MacBook Air :: Why Does Only Work When Plugged In

Sep 2, 2014

I have a late 2010 macbook air 11 inch. The battery condition is normal and about has 650 cycles. The light on my charger is green and my computer only stays on when the charger is plugged in. When I unplug it the computer just turns off and my battery says its not charging and that the power source is the adapter. Do I need a new one or is this fixable?

MacBook Pro :: Why Won't Audio Work With Headphones Plugged In

Mar 8, 2012

I've had my mac for a couple months short of a year. A few weeks ago, I needed to record a quick idea for a melody my guitarist and I had. I was aware that the I/O jack were one and the same in the 2011 MBP model, so I changed my settings to allow me to use it as an input jack. No problem. The problem, though, is that I can't use it as an output jack anymore. Audio plays fine through the built in speakers but turns into static when I change the I/O setting to output and plug my headphones in.

MacBook :: Why Will The Volume Only Work If Headphones Are Plugged In

Mar 26, 2012

The volume for my MacBook will only work if my headphones are plugged in. I've tried just about everything I could think of to fix the problem but it's still not working. I've tried blowing it out, wiggling the headphone jack, checking the sound settings from the system preferences. I've come to the conclusion that there is a problem with the sensor, but I wanted to find out if there is anything else I could try before taking it somewhere to get repaired.

MacBook Pro :: Why Won't Trackpad Work When USB Mouse Plugged In

Jun 19, 2014

I have a logitech mouse and just recently my trackpad has started not working when it is plugged in to my right USB even though the mouse is not on. I take out the USB and the trackpad works again. The left USB still works but occasionally it will stop the trackpad as well, but I unplug it and plug it back in and everything is back to normal. My trackpad was working fine with the usb plugged in up until yesterday. What is going on and is there a way I can keep the mouse usb in my computer and still use my trackpad?

OS X :: Macbook Wireless Doesn't Work When External Display Is Plugged In?

Nov 11, 2008

I have a white plastic macbook which appears not to be able to connect to my wireless network. All the other PCs and a Mac Mini in the house connect fine, but the macbook does not.It has connected since i got it, both to the home network and a network in school, but today it promted me for the wireless password, connected a few times but did not give me a IP address, and now will not connect at all! The network appears in the list, i click on it, enter the wireless password, then it says connecting before connection failed.

The network setup is a Cisco router connected to the modem and then connected to the wireless too. There are no computers connected via cable to the network.

MacBook Pro :: Microphone Will Not Work When Plugged Directly Into Line-in Jack

Jan 31, 2012

I am trying to get a Sony ECM-DS70P Condenser Stereo Microphone with a 3.5mm stereo male plug to work on my MacBook Pro with a Behringer UCA222 USB Audio Interface and I am having no joy at all.The Microphone will not work when plugged directly into the Line-in jack on the MacBook Pro because the Audio Line-In input on the MacBook is line level -10dB to+4dB and microphones are generally around -40dB. So, I need either a line level preamp or a usb audio interface.I decided on a USB Audio Interface (Behringer UCA222).The Microphone is plugged into a 3.5mm stereo to RCA L & R cable which is plugged into the L/R RCA inputs on the Behringer UCA222. The Behringer UCA222's USB Cable is plugged into a USB port on the MacBook Pro.

On the Macbook Pro in System Preferences > Sound > the output is set to Internal Speakers and the input is set to the USB Codec (Which showed up when the Behringer UCA222 was plugged in). [code]

MacBook Pro :: Won't Find Battery Life Info / Plugged Or Not Plugged

Oct 17, 2009

I use my MBP 15" (the new one), as my primary machine in my office. I sit by my best usually 10-12hrs a day working on it.

I am trying to figure out what is best to do, keep the AC plugged in or have it un-plugged and only plug it in when the battery is drained (or less then 50%)? I have tried different experiments, plugged in, not-plugged and time is about the same for life of the battery. The true question is, how is is best to do it for the health of the battery.

OS X :: Flash Drive Will Not Work When Plugged Into PC

Oct 6, 2009

I have/had a 16 GB Kingston Data Traveler flash drive with all of my work files on it. I travel a lot for work and I was just in Italy for 2 weeks. Anyway, I went to an internet cafe to print a document before a meeting. 20 minutes before I went to this place the drive worked fine. I got to the place, and it seemed to me that the guy didn't know what he was doing. He had machines running on XP and they were extremely slow, and he just kept clicking away. He finally turned to me and said that his machine wouldn't read my drive. I blanched and tried putting it back into my Macbook and felt sick when I saw that the drive was no longer recognizable on my Mac either.

