Intel Mac :: Tool Bar Won't Drop Down While Being Online And Can't Click Out Of Tabs?
May 25, 2012When I'm online, my tool bar won't drop down when I move my mouse to the top of the screen. I have to keep pushing the ESC key until the screen finally minimizes. Also, I no longer have the little x in the left corner of my tabs, I have to right click the tabs in order to exit out of them.

MacBook :: Battery Icon Sometimes Shows No Battery Or If It Shows Battery Is Recognized, It Isn't Charged
Jan 4, 2010I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

Sep 10, 2010My icons are disappearing. Apps I download dont have icons and when I throw them in the trash the trash icon on the dock disappears. Also, when I plug in a flash drive or external drive, no icon shows up, just text. My folders that have custom icons are blank now too. How do I fix this?

Aug 14, 2010I have a Intel Dual-Core Intel Xeon. I boot from FW drives all the time. A client came in with their OS on a WD My Book Studio LX. I plug in via FW 800, but holding the option key on boot does not display the clients FW/OS drive. I can go into startup disk, select their drive from there, but when the computer restarts I get to the grey Apple screen and it just stays there spinning and then the Mac restarts itself.
One strange addition; when I boot to my good OS, their drive shows up with an internal drive icon as opposed to the regular FW icon. they brought their new 8-core system off their bus and we are able to boot off that computer from the FW drive no problem.

Sep 5, 2014Mac Pro 8 core with LG 21:9 monitor, res set to 3440x1440. It thinks there is also a Sony 1080P monitor attached. Some programs will open their window in some place I cannot see, I am assuming on the non existent monitor. There is no cycling through or access to anywhere else. If I open a new screen (#4) and try to open Messages it also will not display the window. The dock indicates that the program is open but if you click on the icon the program menu does not appear at the top of the screen.

Jul 8, 2009my mac seems to be slower as the days go by. on the start up screen when i first got it i can type in my password and when it goes to my desktop the macintosh hd icon is already there and the tool bar at the top with the battery and time is already there too. but now when i log in it seems to take time to load the macintosh icon and the tool bar. i also bought AirPort Express the little accessory that plugs into the wall and lets you get wi fi off of and wireless air tunes and printing.

May 23, 2012My Mail Icon shows 3 unread messages. When I open Mail, my iCloud account icon shows only 1 unread message which I cannot find. When I check iCloud.com, there are no unread messages. I have multiple accounts to access and multiple within each account. I have searched all accounts and files; I have checked "Mark all as Unread", then checked "Mark all as Read", but same reaction.

OS X Yosemite :: Image While Composing Mail Just Shows Up As Icon?
Dec 1, 2014When I compose a message in mail and drag an images into the mail it just shows up as an icon. So I can't see the image in the mail. I relized today that when I send the mail and the recipient opens tha mail the image is just displayed really really small..  I've tried to setup a new user on the same machine and when I compose a mail with that user drag and drop works beautifully and the images shows in the mail just as it should.I’ve tried: defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 1 (and I tried setting it to 0 as well) but no difference. I’m running 10.10.1 and mail 8.1.  Anyway I can solve this or a work-around would be great that doesn't involve migrating to the test account.. Can I either reset the mailsettings, or copy any .plist that hold the mail.app settings from the test account (where it works as it should)?Â

MacBook :: White MB Shows X On Battery Icon But It Works Fine?
Dec 5, 2010I don't get this. My mom's white MacBook (Intel IGP model) showed an X across the battery like it doesn't work, so I bought her a new battery for it. However, I installed the new battery and it still shows an X but it actually does work. I figured it out by accident. I thought maybe I bought a bad battery. I tripped over the magsafe and the MB stayed on... confused, I am now here. Not finding much about this.
What causes OS X to display an X across the battery icon? Doesn't this usually mean the battery is ruined? When pushing the button on the bottom of the battery, it shows five LEDs as it's fully charged and working. I unplugged it several times, and the MB stays on.
It also reduces the screen brightness and seems to go into battery power saving settings when unplugged. So how do I get OS X to see the battery? It must be charging properly as it's not hot or bulging or anything at all.
The problem is simply that it's not showing the battery information at all as though there were no battery plugged into the MacBook. But it works as though it's plugged in and all is normal?

May 30, 2012Just recently Finder has stopped behaving as it normally would. Clicking the icon doesn't seem to launch the finder window. I have to right click the finder icon and then click New Finder Window. Sometimes there is no response for sometime and then finally it does open a window. If I click finder when a window is open it does not shift focus to finder anymore.

PowerPC :: Hd Not Picking Up / Grey Screen Shows Up With Icon And No Spinning Wheel
Nov 28, 2008I changed the permissions from read only to read and write on my start up HD and chose the change everything inside option to read and write. After I did this, my secondary HD no longer allowed me to use it saying I did not have permission. When I tried to change it all selections were in custom mode and would not accept my changes. Same with my main HD.
I rebooted and the grey screen shows up with icon and no spinning wheel. I tried safe mode...same thing. I even tried booting off my back up firewire drive and got a null sign on the grey screen instead of an apple icon. Booted up from the G5 disk and tried to run utilities permissions repair and it would not do it, gave me an error, "No valid packages". Ran disk repair and it said nothing needs repairing. I then booted up using Disk Warrior and rebuilt the HD's directory successfully, but still the G5 will not boot past the icon grey screen, no spinning wheel. I'm spinning though...HELP, I'm dying here. FYI this is a G5 dual core Cypher running Leopard with 3.5 gigs of ram. The start up HD is 250 gig and the secondary is 500 gig
OS X :: ITunes Icon Refuses To Be Changed (only ITunes Icon)
Oct 18, 2009 I'm trying to change my icons in mac. I've been using Liteicon for this, but since (apparently) you can't change the iTunes icon using it, I tried doing it by going to the applications folder, selecting iTunes, going to "get info" and then dragging the new icon to the top left corner where the iTunes icon is.
Problem is, it won't change. The cursor will change into a cursor with a little green ball with a + in it, but there is no effect. I tried unlocking the lock on the bottom right side of the window, made no difference.
I've googled this and searched this forum for a couple of hours, got nothing.
By the way, I changed the Firefox icon the same exact way, no problem. I'm running as an admin as well.
Software :: Flashing Earth Icon - Cannot Left Click - Dock Gone - Menu Drop Downs Blank
May 9, 2009When I turn on my Powerbook G4 (1.5 GHz) 15" a little Earth icon flashes about 15x. Then a small question mark flashes followed by the Mac smiley face icon. They alternate flashing about a dozen times or so. My computer then goes to the grey-on-grey Apple logo screen, then to the password login screen. I enter password and successfully get to my desktop, HOWEVER:
(1)the font on my menu bar seems to have changed. No big deal?
(2)The menu bar is incomplete as I'm missing my internet signal indicator
(3)My dock is completely gone. Cannot find it anywhere.
(4)I have desktop icons but cannot left click on any of them. When I do I just get a long blank white colored rectangle. When I roll cursor over it it turns blue. Still blank though!
(5)This is the same with the menu bar. When I click on anything (Finder, File, Edit, View, etc) the drop down menu is just blank empty space
