So I have an ISO file that I need to burn onto a dvd, and i bought some double-layer DVD+R's at the shop... And apparently it doesnt work. I mount the image, and then click on Burn.
A pop-up appears for like 2 seconds saying: Finishing Burn. The CD comes out, blank as ever...
I have been trying to burn a .cdr file to a dual layer dvd using Disk Utility. I got it to work once, but I tried four times. I think that it must be very sensitive or something, because I can't figure out any other factor that affects it.
Has anybody else run into this problem, and if so, what's your solution? I think it may have to do with vibrations of the disk drive or something, but I would be lying if I said I knew that for sure...
I'm currently trying to burn a bootable image file using OS X 10.3.9's Disk Utility software. I have an external DVD Burner connected to a G4 Cube via Firewire. The issue is that when I select "burn" from the menu and point to the respective .dmg file, Disk Utility does not recognise the attached DVD burner. The burner is however recognised in Toast (which I also have installed).What might the issue be? I have searched high and low on the net in an attempt to diagnose the issue to no avail. Is there an alternative solution to burning bootable disks in 10.3.9?

Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed". I can burn CDs just fine .. but when it comes to DVD +R +RW +DL I cannot ! I have important files that I need to burn but I can't due to this problem. I'd like to mention that I have tried 2 different DVD brands with the speed of x2 and x4 with no luck!

Whenever I try to burn an ISO to CD, it doesn't work, because Disk Utility requires me to insert a "Matshita DVD-R" and I don't have any of those. I only have DVD+R and CD-R. How do I burn it?

Every-time I try to burn that kind of CD through either Toast or Disk Utility I get an error message that says "Unable to burn. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.". I know my SuperDrive is a DVD+R DL it shows it in the system information. Is it mabye the CD i bought? the one I have is Memorex Doublelayer DVD+R DL 8.5gb, 249min, 2.4x
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt all started last week when I tried burning an ISO to a blank Memorex DVD-R. When I inserted the DVD it would eject the CD over and over again no matter how many times I tried. The same thing would happen if I used a Memorex CD-R. Now these CD's worked in the past without any issues, and seem to work just fine on my other computers.
I decided to go out and buy a different brand of DVD-R's at Office Depot, thinking the laptop just wasn't really into these DVD's anymore. I ended up buying TDK DVD-R's. The computer seemed to like these more because it didn't eject them when I placed them into the drive.
I am desperately trying to burn a ISO file to a USB and external HD but Disk Utility does not want to. Instead I get the error message "Could not validate source - error 254". So there must be a problem with the source which is the ISO file.
I already tried setting the Partition Map Scheme to both Master Boot Record and GUID Partition Table. I also formatted the drive to FAT and HFS+. I cannot find the cause of this error. It clearly looks like Disk Utility does not like burning ISOs to USBs or HDs.
However, I really really need to this since I cannot burn ISOs with my SuperDrive which is also a common problem [URL]with my MacBook Pro.
I was burning an ISO to a dvd in Disk Utility, and it gave me the message "Verification of the burn failed" So, I tried running the dvd, and I didn't get any error messages. Do you think the disk/iso/whatever is good to use?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWell i'm trying to burn a disk image onto a DVD-DRL using disk utilities. I get everything all into disk utility and the blank cd is there and the DMG. When i select burn and the burn options comes down, It only allows me to burn to the super drive and not to the blank DVD. I tried going along and just burning it to the SuperDrive and it didn't work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDisks I put in the Superdrive, external hard drives, or anything in the USB or Firewire (thumbdrive, etc) -- nothing shows up on the desktop. All are visible in Disk Utility. USB thumbdrives and external hard drives are visible in the sidebar in Finder, but disks are not (only disk utility).
Because of this I can't burn a disk because the disk is not being recognized. In Disk Utility, the external hard drives appear mounted and can be opened in Finder, but why aren't they appearing on my desktop (they used to)?
I am fairly new to the Mac world. The other day I was trying to do a disc copy of a music CD. I followed the instructions within Disk Utility, which resulted in a .dmg (disk image) file being created. However, when I went to burn the resulting file to a blank CD I found that the file was bigger than the capacity of the CD. Obviously, the disk image file itself takes extra space (in addition to the size of the original music files). Is there any other way of creating a 'snapshot' of a CD or DVD? Perhaps 'on the fly', as I do with my PC's?

When I try to restore the 75gb image to a 128gb SSD formatted in OS Extended (Journaled), Disk Utility says that there is not enough space on disk to restore.

