MacBook Pro :: Using System As A Wireless Router / Unable To Detect Network

Dec 31, 2010

I just purchased my new macbook pro and I wanted to know if it was possible to use the laptop as a router so that my PS3 could connect through it. I followed the steps someone else mentioned:

(1) Open System Preferences on your MacBook Pro, and open "Sharing"

(2) On the left column, click Internet Sharing and check the box

(3) Use the drop-down menu to select Ethernet in "Share your connection from..."

(4) Check the box next to Airport in the section "To computers using..."

(5) Close System Preferences and open the Airport menu from your Toolbar (top)

(6) Click "Create Network", add a name to your Computer-to-Computer network

(7) Leave the Channel as Automatic, add a password if you require (make sure your PS3 is compatible with your chosen level of security), click Ok.

(8) Connect an ethernet cable between your broadband modem and MacBook Pro

(9) Turn on your PS3 and perform your usual setup when connecting to a wireless network

I have an Ipod, and it did detect the new connection that was setup; however, my PS3 and my Windows Mobile phone did not detect it. Is there a reason for this? Do only Apple devices identify this connection?

MacBook Pro :: MBP Wouldn't Detect The Drive?

Jan 3, 2011

I have a macbook pro (penryn) that just stopped working. I believe the hard drive just died on me because whenever I try to boot up, I just hear this clicking sound. I think I may have a bootable backup I made with SuperDuper! a while back on my external hard drive. I tried connecting it to my MBP but it wouldn't detect the drive. I only get the mouse cursor when I hold down the option key at boot.

Does anyone know if this may be a known defect? Do you think Apple will replace the hard drive for me?

MacBook Pro :: Doesn't Detect USB Flash Drive

Jan 14, 2009

I have a Macbook pro (OSX 10.4.11) and all of a sudden it stopped detecting a fairly new Jump/Flash drive that up until now worked fine. The icon doesn't show up on the desktop or in the Macintosh HD window.

The flash drive has "Dane-Elec" printed on it and is 4GB. I've tried it a number of times and nothing. The drive does still work on other computers, and my usb port is working properly with other devices.

The flash drive doesn't seem to show up in System Profiler and my Disk Utility has been "gathering information" for about 5 minutes now." Everything else is working fine with the notebook.

MacBook Pro :: Can't Detect Second Hard Drive - Esata And Sata

Nov 6, 2009

I recently bought an SSD vertex 64gb for only 200$ cad. Unfortunately, I do not have enough space to install the Soundtrack Pro components on this drive. I recently bought too an eSata powered cable and a express card esata who came with it. The hard drive can't be detect on my macbook pro unibody late 2008 2,4" but runs. I install the silicon image drivers non-SL and adding over that the SL drivers.

[URL] In that case, I want to know how to uninstall those drivers from silicon image 3132? I thought about another thing if it really not work eventually. The dvd-drive bay could be remplaced by an enclosure 2.5" for my factory 250gb 5400rpm.

[URL]

Second question, Does this other hard drive will take a lot more power?

MacBook Pro :: Disk Utility Does Not Detect Hard Drive

Aug 2, 2010

Just installed a new HDD into a macbook pro that was dropped. Seems fine, loads the disk and then says it can install the OS, i load up disk utility and theres no hard drive int he list just the optical drive and the DVD, its not the disk that came with the mac itself its either my proper retail one or the one that came with my personal older macbook which might be the issue. Ive taken apart and reconnected the HDD and all seems fine internally. Are there any issues that cause this except not using a full retail disk which im going to try later on, just wanted to rule everything else out.

MacBook Pro :: WD Elements External Hard Drive Won't Detect On It

Jun 27, 2014

transfer my files from my WD external drive to my MBP but to no avail. I installed them both and after that, my WD Elements wont show anymore. It was working before prior to installing MacFuse & NTFS-3G. So I tried to remove them both but still the same problem. It wont detect my WD external drive anymore. The light on my WD drive is lighted up as usual but can't be found on Finder. I also tried to remove the WD external drive from my MBP and it recognises that my WD is there! Its says did not unmount correctly, something like that. I also tried to isolate the problem using another computer, this time, Windows and it works well.

The Culprit of all this is when I install MacFue & NTFS-3G

MacBook :: Cannot Detect External Hard Disk Drive In Finder

Jun 12, 2012

MacBook Pro :: OS X Lion Internet Recovery - Does Not Detect Hard Drive

Jun 24, 2014

I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.2 and it recently stopped booting. Got the gray screen with the folder that has the question mark on it. I have attempted to use Command + R to do a Internet Recovery of the system, but once I get to the Mac OS X Lion screen to select where i want to install OSX, there are no hard drives listed.

