Whenever - or at least 90% of the time - I try to shutdown my MacBook Pro, I get the message "Application Mail canceled shutdown" and so it is, my Laptop won't shut down. Whats wrong with that? (I searched the forum and found this thread http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/swi...down-imac.html , but it actually only explains how to shut OSX down but not how to avoid the problem) I read on the net that several people had this problem with a prog called "uTorrent", and the solution found on the net was to update your OSX to 10.5.x or later. I'm on 10.0.3 so?

1. Go to Apple icon in menu bar
2. Choose Shut Down or Restart (ticking the Reopen windows when logging back - this is actually the point, so manually force quitting every time cannot be the solution) - some of the applications will start closing and sooner or later I get the following error message: "You haven't been logged out because the application Mail failed to quit. To try logging out again, quit Mail and choose Apple menu > Log Out. To suit an unresponsive application, choose Apple menu > Force Quit (or press Command-Option-Esc.)" Currently I used the workaround to Force Quit Mail and then it works, even if I restart Mail before restarting or shutting down.

I recently found that the cause for my macbook pro hanging on shut down was due to Kaspersky running in the background. Because quiting it before shutting down every time is annoying is there a way to automate the quitting of an application when I request my computer to shut down?

When trying to logout, I keep getting "the application safari canceled logout" even though I am not in Safari. This only recently started happening and I'm wondering if it is a setting issue or bug. Can someone tell me what to do?

I am running Mac OSX 10.7.3 and I recently been having issues shutting down my computer with mail running. Sometimes it takes 2-3 mins for it to shut mail down and other times it says it couldn't shut down because of the mail app. Is there anything I can do short of reinstalling Lion?

now I lost 5 gb's of space...
because the process never completely finished, a drive does not show up on my desktop...
I've tried everything I know... does anyone know how I can regain my lost hd space?
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS Lion (10.7.3) and in the last two weeks I face the following problem with the Mail application and my Yahoo mail account: although the account appears in the side bar of the application and it will search for new messages when I launch the Mail app, it doesn't load any messages and I also realised that all Mailboxes of the named account are blank! The messages appear normally when I reach my account through the Yahoo page! I tried to remove and re-import the account in the Mail app, but it just worked for two days and now the Mailboxes are blank again! I have no problems with the other two mail accounts I reach through the same application (both POP accounts).

Say you were downloading a file in Safari and the download process gets canceled, does the file discard itself or takes up space on your hard drive?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my MBA 11.6" with 64gb storage. I loaded up my Gmail account into the Mail app and it started downloading thousands of old emails. Is that taking up any considerable amount of space? I mean the text files probably aint so big but all the attachments etc.

I recently migrated from a old MBP to a new one and only after that have started noticing this issue.
I was already using Lion on my old MBP and continue to do the same on the new machine. I am on Mail Version 5.2 (1257) and OS - Mac OS X Version 10.7.3

I was using Boot Camp Assistant to partition my MacBook to install XP. While partitioning my MacBook completely froze and wouldn't unfreeze, I waited about 30 minutes to see if it fix itself, so I held down the power to force a restart, upon rebooting I opened Boot Camp Assistant to try again and I noticed I lost 50 gigabytes of space. Is there a way to fix this and regain my lost hard drive space?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning, I was in mail (I think I was in the midst of a draft which I did not care to save) and realized that I was late so I tried closing Mail using command q. Well, I get the desktop but I can't logout. When I hit the mail icon, it won't even open up my mail to do file, close. So I'm in limbo because I'm not able to shut down.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new macbook pro a little over a month ago and have since upgraded to Snow Leopard (fresh install). One day about a week ago, out of no where, the mail application seemed to launch itself whenever I opened my laptop (resume from hibernate?). It is asking me for my name and email address to start setting it up. From there, I press cancel and the window disappears but the icon stays on the dock like its open and when I go to the Force Quit window it shows Mail as not responding and I have to force quit it. This doesnt happen every time but happens pretty often for seemingly no reason.