Which is weird, since before this situation happens, opening a .dmg file will not automatically open Disk Utility.I have a screen shot below opening the .dmg file for Firefox installer for Mac OS X. I am trying to create a new image from a DVD and burn it to a new DVD using the MAC Disk Utility "New Image" option. The source DVD is 4 G and my target folder is on my external HD which has 298G.. plenty of space. However, whenever I attempt to SAVE the existing DVD to my external HD, I am getting the error message that the file is too large. I have tried the parameter for "Image Format" of both 'Read Only' and 'DVD/CD Master' and neither of them work. My "Encryption" setting is 'None'.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently ran a ‘verify’ scan in Disk Utility as a precaution after Word crashed. An ‘incorrect number of file links’ error message showed up, as well as a prompt to repair this using Disk Utility from the Recovery HD. However, when I do a scan from the Recovery HD version of Disk Utility, no error messages or repair prompts appear.
My questions… Is this something to be concerned about? How can it be fixed? Would it be best to do a clean install of OSX? I only lost a little bit of data so I was pretty lucky.

Will running the 'repair disk' disk utility on an external drive screw up any of the files on my external hard drive? I only want to run it because I can't transfer a file from my HD to the external...it's a 6 gig video file in quicktime format, and I'm getting 'error 1309', which I understand is related to file size on FAT32 format. I know it's a huge file, but I've moved others to the external that are over 20 gigs with no problems (iMovie projects, etc). Anything I can do to get this file moved to the external?

Then I the following message pops out: "Disk Utility stopped verifying "Ryan ManUtd" (note: Ryan Utd is the name of my harddisk)
Then it the window panel, there is a message which says: "Error: Live file System repair is not supported"
What does this mean ? Other than that, I can still access the contents in my harddisk ...

Every time I try to export a movie in iMovie or burn a disk in iDVD an error message pops up and says that my startup disk is full. So I bought an external hard drive and backed up my mac using Time Machine. Now I want to delete everything off my mac's internal Hard Drive and use my external hard drive so I can empty my disk. Does this make sense? If so will you please tell me how to do so.

I tried holding down the option key when turning on the power and then I get an internet recovery along with a globe. I click on the arrow below it and it takes maybe 15 minutes to start up. Then i get this disk utilities screen. I'm now unable to do anything. When going into disk utility, disk 0 shows with Mac OS X base system underneath it. All the clickable buttons are faded out. Is there something wrong with the hardrive? and where could i get this fixed? There isn't a warranty on it.

Today I turned my Mac on, and it started up with a loading wheel and a loading bar. When the loading bar finished, the Mac turned itself off. I tried many times, same happened every time. I then went into OSX Recovery, started repairing Macintosh HD, but the error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair Macintosh HD" came up and now I don't now what to do.
Is there any way I can back up my files in this situation? Is there any way I can repair the disk without having to erase all data and reinstalling OSX? Or do I really need to bring it to a Apple Store for repair?

I have a Seagate 1 TB Backup Plus Drive which was working perfectly fine until I plugged it into a USB hub. It detected it while in the hub and I was able to get files off of it, but when I ejected it from the hub and put it back into the USB slot on the computer it was not detected by finder. It shows up in the disk utility and I clicked verify and repair and it says:
Verify and Repair volume “Seagate Backup Plus Drive”
Checking file system
Volume repair complete.
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
Is there any way to get this to work properly again? Or if not is there a way for me to recover my files on the external hard drive?
I have a Macbook PRO late 2011 running OS X Mavericks.
Fortunately I got a time machine backup. And its restoring the drive while in Lion recovery mode. Here's what happened... I dont have a router a my place at the moment and so my two phones (iphone 4 and htc android) connect to my internet using my MBP's wifi via internet sharig. For some reason they were not able to get an IP from the mbp. After doing some wifi swtich toggles and forgettig & rejoining the network, i decided to reboot all my devices. I shut down my modem, phones and restarted my mbp. On reboot, after the chime, it showed an unsusal 'progress bar' under the apple logo. The bar progressed to about 10% and then the mbp just powered off. This happened several times even after PRAM and SMC reset.
So now i booted with cmd+r pressed and in recovery mode ran a 'verify disk'. It said the verification stopped and that i should repair the disk. When i tried to do that it said the disk cannot be repaird and that i should back up as many files as possible and attempt to format the disk and restore it with time machine. It is precisely what im doing at the moment.
1. Mbp wont sleep even when internet sharing is off
2. Mbp wont lit the onboard display upon opening it in clamshell mode until i removed the 3.5mm audio cable of my speakers from the audio out port!

My Macbook crashed so I tried everything to restart it. what finally worked is opening it from the install disk. I performed a "repair disk", and after saying "invalid node structure" and "invalid record count", it says it cannot repair the disk. I don't know what step to take next. How do I see if time machine has backed my files up? Do I need to erase the HD and reinstall?
