MacBook Pro :: Very Slow In Starting-up - Impossible To Move Any Icons Around Screen - Click - Drag

Feb 4, 2010

We've had a Macbook now for about 18 months - no problems. However, last night it was very slow in starting-up and then we found it impossible to move any icons around the screen (click+drag). We have just five small folders on the desktop.

Although 'hiding' is 'on', the dock has also disappeared completely and settings for the dock cannot be changed under preferences.

The Macbook won't turn off under 'shut-down', we have to shut-down by holding pressing 'on' button.

MacBook Pro :: Track Pad Stuck On Right-Click And Drag?

Oct 28, 2009

I did a search and didn't see anybody with the same problem. I have an Oct 2008 (unibody) MBP with 2.8 ghz core 2 duo, 4GB RAM, 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD.So I loaded a YouTube page, paused a video to let it load and suddenly when I tried to click "play" the track pad seemed to not be working. I then realized that it was highlighting all the text and I couldn't click out of it. Likewise, when I apple-q safari, it began selected icons in my desktop. I noticed I could still two-finger-tap to right click and open a context menu, but I can't select anything within that menu.

I can't imagine the notebook suddenly became damaged. I know early macbook pros had a similar problem due to the battery swelling, but I opened the battery compartment and the battery feels very cool. I also read that resetting the SMC and repairing disk permissions might help, but that didn't do anything either.

MacBook Pro :: Drag To Folder Install Or Move Application

Because I don't want wasted space having the same file on my HDD. Can I delete the original spot of the filer without messing things up?

MacBook Pro :: Enabling Single Click+select To Drag Windows On Trackpad Of MBP

May 5, 2012

Before I formatted and reinstalled Lion on my MBP, I could select a window by tapping on its top bar and drag it using single finger on my trackpad. After reinstalling it, I am unable to do so. I have investigated the trackpad features in System Preferences, but it shows only the three-finger drag option. How do I get to select + drag a windown using single tap.

MacBook Pro :: Computer Was Steadily Starting To Slow Down And Freeze Everyone Once In Awhile?

Sep 13, 2009

Well, here is my situation. About a few months ago my computer was steadily starting to slow down and freeze everyone once in awhile, then it started to get worse and finally I couldn't even get past the blue loading screen during startup. I figured this was due to some movies I downloaded and even though it is rare I may have got a virus. So I reformatted and lost all my data. The computer worked for a few months until this past week when I was in the hospital of all times to start acting up again. However, this time I barely had anything on it and it started to do the same thing again but much quicker though the process. Within two days I couldn't get past the blue loading screen.

I called apple, and they had me go through a bunch of restarts and all there trouble shooting processes. The computers hardware checked out perfect and we tried to delete some files to correct a software problem, but that didn't work either. So, his next option was to have me completely reformat once again to fix the problem. So, I reformatted once again, lost all my data once again and now it is doing it again the very next day.The MacBook is less than a year old and I purchased AppleCare with it. However, I was wondering since they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it what are they going to do since they don't know what is wrong?

If they give me a refurbished one, that would most likely mean that Im getting an older one because I purchases this laptop in September last year right before the new models came out so this is one of the very last models that were shipped. Do you think that they might give me a new model if I ask? I don't want to deal with a refurbished model when I spent this kind of money and on top of that bought AppleCare for another $350.

MacBook Pro :: Its Slow Startup Can't Click Anything For 15 Minutes

Jun 3, 2012

First, I start it up, and there is no chime, but it does start. The boot time is rather slow. I get to the grey screen with apple spinning, then goes to a light blue screen. After that, the desktop comes up, but everything is sort of grayed out. I can move my cursor around, but I can't click anything. About 7-10 minutes after I sit there, the screen becomes clear, and I can click and run everything as usual. I know that this is not normal, but I can't figure out why. A couple side notes, the macbook seems to run sort of hot, and the AC adapter sometimes runs hot too. The heat seems to come from the middle at the bottom and in the back, so it is not where the hard drive is located. I also do not at any time have a spinning rainbow wheel, which leads me to think that it is not hard drive related.

MacBook Pro :: Slow Loading Of Internet Upon Starting An Internet Browser

Apr 28, 2012

I have a macbook pro and have recently noticed that when initially loading any of, google chrome, firefox or safari it takes a very long time for the internet to load the webpages.

It says that there is a full wireless connection but will not load the webpage.

Once the webpage has finally loaded after about a minute, subsequent browsing is as fast as can be expected upon my broadband connection, loading pages in <1s.