So I figure, the hard drive (Hitachi 500GB that came with the Mac) is damaged or not functioning correctly. This doesn't seem to be the case because I can hook it up to a notebook SATA hard drive enclosure, connect it to my other MBP and read all the contents of the drive! This was good news, as i was able to copy off all important data, etc.

Using Disc utility, the partitions check out, and the drive appears to be functioning OK.

Verify and Repair volume “Macintosh HD”

Checking file systemChecking Journaled HFS Plus volume.

Checking extents overflow file.

Checking catalog file.

Checking multi-linked files.

Checking catalog hierarchy.

Checking extended attributes file.

Checking volume bitmap.

Checking volume information.

The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.

Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.

I have purchased a replacement hard drive and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail.

My question now is this:

Am I able to do some kind of time machine backup, make an image, or do some kind of target drive restore from this hard drive since it is accessible on my other computer?

I don't mind reloading the operating system on the original MBP, but would really like to avoid the process of setting up all the applications, settings, etc if this drive is in fact functional.

Hardware :: System Does Not Detect The Monitor In Display Preferences

Aug 23, 2009

I've read on the apple support site that some people with older mac mini's and MacBook Pro's can hook it up no problem. But for me, my monitor is getting no signal and my MacBook Pro doesn't detect the monitor in the Display Preferences.

OS X :: MacBook Won't Detect Internal Hdd?

May 30, 2009

I was surfing the web, and suddenly the wheel started spinning and my MacBook locked up. I tried rebooting, only to see a folder with a question mark on it. So I tried to boot from the DVD and use Disk Utility to repair my HDD. But Disk Utility didnt detect my hdd. So I assumed that the drive was dead and bought another one and istalled it.
The new hdd was not recongized by my machine either. Then I took the old hdd and installed it in a external case which connects to the computer with USB and I managed to boot OS X from it.

Anyone knows how I can make my MacBook detect my internal SATA drive?

Since my MBPro can't even detect my Sony LCD TV (my white macbook does) i suspect it's a firmware/hardware issue.I want to buy a thunderbolt display, but am not sure if i can spend all this money when even this simple VGA connection won't work.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Detect External Display

Apr 24, 2012

I have a 2011 MBP (thunderbolt) that I've had for about a year now. I use it daily at work, with an external LCD monitor connected with a mini-dvi -> DVI, no problem, except for the occasional need to restart when first connected.

However, at home I have an AOC Razor 24" monitor that until recently was connected to my home PC via HDMI, working just fine. However, my PC died and now I would very much like to be able to use this monitor at home until such a time when I get around to finding a desktop replacement. My MacBook Pro, however, has completely different ideas it seems... It completely refuses to recognise the monitor. I don't get the blue "flash" and it doesn't show up int eh display panel at all, not "sleeping" or otherwise, it simply looks as if it's not there.

Having trawled the forums, I've done the Jan/Feb firmware update, I've tried two different HDMI converters (One the Moshi from my local Apple retailer, the other a no-name brand converter, which works fine elsewhere), I've even tried a mini-dvi -> DVI -> HDMI converter (I know, I didn't expect it to work, but when you're at then end of your wits, you're at the end of your wits ). I've gone through three HDMI cables and tried an assortment of "black magic" solutions found on the net, with the adapter half-way plugged in, resetting the PROM, closing/opening the lid, running gfxCardStatus ( just in case it did something ) and checking the monitor elsewhere.

The only thing I haven't done (that I can think of) is swap the actual MBP,however, as mentioned, I use an external DVI monitor every day, so it doesn't seem likely that that's where the problem is... I'm guessing it's got to do with how the monitor handles HDMI or some such thing but I don't seem to be able to find much of a comment from anyone else on the net, so here I am... I considered sacrificing a goat at full moon, but I'm not entirely convinced that'll do much either and I upgraded to Lion as I saw a throwaway comment somewhere from someone, indicating that that might or might not have helped them with a slightly similar problem... So this problem now spans 10.6 AND 10.7...

MacBook Pro :: Put Old Hard Drive In New System?

Dec 25, 2009

I tried searching for info about this, but didn't come up with anything. My company just purchased me a new macbook pro, the 2.26 stock model. I recently bought a 500GB 7200rpm drive, so when the new machine arrived I just swapped out the stock drive with my 500GB. The 500GB has a relatively fresh install of Snow Leopard. Everything is running pretty well, although I feel like I'm seeing a little more sluggishness in some apps (Aperture, for one) than I expected. It's pretty impressive that an OSX boot disk can boot any mac, but I wonder if there's anything I ought to dopreference files I should delete, for exampleto make sure that the OS and the new mac are in sync.

I've went to "detect displays" under system preferences, played around with the cable, and made sure the monitor is on. It work's flawlessly on my sisters. What's wrong? Any suggestion on what I should do? I'm losing my mind right now. The screen on the MBP goes blue for a sec when the external display is connected, but then just goes back to it's original desktop.
