse are powered up, paired, and discovered. BUT, I thought the "magic" of the mouse was that it's flat surface is supposed to work like a MacBook's trackpad. MINE DOES NOT. It just scrolls around, up and down within a window. Other than that, it works like a regular mouse, just move it, point and click. Is this right? Or did I mess up already? I called AppleCare and they say this is normal, but for what I paid, it should do more magic.

I have a late 2010 macbook air 11 inch. The battery condition is normal and about has 650 cycles. The light on my charger is green and my computer only stays on when the charger is plugged in. When I unplug it the computer just turns off and my battery says its not charging and that the power source is the adapter. Do I need a new one or is this fixable?

Would using a USB mouse on my macbook wear the battery down more than using the trackpad ?

I've had my mac for a couple months short of a year. A few weeks ago, I needed to record a quick idea for a melody my guitarist and I had. I was aware that the I/O jack were one and the same in the 2011 MBP model, so I changed my settings to allow me to use it as an input jack. No problem. The problem, though, is that I can't use it as an output jack anymore. Audio plays fine through the built in speakers but turns into static when I change the I/O setting to output and plug my headphones in.Â

The volume for my MacBook will only work if my headphones are plugged in. I've tried just about everything I could think of to fix the problem but it's still not working. I've tried blowing it out, wiggling the headphone jack, checking the sound settings from the system preferences. I've come to the conclusion that there is a problem with the sensor, but I wanted to find out if there is anything else I could try before taking it somewhere to get repaired.

I just noticed something... Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I can't figure out how on earth do I switch on the 'ignore trackpad when mouse is present' feature, when a mouse is present, if there are no setting in the system preferences for this? Did i miss something?

Since a couple of weeks, the trackpad on my mid 2010 13'' MBP sometimes keeps selecting everything when I move my mouse. The only (temporary) solution is to restart.

I starting having problems with my MacBook this morning. After being asleep I started using it again and I wasn't getting a responce from mouse or trackpad clicks. The cursor will still move but I can't select anything. Â I did a hard restart once and it went back to normal. After it happened again I did another hard restart and it wouldn't boot up again. I did two hard shut downs/restarts and it finally booted up again. Although it's still not responding.

I have a friend that has a Blackbook CD 2ghz. Anyways, he told me that after he applied some updates (10.4.11) his macbook trackpad stop registering clicks. At the beginning we thought it was the click button, but after we connected a mouse to his MB, we figured out it may be a software problem because his mac is not even registering left clicks, only right clicks with a mouse. I already tried smc reset and pram reset with no avail. Also we tried to make a new account but same problem happens. I think the only way to fix this problem is to do an archive and install, but he does not have his recuperation cd's.

I have a Macbook Pro, running Snow Leopard and from time to time my mousecursor just disappears. It's not while I'm typing but when i just hover over the screen. This happens especially when using iPhoto and Safara but also with some other applications. The cursor usually appears again when I move it over the dock and back into the application but it's kind of annoying.

had problems with the trackpad - when I tap to select an item the mouse pointer "bounces" off the item I'm trying to select. It happens randomly - not every time. I migrated all my data and settings from my old Mac Pro (2011 model, also running Mavericks) via Time Machine - could that have an impact? Not using any non-Apple power supplies or other devices.

I have a white plastic macbook which appears not to be able to connect to my wireless network. All the other PCs and a Mac Mini in the house connect fine, but the macbook does not.It has connected since i got it, both to the home network and a network in school, but today it promted me for the wireless password, connected a few times but did not give me a IP address, and now will not connect at all! The network appears in the list, i click on it, enter the wireless password, then it says connecting before connection failed.
The network setup is a Cisco router connected to the modem and then connected to the wireless too. There are no computers connected via cable to the network.

I am trying to get a Sony ECM-DS70P Condenser Stereo Microphone with a 3.5mm stereo male plug to work on my MacBook Pro with a Behringer UCA222 USB Audio Interface and I am having no joy at all.The Microphone will not work when plugged directly into the Line-in jack on the MacBook Pro because the Audio Line-In input on the MacBook is line level -10dB to+4dB and microphones are generally around -40dB. So, I need either a line level preamp or a usb audio interface.I decided on a USB Audio Interface (Behringer UCA222).The Microphone is plugged into a 3.5mm stereo to RCA L & R cable which is plugged into the L/R RCA inputs on the Behringer UCA222. The Behringer UCA222's USB Cable is plugged into a USB port on the MacBook Pro.
On the Macbook Pro in System Preferences > Sound > the output is set to Internal Speakers and the input is set to the USB Codec (Which showed up when the Behringer UCA222 was plugged in). [code]

When I start up my 2010 Macbook Pro now, the fan starts running as soon as the spinning gear appears below the apple logo, the boot up is insanely slow, the mouse doesn't track well with my trackpad movements, and trying to open programs often leads to a non-responsive program with the pinwheel of death spinning for minutes at a time. I try to shut it down (takes approx. 20 min. now) and when the screen goes black, the fan continues full blast. After that I can boot up the computer and it runs normally, but the whole process takes about 50 minutes longer than it should, especially with a relatively new SSD (~ 8 months old).
It loads well enough in safe boot, and I've tried cutting out most of the apps that launch at startup with poor results. I've also tried resetting the SMC with equally poor results.Â

I've got a black plastic MacBook running Leopard 10.5.6. My laptop was running sluggishly, but no real problems, so I restarted it, and now the keyboard and trackpad don't work at all. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC (the keyboard did work in letting me reset the PRAM, but nothing works once it boots to the login screen.)

I use my MBP 15" (the new one), as my primary machine in my office. I sit by my best usually 10-12hrs a day working on it.
I am trying to figure out what is best to do, keep the AC plugged in or have it un-plugged and only plug it in when the battery is drained (or less then 50%)? I have tried different experiments, plugged in, not-plugged and time is about the same for life of the battery. The true question is, how is is best to do it for the health of the battery.

I just installed 4GB memory into my 2.1 ghz white macbook. The memory is from crucial and it is for macs. I've pushed harder than should be necessary to try and set the memory in the slot. Its in there. When I turn my macbook on it goes to my log on screen. From there my keyboard and track pad do not work. It wont let me do anything. I can't type my password or move the cursor...? I'm completely lost!
