I was burning an ISO to a dvd in Disk Utility, and it gave me the message "Verification of the burn failed" So, I tried running the dvd, and I didn't get any error messages. Do you think the disk/iso/whatever is good to use?
View 5 RepliesIt all started last week when I tried burning an ISO to a blank Memorex DVD-R. When I inserted the DVD it would eject the CD over and over again no matter how many times I tried. The same thing would happen if I used a Memorex CD-R. Now these CD's worked in the past without any issues, and seem to work just fine on my other computers.
I decided to go out and buy a different brand of DVD-R's at Office Depot, thinking the laptop just wasn't really into these DVD's anymore. I ended up buying TDK DVD-R's. The computer seemed to like these more because it didn't eject them when I placed them into the drive.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can boot into bootcamp with no problems. I have been wanting to be able to open the bootcamp in Parallels. Here is the issue:
1. The partition 'disk0s3' is greyed out in Disk Utility. It is not mounted. Mounting does nothing.
2. For reference, the Windows 7 is formatted as NTFS. It is a Windows 7 64-bit install
3. Verify disk does the following:
Verifying volume "disk0s3" ** /dev/disk0s3
Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: efbbbf
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.
4. repairing does the following:
Verify and Repair volume "disk0s3" ** /dev/disk0s3
Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: efbbbf
Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can"t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
I have stuff on the Windows partition that I don't want deleted. I'm really stuck on this -obviously, I can just continue to boot into bootcamp, I just would rather open it from Parallels. I'm not sure what or if I made some mistake in setting up Bootcamp, I thought I followed the directions to that. I do know I formatted the partition as NTFS during the install - as I think Windows 7 requires it. I have tried installing NTFS-3G - it is installed, but didn't do any good when trying to mount the drive.
Whenever I try to burn an ISO to CD, it doesn't work, because Disk Utility requires me to insert a "Matshita DVD-R" and I don't have any of those. I only have DVD+R and CD-R. How do I burn it?

Every-time I try to burn that kind of CD through either Toast or Disk Utility I get an error message that says "Unable to burn. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.". I know my SuperDrive is a DVD+R DL it shows it in the system information. Is it mabye the CD i bought? the one I have is Memorex Doublelayer DVD+R DL 8.5gb, 249min, 2.4x
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am desperately trying to burn a ISO file to a USB and external HD but Disk Utility does not want to. Instead I get the error message "Could not validate source - error 254". So there must be a problem with the source which is the ISO file.
I already tried setting the Partition Map Scheme to both Master Boot Record and GUID Partition Table. I also formatted the drive to FAT and HFS+. I cannot find the cause of this error. It clearly looks like Disk Utility does not like burning ISOs to USBs or HDs.
However, I really really need to this since I cannot burn ISOs with my SuperDrive which is also a common problem [URL]with my MacBook Pro.
So I have an ISO file that I need to burn onto a dvd, and i bought some double-layer DVD+R's at the shop... And apparently it doesnt work. I mount the image, and then click on Burn.
A pop-up appears for like 2 seconds saying: Finishing Burn. The CD comes out, blank as ever...
Well i'm trying to burn a disk image onto a DVD-DRL using disk utilities. I get everything all into disk utility and the blank cd is there and the DMG. When i select burn and the burn options comes down, It only allows me to burn to the super drive and not to the blank DVD. I tried going along and just burning it to the SuperDrive and it didn't work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm currently trying to burn a bootable image file using OS X 10.3.9's Disk Utility software. I have an external DVD Burner connected to a G4 Cube via Firewire. The issue is that when I select "burn" from the menu and point to the respective .dmg file, Disk Utility does not recognise the attached DVD burner. The burner is however recognised in Toast (which I also have installed).What might the issue be? I have searched high and low on the net in an attempt to diagnose the issue to no avail. Is there an alternative solution to burning bootable disks in 10.3.9?

Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed". I can burn CDs just fine .. but when it comes to DVD +R +RW +DL I cannot ! I have important files that I need to burn but I can't due to this problem. I'd like to mention that I have tried 2 different DVD brands with the speed of x2 and x4 with no luck!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to burn a .cdr file to a dual layer dvd using Disk Utility. I got it to work once, but I tried four times. I think that it must be very sensitive or something, because I can't figure out any other factor that affects it.
Has anybody else run into this problem, and if so, what's your solution? I think it may have to do with vibrations of the disk drive or something, but I would be lying if I said I knew that for sure...
Disks I put in the Superdrive, external hard drives, or anything in the USB or Firewire (thumbdrive, etc) -- nothing shows up on the desktop. All are visible in Disk Utility. USB thumbdrives and external hard drives are visible in the sidebar in Finder, but disks are not (only disk utility).
Because of this I can't burn a disk because the disk is not being recognized. In Disk Utility, the external hard drives appear mounted and can be opened in Finder, but why aren't they appearing on my desktop (they used to)?

