I know Automator can click on files just by recording my own "Watch Me Do"s, but it never recognizes file dragging actions. All it will do is click on the file, then move the cursor after releasing the file. Is there a command I'm missing that will accomplish dragging?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook pro and a while ago I decided to free up unused programs. I deleted Automator because I figured I would never need to use it, Im rather hesitant about running scripts.
Anyway, now I find myself needing to run a script to tweak over a thousand pictures; I have the exact script needed but no way to use it.
I can't find a download for the actual program, all I get are downloads for scripts for automator; it's really giving me a headache.
I read another thread here from way back in 2005 about finding it on the OS disc, unfortunately I do not have the Leopard disc because my MBP was given to me by my school as part of a technology thing.
I use the Dvorak keyboard layout on my MacBook Pro, but like to use the Dvorak-Qwery Command option, which means that Cmd+* uses the Qwerty layout (When I try to use Dvorak for Cmd, I always end up pressing Cmd+Q when I don't mean to).
This works great in every app I've tried so far, except for one: Microsoft Word (and possibly the other Office apps as well). Initially, I dismissed it as a problem with Word 2004, and figured it would be fixed in 2008. I was mistaken - kind of.
Command Drag doesn't remove account name from taskbar? It just pops back next to spotlight? Anyone know where the setting is for this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere are many things about Lion that irk the crap outta me, but this one is near the top. In ALL previous versions of Finder, one could, in list view, select a bunch of files by dragging over them, then, holding the command key down, add more non-contiguous files to the selection, again by dragging. If you try that in Lion, it starts dragging the whole lot of what you just selected to, usually, the root folder of the window you have open.Â
It appears that the only way to add extra non-contiguous files to a selection is to individually click each one of them.
I have not tried all of the things people have said to do on the internet because all of them have said it didn't work. I bought and used the mackeeper but this didn't solve my problem either.
Nothing on my computer will let me click and drag anything. It doesn't work in any application, or the desktop (in Expose I am able to move around those applications, but nothing else). I have had this problem for quite some time now.Â

anyone notice a delay when u double-click and drag something in bootcamp? it seems like there's a 1-second delay u have to wait for before you can drag a window around.

I have an Oct 2008 (unibody) MBP with 2.8 ghz core 2 duo, 4GB RAM, 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD.So I loaded a YouTube page, paused a video to let it load and suddenly when I tried to click "play" the track pad seemed to not be working. I then realized that it was highlighting all the text and I couldn't click out of it. Likewise, when I apple-q safari, it began selected icons in my desktop. I noticed I could still two-finger-tap to right click and open a context menu, but I can't select anything within that menu.
I can't imagine the notebook suddenly became damaged. I know early macbook pros had a similar problem due to the battery swelling, but I opened the battery compartment and the battery feels very cool. I also read that resetting the SMC and repairing disk permissions might help, but that didn't do anything either.
In my new setup, I'm using a wireless switch interface with SwitchXS to "type." This software has mouse emulation functions, but I find them terribly clunky and slow. My wheelchair itself has a bluetooth module, so that the joystick that I drive with controls the mouse. The problem is that I can click & right-click with this device (by quickly nudging the joystick left or right), but there's no way to drag. Right now I'm making do with a dwelling app (ClickNoMo), but this too is less than ideal.
What I'm looking for is a utility that will do one of the following:Turn on drag (or "click lock") when I hold the "left click" down for a given length of time (say, 1.5 sec)Turn drag on when I triple-click (rather like a touchpad)Allow me to reassign the right-click to drag (the joystick doesn't have drivers to do this; maybe there's a bluetooth equivalent of USB Overdrive?)Some other option I haven't come up with yet...
My track pad is not working after i upgraded my os x to yosemite and surprisingly just the double click is working!
Also i have checked my trackpad setting in system preferences.

It feels like there is less room for the left button to press down and the right button clicks loudly when I press down on it. Everything still woks in terms of clicking but it's so annoying to have to press down harder than I have to.

Before I formatted and reinstalled Lion on my MBP, I could select a window by tapping on its top bar and drag it using single finger on my trackpad. After reinstalling it, I am unable to do so. I have investigated the trackpad features in System Preferences, but it shows only the three-finger drag option. How do I get to select + drag a windown using single tap.

