So I've just about run out of memory on my MAC, actually, I have! I was able to delete some things and it's already functioning much better. What is taking up so much space are my photos. I have an external drive I would like to move them all to and everything I look up says it's as easy as a drag and drop. The only problem is I'm unable to drag and drop. Nothing at all happens when I try to do that. I've tried it off of Finder with just one item and nothing will move at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my macbook and I am completely new to it. When I "drag" to application folder to install something does it completely move that file to that folder or does it make a copy of it. Because I don't want wasted space having the same file on my HDD. Can I delete the original spot of the filer without messing things up?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have managed to install virtualbox on my mba 11.6 with win 7 as the guest.
1. The only way I can move from win 7 back to osx is to hold esc and drag the cursor down through the bottom of the win 7 window. Is this how its supposed to work?
2. I have set up a shared folder on osx and set it up on virtualbox but cannot mount it as instructed through the command menu.
3. Virtualbox doesn't recognise my pen drive but osx does.
4. Would it be advantageous to use win 7 lite as I only have 160 hd?
Excuse my asking seemingly simple tasks but I'm struggling with it, and cannot put anything on win 7 until I master it.
We've had a Macbook now for about 18 months - no problems. However, last night it was very slow in starting-up and then we found it impossible to move any icons around the screen (click+drag). We have just five small folders on the desktop.
Although 'hiding' is 'on', the dock has also disappeared completely and settings for the dock cannot be changed under preferences.
The Macbook won't turn off under 'shut-down', we have to shut-down by holding pressing 'on' button.
new user...how do you drag or move or copy a file or folder from the desktop to an external drive? I have tried dragging and copy/pasting.

I think it is because I deleted the StartUpitems folder thinking it was Start Up Items. I was going through deleting anything with the name of a application I no longer used. I do not know what to do, but I cannot drag or paste any files.
It afects all users. Is there anything besides Install and Archive that I can do?
I do not have an install disk.
just recently, as of 2 or 3 days ago, I suddenly cannot drag songs in itunes anymore. More specifically, I can't add songs to playlists, and I can't manage songs in the playlists. anyone else having this problem, or is this something new in itunes? (I should say that I haven't used itunes in a few weeks, and the only thing I've done is download the latest updates

I've been experiencing some kind of trouble with drag & drop in Finder and desktop.Whenever I click+drag a file, I can't release this file. I click, right click, space bar, whatever, and the file stills on drag for some time and then it releases itself.
When I reboot everything is fine, until after some time it starts with the problem again.Just now what I noticed was: when the file is locked on drag, if I do ESC+click it releases but I can't move files or anything else.
I can't drag and drop files/folders nor even move anything on my desktop....
I have to say the "upgrade" to Lion has been the most frustrating ever.
I'm not too sure what forum this fits in.I'm looking for suggestions for a work-around solution. My files are beyond chaotic. I want to search document contents for a topic (that I have hundreds of files on, but all over the place) using the finder. Then, I want to be able to drag and drop all the files into a topic folder. But, the search/finder window does not permit drag-and-drop functionality.
To me, this is hugely frustrating. It would be the easiest way for me to organize my mad mad files.I'm looking for suggestions for how I can do this? I'm on MacBook Pro OS 10.6.4
So I have a friend who is a pc who gave me his hp hard drive with simple save, one of those hard drives with software that com pies things automatically. When I plug it in it show up fine and I can look in the folder and I have read write access as you would expect on any hard drive. But when I try to drop stuf in I can't, and I obviously can't reformat it because he needs to use it. Any idea to work around it or what may cause this issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got a Sumvision Cyclone Media Player and connected to my mac book pro. It found the drive called as "New Volume". Open the folder and had different folders inside: Movies, Music, Pictures, System Volume Information. If I get into the folders as for example "Movies" files I cannot drag any files to the folders since a message comes for example:
The item "XXXXX.avi" could not be moved because "New Volume" cannot be modified. What should I do? Is that because I am using a Mac computer? And if so do I need to erase and reformat the drive or what? Desperate here.
I want to drag and drop some files from one folder to another. But I want to keep the original. Can that be done on OSX?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new to mac and a pro windows user. It's not been a month since I bought my first mac and now I'm feeling so comfortable with it.
I have a basic question on how to select a few files, drag and drop it into a new folder in the same folder level
For example, In windows I do this
1. Select few files in C:Temp
2. Cut those
3. Create a new folder and rename it C:TempNewTemp
4. Right click the folder and Paste it.
This is what I do in Mac now
1. Choose the files to be moved into a new folder (When I'm about to drag it, I remember that I've not created the new folder! Grr..)
2. Create a new folder and all my selection is gone
3. Now reselect all the files again and drop it to the new folder (Phew!)
Am I missing the cut feature in finder??? I know that 'Cut' is not much required in mac since everything works on DragNDrop.
I'm not sure whether there is any workaround for people like me who are used to selecting the files before creating a target folder. I'm sure that there should be something which can help me create a folder onthefly while dragging the files and keeping the selection intact.
How do you select multiple files to drag from one folder to another? Is there a command?

I'm planning to reinstall Snow Leopard. I'm using Time Machine. I want to avoid automatic solutions like "Restore from Time Machine backup" and the Migration Assistant because I want to make sure my system stays clean.
This is how I imagine it:I boot my freshly installed system, plug in my Time Machine external drive, open it with Finder and start dragging back all the stuff I need (Photos, Music and Documents) just as if it were a regular external hard drive with files on it. Then I will reinstall all applications manually.
Will this work? Please tell me if you have ever tried this and whether it worked. Will this not cause problems with permissions or anything like that?
On my G4 800MHZ Power PC I run OS 10.1.5 while running OS 9 in the background - I never upgraded my system out of FEAR - I publish 2 monthly magazines and have never been crazy enough to take the step.I have just encountered a HUGE PROBLEM because my superdrive has decided not to burn any type of DVD I have purchased - I HAVE PURCHASED THEM ALL. and it just does nothing when I put the disk in. What I am hoping to find is an external DVD burner that will run using OS 10.1.5 - I am happy burning through the finder - I do not need any fancy software just a drive that will work and allow me to mount the DVD so I can drag and drop files.