However the problem reappears whenever I open a new window, or anything else that might use the internet such as the app store, itunes or apple software update.

MacBook Pro :: Black Screen On It When Starting From Bootcamp To Lion

Apr 1, 2012

I bought a MacBook Pro 17inch i7 in November 2010 and it was working fine under Snow Leopard and Lion since then. Yesterday I installed Bootcamp and it was workng also. Today when starting from Bootcamp to Lion I had a Kernel Panic (had this never before) and the screen turned black.I just have the energy cable connencted to it, the computer starts somehow (noise) but no Startsound and screen keeps black. Then I made a little mistake by inserting a LION installer DVD. Cannot get this out anymore, even when I press the trackpad when starting it.I changed the internal hard drive to be sure that the problem does not come from there. I reset the PRAM. I reset the SMC. No way to get the laptop back to work.

Mac Pro :: Applications Are Starting Slow / Testing Hard Drive Speed?

Aug 17, 2009

recently I bought WD6400AAKS hard drive. I made to partitions (1st for OS and applications, 2nd one for photo files). I also did fresh OS install and loaded basic applications. Strangely I didn't notice any speed boost while booting and to be honest I feel like all applications (photoshop for example) are also starting much slower than on original hdd.

Is there any way to test hard drive if it performs as it should be? I also have 2 more older drives installed. is it possible that one of them would slow the system down?

Software :: IMac Makes Click Sound And Not Starting

Jul 22, 2009

I just got back home and I move my iMac's mouse to turn the screen back on. It turns back on and I notice the whole computer is frozen except for the mouse pointer (the dock wont zoom or anything). I hold the back power button to force it to shut down, but the machinery inside doesn't quite seem 100% settled yet, I can just barely hear a little fan moving, but then it too stops. Upon turning it back on with the backbutton, it makes a clicking sound over and over again (sounds like it could be the HD?)

It keeps making this sound then pauses, and does it again. It freezes on the white screen where the grey apple would usually appear. It's stuck on this white screen and keeps clicking, until I'm forced to shut it off from the back again. I've tried shutting it down from the back, then unplugging the power, but that hasn't done anything either. I'm using... Vista. (the specs of the iMac are in my sig.)

OS X :: Click/drag Lock Utility Or Workaround Needed?

Nov 24, 2010

In my new setup, I'm using a wireless switch interface with SwitchXS to "type." This software has mouse emulation functions, but I find them terribly clunky and slow. My wheelchair itself has a bluetooth module, so that the joystick that I drive with controls the mouse. The problem is that I can click & right-click with this device (by quickly nudging the joystick left or right), but there's no way to drag. Right now I'm making do with a dwelling app (ClickNoMo), but this too is less than ideal.

What I'm looking for is a utility that will do one of the following:Turn on drag (or "click lock") when I hold the "left click" down for a given length of time (say, 1.5 sec)Turn drag on when I triple-click (rather like a touchpad)Allow me to reassign the right-click to drag (the joystick doesn't have drivers to do this; maybe there's a bluetooth equivalent of USB Overdrive?)Some other option I haven't come up with yet...

MacBook :: Trackpad Unable To Highlight Or Drag Things / Internet Is Very Slow

Apr 3, 2009

My trackpad is now having some troubles on my Alu macbook. I can't highlight or drag things anymore. Occasionally it will work but it will be jerky and only highlight bits that I don't necessarily need. This is vital for me as I need to copy parts of statutes etc. as I'm in law school. I think I have installed the firmware update but I'm not entirely sure - if someone could link me to it that'd be grand.

My internet on campus is also extremely slow.. It doesn't have anything to do with the signal either. We have an Apple reseller on campus who said it might be a problem with the airport card.

Basically - should I take it in? Obviously it has some issues but I don't know if I'm being too pedantic or what..

OS X :: Cannot Right Click Dock Icons

Nov 5, 2009

The thing is that about a month or so I decided to change my dock skin, and just the dock, not any icon in particular. Later on I decided to go back to Leopard's original skin, once I replaced non-original skins with the original ones and had dock reseted by introducing "kill all Dock" on terminal, dock successfully reseted and looks like the original one... but somehow since then I can't no longer right-click on any of the icons in it, just can't, now I have to use cmd+Q to exit any of the applications I'm opening from dock. All other dock functions are working perfectly, like size bar and position changing.

The files I replaced/erased are:

By the way, I tried using "killall Dock" over and over again after replacing those archives and tried resetting dock using candybar application, but none of those worked for me so far.
