MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Keeps Selecting When Mouse Moved?
Aug 15, 2010
Since a couple of weeks, the trackpad on my mid 2010 13'' MBP sometimes keeps selecting everything when I move my mouse. The only (temporary) solution is to restart.

The trackpad of my macbookair (2012) keeps selecting. On the screen appear squares and while using applications it keeps selecting...the problem started suddenly, while I was working in Word, no clear cause...

This is fantastic! Say if you have more than one tab open in safari and you press quit. You know that little box comes up "are you sure you want to quit?" I just discovered that wherever the mouse is on the screen it will move to the quit button, so you don't have to move the mouse to click it. I believe this is the case for other things, empty the trash etc. Its only safari. Have 2 tabs open. Hit command Q.

Would using a USB mouse on my macbook wear the battery down more than using the trackpad ?

Besides the not-so-comfortable feeling of holding the Mighty Mouse, I came across this problem where when the mouse is moved slowly, the precision is lost, but this doesn't happen when I am in bootcamp XP. Is this a common problem with the Mighty Mouse?

I just noticed something... Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I can't figure out how on earth do I switch on the 'ignore trackpad when mouse is present' feature, when a mouse is present, if there are no setting in the system preferences for this? Did i miss something?

I really miss being able to flick to auto scroll when not using the magic mouse.
Seems this should be possible?

I starting having problems with my MacBook this morning. After being asleep I started using it again and I wasn't getting a responce from mouse or trackpad clicks. The cursor will still move but I can't select anything. I did a hard restart once and it went back to normal. After it happened again I did another hard restart and it wouldn't boot up again. I did two hard shut downs/restarts and it finally booted up again. Although it's still not responding.

I have a logitech mouse and just recently my trackpad has started not working when it is plugged in to my right USB even though the mouse is not on. I take out the USB and the trackpad works again. The left USB still works but occasionally it will stop the trackpad as well, but I unplug it and plug it back in and everything is back to normal. My trackpad was working fine with the usb plugged in up until yesterday. What is going on and is there a way I can keep the mouse usb in my computer and still use my trackpad?

I have a friend that has a Blackbook CD 2ghz. Anyways, he told me that after he applied some updates (10.4.11) his macbook trackpad stop registering clicks. At the beginning we thought it was the click button, but after we connected a mouse to his MB, we figured out it may be a software problem because his mac is not even registering left clicks, only right clicks with a mouse. I already tried smc reset and pram reset with no avail. Also we tried to make a new account but same problem happens. I think the only way to fix this problem is to do an archive and install, but he does not have his recuperation cd's.

I have a Macbook Pro, running Snow Leopard and from time to time my mousecursor just disappears. It's not while I'm typing but when i just hover over the screen. This happens especially when using iPhoto and Safara but also with some other applications. The cursor usually appears again when I move it over the dock and back into the application but it's kind of annoying.

had problems with the trackpad - when I tap to select an item the mouse pointer "bounces" off the item I'm trying to select. It happens randomly - not every time. I migrated all my data and settings from my old Mac Pro (2011 model, also running Mavericks) via Time Machine - could that have an impact? Not using any non-Apple power supplies or other devices.

When I start up my 2010 Macbook Pro now, the fan starts running as soon as the spinning gear appears below the apple logo, the boot up is insanely slow, the mouse doesn't track well with my trackpad movements, and trying to open programs often leads to a non-responsive program with the pinwheel of death spinning for minutes at a time. I try to shut it down (takes approx. 20 min. now) and when the screen goes black, the fan continues full blast. After that I can boot up the computer and it runs normally, but the whole process takes about 50 minutes longer than it should, especially with a relatively new SSD (~ 8 months old).
It loads well enough in safe boot, and I've tried cutting out most of the apps that launch at startup with poor results. I've also tried resetting the SMC with equally poor results.
Here's my Etresoft report as well. etreCheck version: 1.9.15 (52)Report generated August 27, 2014 at 10:51:10 AM MDT Hardware Information: ? MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) (Verified) MacBook Pro - model: MacBookPro7,1 1 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU: 2 cores 4 GB RAM

I got my new MacBook Late 2008 and I'm looking for the option, that the trackpad gets turned off when a mouse is connected. But this feature got removed on the new Macbooks. But I still want this feature. Is there a command in Terminal to enable this option anyway?

I just got my new $599 Mac Mini hooked up tonight. Wow. This thing is fast considering I still have only the 1GB of memory in it. For regular stuff, it feels as fast as my 2.4 GHZ iMac with 4GB of memory and normal speed hard drive.
Anyway, it works pretty good with my TV.
However, what type of keyboard or mouse do you recommend? Right now I'm having to use my powerbook to control it, using teleport along with a wired keyboard and mouse plugged into the back, hidden, just so it doesn't complain about not having one.
I don't know if I should go with the two Apple products, keyboard and mouse.
OR should I get a keyboard with a built in trackpad, since I will mainly be using it on the couch. What do you recommend?

I currently use a Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan with my Mac Mini. Worked great and I have always liked trackballs due to limited desk space required. It has been acting up the last couple of days. New batteries will not help. Reconnecting to the base does not always help. It is just starting to get frustrating.I do not use the Mac Mini very often. I got it originally as my iTunes "server" for my Apple TV. However, I have found it a great companion when doing research for work while I have my work computer doing other things.I have experience with the MBP trackpad since I picked up a new 17" i7 MBP earlier this summer. I really like it a lot.

I am currently using the Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse at the same time and finding it to be a good setup. However there is one minor annoyance, they are both paired and recognised by the mac but I always have to go into bluetooth prefs and connect to the mouse whereas the pad connects automatically. Is there any way to make the mac auto connect to both devices at the same time to avoid this?

I recently got a preowned iMac which came with the Apple Wired Keyboard (with numeric keypad) and a Logitech mouse. Ive always been a fan of the idea of the Mighty Mouse even although it is old, the Magic Mouse looks really classy and cool but I do do a lot of graphic design and I am on the Mac quite a lot and I have heard it can get rather uncomfortable. And the Magic Trackpad, I am honestly not too sure about at all, what do you guys think would be best for me? I am a new Mac user so I am unsure what would be best for different features, thanks

After many years of using a PeeCee for my personal machine, I've switched over to Mac. I've never been a fan of trackpads for pointers/mice until I purchased my uMBP (2 weeks ago today). The MBP trackpad is the first trackpad I've used and liked.
I have played with the magic mouse a few times, and I just don't like the operation of it. It's too low to the desktop and I'd prefer something that is stationary for "mousing"...
Is there a good trackpad alternative for the desktops that uses identical gestures to the uMBP trackpad? I've seen the Wacom Bamboo family and see that they support gestures -- but I don't know if the gestures are identical between something like this and the uMBPs trackpad.

This was a widely discussed issue a few years ago, but I'm not finding any recent chatter.

For the most part, I prefer using a good trackpad over a mouse, but there are still some things that a mouse does much better (i.e games). Do you think (or even better - know) that I would be able to pair both my mouse and trackpad to my mac, using the one I prefer at any given time?