We've had a Macbook now for about 18 months - no problems. However, last night it was very slow in starting-up and then we found it impossible to move any icons around the screen (click+drag). We have just five small folders on the desktop.
Although 'hiding' is 'on', the dock has also disappeared completely and settings for the dock cannot be changed under preferences.
The Macbook won't turn off under 'shut-down', we have to shut-down by holding pressing 'on' button.
However, what's the command for the delete button?
I tried googling it, but the only result (fn+backspace), didn't work.
I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm using a Danish keyboard.
I've been trying to install some software, however, every time I try to do the "make" command on a Makefile, I get the following error: -bash: make: command not found. The manual page does not exists either. I have no idea why the "make" command doesn't exists. I might have added a missing command in the past, but I don't remember. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.7. Can anyone guess what the problem is?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using the command "touch" in the terminal to set the creation date of some old home movies I'm dumping on HD.
I can move the creation date back with the following command:
MacPro:~ scott$ touch -t 200308311500 /Users/scott/Desktop/2-month-bath.mov
The problem now, I cannot move the date back up (when I fat finger)... EVEN if I move the modified date way in the future, the creation date won't move back up with it... Give the command a try on a garbage file and see what I mean.

After cleaning up my house and noticing I have a very lengthy movie collection I decided I should probably back them up incase anything happened. I have been thinking of investing in another mac to do this. (just gives me a reason to give the lady of the house an excuse to buy one haha) But I was wondering is there any way I can just Rip my dvd's straight to .iso? I figure if i ever need a copy iso would provide me the quick way to make it. I cant find any straight software that rips to iso. Im preferably looking for free software but I wouldn't mind investing 30 bucks or so in a decent app. I also assume if its an iso I should be able to just burn it to a new dvd with Disk Utility. Is this correct or will the software be capable of doing it.

I understand when I make an automator 'application', it appears and can be drug to the applications folder. But when I make a folder action, or a service or whatever, where does the action go (so I can edit it again, later) or delete it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI move an action into the workflow space. Now, I realize that I made a mistake (God forbid) and I want to remove that action. PLEASE tell me how in the world do I do that. I click on the 'x' in the top right corner and nothing happens. I click on it and press delete key. Zilch. I even drag it to the trash (out of desperation). Perhaps my Automator.app is corrupt. I can't think of any other reason I'm not able to delete an action from the workflow. How do I reinstall in Snow Leopard? I can't using the install disk because Automator is not one of the apps designated. Can I download it (the app)? I seem to be the only person in the universe that has this problem (not being able to delete an action). I've googled my fingers raw.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to convert a text file to an audio file by using 'text to speech'. Originally, the text was created in Pages but just in case I also saved it as an rtf file. I want to save it as an mp3. Also, once I've got the workflow, I would like to use this again with other text files. I know I can save the workflow and I can do the task by Automator, but I must be doing something wrong. Should I use the 'record' function? What am I doing wrong? I called AppleCare but of course, after 15 minutes they recommended their online discussions. They don't know anything about these basics. The guy asked me, what I tried. I told him that I tried Terminal, but I was confident that Automator and creating a workflow would be the solution for me. He didn't even know where Automator was. I suppose, this was the last time that I purchased an AppleCare.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI really like iTunes 10. Clean, uncluttered, easily usable. BUT I have an automator action set for 7:30am every day as an alarm to wake me. This action plays a playlist in iTunes called "morning alarm" and has worked for months beautifully. When I loaded the action in Automator I got an error to say that the "play iTunes playlist" action, the auto iPhone sync action and set iTune volume actions we no longer valid. Those actions appear not to exist any longer in iTunes 10. Has anyone else had similar problems? Did you get a work-around?
View 5 Replies View RelatedUnlike Windows, this damn-ded MacOS X won't ask what to do when moving several items with the same name to a single location. In Vista and 7, it asks if you want to replace all similarly named items with a single of the items or if you want to put all of the similarly named items in the new location and append an annotation at the end of the file name. (I think Windows appends "Copy #" to duplicates) So, I'm left with, "File, File 2, File 3, file 4" in a single folder. I need an Automator action to sort this out and simply move or delete the duplicates.
The simplest action I can think is: Ask for files>get files>select files with similar filenames, neglecting the last characters if they are numerals>reference the size (with accuracy of 1 byte) of selected files>label files of the same size red>select red files>move red files to a selected folder. How can I get these sort of tools? I need a measuring action and another action that will compare file names...
Does anyone know of any Automator Actions to modify System Preferences? Specifically I have the bottom right screen corner set to do Desktop Exposé when I point the cursor there, and I want to make a workflow to toggle this on and off. I've never used Automator before so I don't know a whole lot about it.