I had backed up almost everything on the server before I left for Italy, and I had emailed most of the new documents I had created while away from the office. Unluckily, there was one folder of documents that I hadn't backed up on the server because there wasn't enough space there (grrr), so I had left them on the drive. A few lessons I learned:
-back up on the desktop or hard drive as well while traveling
-bring the portable printer next time
-don't let someone mess with my jump drive

Should I reformat the drive and attempt to use it again, or should I buy a new one that is a better brand? I definitely don't want a repeat of this. This is the first time I've ever had a problem like this--all the other drives I've ever used, from expensive to cheapies, all worked fine. Is there any way to recover any of these files or should I just accept that they're gone? My guess that being an internet cafe with PCs, the computers were full of viruses and the drive became infected corrupted. When I try to repair it or verify it, I get an error message.

MacBook Pro :: Display Won't Work Without A Second Display Plugged In?

Mar 31, 2012

I'm using a Dynex Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adaptor to use a second display (an older display, I'll admit). After I have unplugged the adaptor, my MacBook still tries to read the second display, and switches back-and-forth between a blue screen & my desktop. It stabilizes once I plug the adaptor back in. What is causing this problem, and how do I fix it so I can use my primary display without having the adaptor constantly plugged in?

My white MacBook is not charging when plugged in. And if I take out the cord, the computer dies. I noticed this right after I had made a flight on an airplane so I'm assuming something happened while on the flight, even though I had my computer with me the whole time, and inside the case. I tried using compressed air to try and blow out any debris that might have got into the little charger port, but no luck.

MacBook Pro :: Turns Off If Not Plugged In?

Jan 19, 2010

I have had my MacBook Pro since May 2007. It has been working fine up until a few months ago. I will have nearly full, or fully battery and the computer will turn off, and will not turn back on unless I plug the charger in. If the charger is unplugged for 5 minutes, the computer completely shuts down. So basically I cannot use the computer unless it is plugged in. It is starting to become a pain because sometimes I need it when I am in a place without an outlet.

When I go to sleep, I generally unplug it and put the macbook to sleep. Should I keep it plugged in even though I closed the lid whilst I sleep during the night? Or should I keep unplugged it every night when I close the lid? Also, I do calibrate my battery once a month. its at 93% after 43 cycles.

MacBook Pro :: 2010 Always Says That It Is Plugged In Even When It Is Not

May 17, 2012

Macbook Pro always thinks that it is plugged in, even when it is not.  When actually plugged in it says charging, and when I unplug it then it shows the plug symbol and says Power Source: Power Adapter.

I tired reseting the PRAM, and doing the thing where you turn it off, unplug for 10 seconds, plug in for 5 seconds then power on, not sure what else I can do, and if it is an internal issue with the Magsafe if it is covered by AppleCare.

MacBook Pro :: Best For Battery Health - Plugged In Or Not?

Aug 24, 2010

I just bought the new MBP 13" 'cause I'm gonna need it for college, but since I'll also use it as "personal computer", for web browsing, playing music and movies, I'll probably have to charge every day. My question is: if I got home and my MBP is dead, I plug it in and use it, when the battery is fully charged, I have to unplug it or I can use it for the night (still plugged in) and just unplug it the next day for school?

Is it somehow harmful to my battery life? And by the way, I've read that "discharge the battery" means just use at least until the 50%, is that right? So if I charge it just when it's about 40%, I just need to recalibrate once a month, and that's all fine, right?

MacBook :: Plugged In And Connected But No Charging

Nov 6, 2010

In the last few months I have been having trouble charging my Macbook (Early 2008). My computer is about 2 and a half years old. When I plug in my Macbook with the MagSafe power adapter, the little light that is supposed to show up green or red usually does not show up at all. Sometimes the light shows up green when it is not fully charged. Also, when my Macbook is plugged in, it does not usually start charging, though the charge on the battery will stay static. For example, I have been using my Macbook for the last 3 hours. Even though it's plugged in, the charge on the battery is still at 38%. I have tried shutting down my computer, popping out the battery, and then putting the battery back in. This allowed me to start charging my computer one time, but it obviously did not fix the problem. One time I held my Macbook and shook it up and down a couple of times, and when I plugged it in again, it started charging. Here is my hardware information:

MacBook Pro :: Use Display While Plugged Into G5 As External?

Nov 9, 2010

I have this gorgeous 22" ACD that I have plugged into my G5, where I use it quite often. But my intention for the G5 was to be a server, which it is. I often need some extra display space when I'm doing school work, or coding, so I was wondering if there is a way that I can use the display, while plugged in to the G5, as an external display for my MBP. Preferably something that I could stream over my local network.
