MacBook :: Unable To Open Programs - Programs Are Not Displaying

Mar 25, 2010

I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.

Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Turn Off/turn On A Bluetooth?

Apr 14, 2009

I have a problem with my 17'' MBP unibody:

1) Bluetooth is ON:

I can't turn it off. The checkbox is inactive.

But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)

2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:

But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.

It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.

Back to 1)

What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?

This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.

I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Does Not Show, Only The Tool Bar At The Top

Jun 4, 2012

When I switch between applications such as Safari, iTunes and iPhoto, the screen doesn't show - only the grey tool bar at the top.  I think have to click on the appropriate application in the dock for the screen to reveal itself.

What setting do I need to change to be able to see the screen immediately when I switch to the application?

btw, I generally use the cmd/Tab command to switch between applications.

MacBook Pro :: Getting An App To Make Tool Bars Bigger?

Apr 20, 2012

All the tool bars are ways too small.  It's painful to read.  I know there're ways to work around this problem such as decreasing the screen resolution, or use the Zoom feature.  These are only workaround solutions because decreasing screen resolution makes pictures look less sharp, and the Zoom feature is not that fun to have all the times on your screen.  It looks like Apple should come up with a permanent fix, as it is clearly not acceptable fix.  Hopefully some Genius will come up with an App that offers a better resolution.

OS X Mavericks :: Using Speech To Text Tool On MacBook Pro

Jun 26, 2014

I have a MacBook Pro.

I’m trying to use OS X Mavericks to dictate a note to my laptop. I clicked System Preferences from the Apple icon, then Accessibility button and then Speakable Items.  After that I clicked Settings, but I don’t know how to TURN ON Speakable Items, which I see selected.  I went on to press Listening Key on the Feedback window and said, “Hello, what’s happening?” I didn’t see it as typed text anywhere, as I expected to. I also selected “Open Speech Commands.” Again nothing happened!

MacBook Pro :: Dock Bar Flickering (as If Tool Bar From The Top Is Pushing Into It)

My Macbook pro with Rerina display is doing a very odd thing. The bottom dock bar is flickering every few seconds. It is like the top tool bar is actually pushing up from the bottom. I've attached a screenshot...if you look at the very bottom, you can see the blip of the top menu bar that is happening every few seconds.

I've tried restarting in safe mode, but the same problem kept happening.

MacBook Pro :: Feature Tool Makes My Hitachi HDD Quiet As Dead

Nov 28, 2010

recently I upgraded the HDD of my macbook pro 13"(2009) to a Hitachi 7200RPM 500GB(7K500), it generates clicking noise and the Load_Cycle_Count attribute increases too fast, which has a 600000 limit. I searched on the forum, and saw many people have the same problem, someone suggests LCC is not spin-up/spin-down but Start_Stop_Count is, which is NOT true for laptop, it is only true for desktop with Windows which do not care about power saving so the HDD seldom parks its head.

Today I went to my friends house who has a desktop PC which support SATA HDD, so I plugged my 2.5" HDD in straight away, and booted from Hitachi's Feature Tool(you can google it and find the address), then I was able to adjust the APM level. Here are two photos:

I made it 192, which is the lowest value within Active idle range as I usually use my MBP as a desktop replacement, so battery is not an issue.

Hope this can help people with Hitachi HDD who are annoyed by the clicking noise and worried about the shortened life of HDD.

MacBook Air :: Ethernet Adaptor Options - Diagnostic Tool Crashed

May 8, 2008

Just picked up the adaptor today and thought it was pretty much a no brainer: plug it in, it works. Not in this case, it keeps getting a self assigned IP address and I can't connect to the internet-although there is a green light next to the ethernet adaptor in System preferences. I have an Airport network set up as a normal scenario. I bought this adaptor only because I am about to take a trip and the hotel only has ethernet in the rooms. I've tried using the diagnostic tool, but it keeps hanging and crashing.

MacBook Pro :: Apple Hardware Tool - Missing Original Disk

Jun 20, 2012

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" with extra-dense pixels, but have lost my original disks. Is there any way to get hold of the AHT for this model? It original shipped with Snow Leopard but I have upgraded it to Lion. Since this is a hardware test I am running though, I assume that the AHT is tied to my hardware model rather than the Mac OS.I did try restarting and holding down 'D' both with no internet connection and with an internet connection - just in case - but got no joy.

MacBook :: Yellow Tint On Complete Screen / Worth Using Calibration Tool?

Apr 19, 2010

Both the Macbook and HP monitor are set to display Adobe RGB, the HP displays really crisp whites, and the MacBook is yellow in comparison. I'm wondering if all Macbooks display colours this way, or is mine faulty? I tend to work on the larger screen, but it'd be good to have the option to use the small one also.

I've considered buying a calibration tool (an overdue purchase) and/or taking it to the Mac store, it'd be a great help if anyone knows if it's a problem that can be fixed at all.

PowerPC :: Unable To Turn Off/turn On IBook G4?

Jan 4, 2009

Had (used) iBook G4 several months now & thoroughly enjoy it, even tho' I live in the sticks where there's no hi-speed/wireless available; I connect to internet & power, which is fine.

This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).

Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.

Applications :: What's Best RAR Tool For Mac OSX

Feb 23, 2009

I am looking for a RAR archiver (don't ask why... because I used it a lot on my Windows machine) in order to create split RAR-archives. But there is no good RAR programme for the Macs! Yesterday I found RARMe and it has been working very well... Today it doesn't want to create archives anymore. I switched to Rarify, which is a very simple programme but it does what it has to do. The problem is that it is too simple and I still need some options... Could you tell me how YOU solve this problem of not having a good RAR-tool on OSX? Which programme is the best?