I had windows vista installed but suddenly the audio decided to become faulty, after spending a day trying to fix it i realized I have a windows 7 install disc so i might as well just replace vista with windows 7. I didnt take care of vista or ever register it so it became quite a task to upgrade so i just deleted the partition and went to create a new one and just do a full install of windows 7.
I made the partition but the wrong format, so i removed it through boot camp assistant and created another, except now it keeps giving me the "back up the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using boot camp assistant again" Now, I'd love to do this, except I have no idea what I'm doing and WHY this error has occured. After becoming frustrated I switched from my imac to my macbook pro and received the same error when trying to create a partition. So any help on exactly what I need to do would be a HUGE help. I only use windows for music production (I know, seems backwards, but I use Sony Acid and FL Studio so I'm stuck with Windows)
I am having an issue Partitioning my Internal HDD because some files cannot be moved it was able to Partition a while back when Installed Vista but I deleted that Partition as I needed a bigger one for Windows 7 Beta It says I need to "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume." does that mean I have to reformat my entire HDD? as I don't want to do that.

I'd like to know if it's possible to re-burn the ISO without the version number in the filenames as in the original solution, but with Disk Utility or something else that a Mac can use.

Now I want to partition the disk again to create a tri boot setup where I can either install ubuntu or the dev preview of snow leopard (I haven't decided yet). Can I just do this with disk utility and shrink my OS X partition in order to create a new partition or will this cause problems with the disk? I would really like to not do a fresh install of OS X because I have had to do this twice to fix disk problems relating to bootcamp.

I ordered a second hard drive for my powermac g5.Its a 400 gig seagate drive.I power off my machine,unhooked everything and plugged in the drive.
I boot up and the drive isnt showing in disk utility.Is it something i did?
I have a Mac Mini and on the internal drive I have Snow Leopard installed on the first partition and I'd like to install Snow Leopard Server on the same drive on another partition (I'm new to Mac, this is my only machine and my only drive, and this is only for testing purposes, so don't bother with stupid questions about why etc).
The problem I have is that I can't seem to create the necessary partition in Disk Utility. I have shrinken the Snow Leopard partition to get some free space and I've created a second partition for Server but for some reason I can't choose the options button to select GUID. The button is grayed out, see attached image.
What am I doing wrong? Or is it not possible to have two OS partitions on the same internal drive?
I have a MacBook with 3 partitions. One has Snow Leopard (Macintosh HD), Tiger and Windows 7On Snow Leopard I tried to backup files to my external Hard Drive but some files wouldn't transfer. When I clicked on the folder that was unable to transfer, everything went out of control. All windows started opening themselves and I had to shut down my MacBook by the power button.
View 4 Replies View RelatedLately, my MacBook Pro (mid 2010) started to slow down even with over 60% disk space is empty and max RAM is installed. It gets slow when using hungry programs such as Photoshop CS5.
I used the disk utility first aid and fixed all permissions that were shown with errors. When scanning the disk, I received the message that my disk is corrupt and I need to fix by restarting with command+R keys pressed until the apple symbol is displayed. When the next window shows up, choose disk utility and go from there to fix the disk.
When I performed that, I let go of the Command+R keys after the apple logo came up, the only thing that came up after that was a grey circle with a diagonal line through it and a spinning clock.

I have two USB cardreaders. One is (I think) a USB 1, unbranded. The other is a USB 2 branded Seitec). Our cameras both use Sony Memory Stick Pro Duos). They both of worked with both my wife and my iMacs under 10.5.11. Both machines (hers from 2006, mine an Intel Core 2 Duo from 2007) have been happily upgraded to SL 10.6.1... but now the cardreaders work with her machine, but not with mine. They don't mount on the desktop. I have tried various combinations ... attaching them through keyboard /back of iMac, powered USB hub. Sometimes they are recognised by System Profiler, sometimes not! Disk Utility seems unable to see them at all, so I can't get it to mount them.
However, when I leave the card in my camera and connect it direct to the keyboard (or whatever socket I choose!) the computer recognises the camera immediately I switch it on, and downloads quite happily

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to backup a few .avi files I have onto DVDs and after reading over the forums I have aquired ffmpegx and Toast 8. I place the avi file into ffmpex, encode it with the dvdffmpeg format. But once i burn it with toast, it takes the original wide screen avi file and stretches it to full screen.
I tried re-encoding with the DVD 16:9 setting selected with ffmpeg and it seems to look better in a preview, but when I try and burn the Video_TS folder in Toast it gives me the CSS Encryption disk error, which I do not understand because I'm not copying a copyrighted dvd.
