MacBook Pro :: Move App Icons To A Different Screen?
Jun 23, 2014
Can I move app icons to a different screen on my macbook. When my macbook starts up,the main screen only shows wallpaper. Can I move icons for my most used apps to this screen?
We've had a Macbook now for about 18 months - no problems. However, last night it was very slow in starting-up and then we found it impossible to move any icons around the screen (click+drag). We have just five small folders on the desktop.
Although 'hiding' is 'on', the dock has also disappeared completely and settings for the dock cannot be changed under preferences.
The Macbook won't turn off under 'shut-down', we have to shut-down by holding pressing 'on' button.
Subject pretty much says it all. The Mac is a macBook with Yosemite. The iPhone is an iPhone6. When I plug the iPhone in, select the iPhone, select apps,
I see a list of apps located approximatly in the middle of the screen, with the option to select remove or install. On the right the home screens are shown etc.
I'm unable to select an icon on any of these screens. When I click an icon and attempt to drag it, ITunes wants to move the entire home screen.
So im trying to move the desktop icons around and for some reason the computer wont let me do it. Ive also tried doing it on a flash drive and it wont work either, the only thing I can think of is that maybe its a setting of some kind but ive checked several difrent settings and its not what I need ( displays, desktop, general).

I attempt to drag a dock icon to a new location on the dock, but it won't let me. The other icons don't separate so the icon will drop to the location I want. Randomly, items will separate when I hover over so I could drop the item between them, but only in that spot and no other locations. What am I missing here?
So, I'm unable to put the dock icons exactly where I want them. I've installed all updates.
Im soon to buy a macbook, and coming from a PC, I was wondering if its possible to swap around the +, - etc from the top left of the windows to the top right as it feels more natural to work that way.
this has been bugging me for a while now. I Somehow switched on 2 icons at the top menu bar (the one where the time is and so on) its the sync icon (the on next to bluetooth) and the one which looks like this <...> they hvae both gota go because they are bugging the crap out of me the <....> is for ppoe configurations (again no idea how I swiched that on)
Not able to move the desktop file icons or copy/move files in between folders ... I've tried right clicking, then "show view options" but nothing seems to be working.
I was dragging some files from one folder to another inside the (Snow Leopard) Finder and accidentally dragged them up into the top bar of the Finder window itself. How do I remove them from this position? I can't drag them off because as soon as I click on them, they open.

MUST FIX: I CANNOT MOVE any icons or folders whatsoever (except to the Trash)! I checked the log too, but I have no idea what to look for there. This happened right about 1-2 days ago (11/20-22/2009).
BONUS FIX: As for iTunes, well it got bugged (clicked and didn't activated), so I deleted it and I don't know how to reinstall iTunes. This happened some years back, so I almost forgot about it.
so I am try to fix a macbook that was updated to 10.5.7 it appears there is an issue with finder, files or folders can't be move (nothing is locked), spotlight icon and time are gone from the menu bar, no programs will print. I have tried restarting, repairing permissions, removing safari beta 4 (downgraded back to 3) with no luck. Trying the combo update is my next thought?
I have a 2nd monitor attached to my MBAir. I have icons (folders, a few files, and some aliases - not a lot!!) positioned on both monitors. I can work this way just fine for days. (Yes, I do restart nightly and, yes, after a basic restart all the icons stay put.) But sometimes, out of the blue, something happens that causes all the icons on the 2nd monitor to line up on the border between the two screen displays (i.e., almost off the 2nd monitor but not quite completely onto the MBAir's display).
This seems to be related to saving a file onto the desktop -- say, when I'm using Safari on the 2nd monitor and I drag the address bar address to save a webloc file. However, I can do this more often than not with no odd effects. (However, lately I've started dragging into a FOLDER on the desktop to avoid this.) Now, I just watched it happen when all I did was save a tiny .TXT file to the desktop. Of course I can fix things by dragging everything back to where it was (plus, I typically do a Restart before that since I figure something has gone amiss with the system so I'd like to clean things out). But what I'd really like is to figure out is why this is happening in the first place so that I can prevent it ... or, at least, so that I can stop doing whatever special behavior is causing it.

there are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.
I've had my mac for about three years now and everything was working fine. After I installed lion, I notice that this started to happen. I don't lose any of my information though when it does that. It just goes into a sleep mode I guess? Anyways, is this a feature from the lion update? Something standard?
I am a photographer. My Mac Tower and Macbook Pros display my external hard drives on the desktop. That makes workflow so much easier. I just purchased an I-Mac and have to access the external HDs through the menu. how I can display the icons for the external HDs on my desktop?
I have loaded Office for Mac onto my new Macbook Pro, but have got two "Word" icons on my App screen (I have not got two "Powerpoint" or "Excel" icons). How do I remove one without removing both. I have tried dragging one icon to the trash bin but it won't stay there!
Display screen is white and there are no icons, just pointer. Tried to restart. Could the hardware be the issue. Only 6 months old and already had hardware restored once.
Recently I've been having a problem with the way my icons are arranged. It's like the screen its moved a little bit up. There's an image to show you how it looks like when it happens (because it happens sometimes, I dunno what I causes). Also, when my mac enter sleeping mode, the login screen its moved a little bit up too.
I can't get my windows to move around the screen. I've tried everything. I double click, restart (that only works for pc's) and nothing. I can't put two docs side by side or anything!
I'm having some issues with my Macbook Pro that just arose today. Randomly, when I'm on Safari, the screen will flash a little and the icons at the bottom will disappear. They will come back in a couple seconds and pop-ups that I usually only get when I first log on will appear. Safari also refreshes the page I was viewing. I did a little research and thought the issue might be google drive, but I do not have it installed on my Mac.
Whenever I move my macbook on my desk with the lid open, or when I open the lid, or when I close the lid, my screen flickers to black and then back open many times. Is this a weak connection some where? Sometimes the screen will stay black until I move the lid a little bit. I bought it refurbished from Apple this spring. I do not have applecare.
I'm pretty new to OS X, having just got my MBP 15" 2010 model.
I use my laptop with a external monitor for music production, and when I use a particular piece of software, I like to have it on my (bigger) external display. I'm wondering if there's any way (using Automator possibly?) to set the menu bar to switch screens automatically when I open this program?
I have a 2012 Macbook Pro and the GPU is causing issues with Yosemite. There are a number of issues I have run across:If I have four tabs open on Safari then I start to get a flickering on the screen from the GPU refreshing. When I leave the computer alone for more than 20 mins the screen saver should start -- what happens is that the screen goes to black. When I move the cursor I do not get the login screen. I have to rebootFireFox Web browser will not runI get issues with the computer running very slowly..I have already turned off the transparency option in settings.

After installing Lion, I can no longer move program icons from my applications folder to a sub folder. When I do, it makes a copy and leave the original in the applications folder. When I then try to delete the icon in the applications folder it tells me it's required by the OS and won't let me delete. I'm forced to keep certan applications such as Time Machine and Stickies in the application folder.
