I'm finding my MBA rev b to be quite slow opening apps, I bought the 1.6 ghz 120gb model.
It seems like everything's rather slow to open. I have 30gb free on the hard drive, iTunes, Safari (5 tabs) TextWrangler and mail open all day.
If I ever need to go into Firefox it takes a fair while to get up and running. I ran some xbench scores and it seems very slow on the random reads, oddly it was much quicker writing to the disk than reading.
Is their anyone in the know who can confirm that this is normal? Or if not, is there anything I can do to give it a boost?

I am getting a little frustrated. Everytime I start my computer Word, Excel and other programs open. I have tried the following which hasn't helped.
1. I went into system preferences into User/Groups, logins and deleted all items.
2. Hovered over the word in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen, clicked options, unchecked open at login. (I have been closing down the application before loging off)
Other than that I am not sure how to stop these from opening.

It seems that my MB(unibody 2.0Ghz) has some problem. I recently reinstalled leopard (and some softwares). It takes a little bit more than 2 minutes to boot. Worse comes with Windows 7 beta. I tried both 32bit and 64bit versions. It takes more than 5 minutes to boot! I saw some guy showing some comparison of boot time on youtube. It seems that Leopard should take < 1 minute and Windows 7 takes < 2 minutes (with the same hardware!). My MB takes around 3 times more than other MBs. Where should I start? I recently ran memtest and it turns out to be okay. HDD S.M.A.R.T also reports 'verified'. I'm not sure what would be the next.

2 days ago my computer stopped being usable. It is the slowest thing ever now. Spinning wheel all day long. Takes 8 or 9 minutes to restart... Crazy lag time even opening a finder window. NEVER ran slow before. No new software installed...

Up graded to Lion last week. Everything fine until today. Opening apps takes 30 to 45 secs. Clicking anything on menu bar takes the same time. Everything is so slow I can't hardly use the machine. This happened to me about 10 days ago when I was running 10.6.8 which is why I formatted a new boot disc & installed Lion. Now it's happening again after a week of using Lion. Can I supply any logs to help an expert diagnose my problem & if so which ones? Meanwhile I will try safe boot & another account & report back.

I have a 2 week old iMac 27", i7, 2tb Hard Drive, 16gb RM
In the second week the boot up times became very slow.
I would turn the machine on and get the chime within 5 seconds or so.
Then just a black/blank screen.
Eventually after about 10mins I would get a white screen then it would boot up normally.
Now the machine just doesn't get to the white screen. So I get the chime and then just darkness. It does sound like the machine is on (usual quiet imac whirring).
I've tried various key commands when I turn the machine on including pressing C with the install disk in the dvd drive and the alt, control, P, R pram reset.
I've also tried unplugging all the cables, leaving the machine for a minute and switching back on. I did manage to perform the PRAM reset once. I reset the machine and it booted fine.
But now when I switch it on just darkness.
I've called after sales and will try to get the machine replaced but in the meantime is there anything I could try that might make the machine work? I need to do a remix this weekend (deadline Monday) so really need to get it working.

During startup, my Macbook Air 2011 sits at the grey screen with Apple logo and spinning gear for at least an hour before prompting me to log in.In the last few weeks, the time it took to get past the grey screen increase to roughly 10 min, but in the last couple of days its grown even longer. My Macbook Air has also often failed to resume from sleep and required a reboot.

I'm just not having luck with my last 3 MacBook Pros. My new 2.8ghz 15" now takes over 7 minutes to boot to the login screen. Before this happened, I recently copied 139 GB in sound libraries to my system drive. Before I went to work, I quickly closed the laptop and put in my bag. When I took it out of my bag several hours later, the unit was off and battery practically at full charge. When I started it shortly afterwards, it took forever to boot. It would sit there at the grey screen with the spinning circle, then get to the blue background (just before you get to the login screen) and wait there for a while. Most of the time I think you can hear the hard drive churning.
Once you log on, everything seems to be normal. I'm curious if perhaps that 139GB copy did something to the OS to slow it down. FYI it has 274/ 500 GB of free space left. Perhaps the hard drive didn't have a chance to park when I quickly put the laptop in my bag and I damaged it? To complicate matters, I have the MCE optibay installed with a 320 GB hard drive loaded in it. The only thing I can think of is to back up, and reload the OS. This should tell me if it's software or hardware related.

It takes a full minute to boot up my Macbook Pro 15.4".
I only have 2GB of RAM, but the CPU is a C2D @ 2.4Ghz. Should it take this long?

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (as you can probably guess!), with a 512Gb SSD and 8Gb Ram. Its a pretty fast machine and i'm really happy with the way it runs, however when I open a folder to view files, it opens and shows a blank folder and then I get the black pinwheel in the bottom left/right hand side and I have to wait for sometimes over 30 seconds before the files in that folder are shown!?
One thing to point out is that it doesn't always happen and its not restricted to particular folders. I can open a folder and it will show the files straight away, however I can re-open that folder and it will take up to 30 seconds to show the files...
I've tried rebooting and running nothing, but it still happens. And I have also tried the normal disk utilities to check permissions, etc and I think these are fine too..

just purchased right before he left (Febuary). His computer is now giving him troubles with programs taking ages to load. He said that one program took about 3 hours to load completely. What/any advice can I give him to resolve this issue? He has the warrenty package but since I'm in Alaska, shipping costs are expensive and we'd like to avoid them as much as possible.

Ive had my macbook pro since August and I have had problems with it in the past. This time however (this has been happening for almost a week) my computer has been very slow and unresponsive. Programs quit due to "errors" and i have to force quit everything. Safari doesnt work either. I have already backed up any files i need and would just like to try and fix this without ANOTHER trip to the apple store.

I noticed that when I restarted my MacBook today, the Apple logo takes a while (20-30 seconds) to just show up before the spinning gear shows up.
Things I've tried
1. Repair disk permissions
2. Verify disk
3. Reset PRAM
4. Boot into Safe Mode
5. Make sure Mac OS X 10.6.5 is the startup disk

It takes really longer time to boot up. Eventually it gets boot, but i am unable to access Mail app. Sometimes the booting is faster. In this case, i can use the Mail app. I tried to shut down, restart many times, but the boot up takes longer time or even lesser.

Over the past month or so I've noticed my Macbook has slowed down greatly. I am using a blackbook, 2.2 GHZ, 4GB ram, santa rosa. Many of my programs are failing to close completely causing me to force quit. I'm having several troubles with iWeb(uploading). I've tried to repair permissions several times, and executed batch tasks with Main menu and still it's buggy, freezing, and slow. I have about 30GB of HD space left, don't know if that could be an issue.
