Uhh hard to fit the title, but in System Profiler - Sata device tree, normally you see <hard drive name> and underneath it <partition 1 (IE Macintosh HD)>, however since installing my SSD, everything shows <SSD NAME> and then the SSD partition but also shows hard drive partitions there?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a 500GB WD external hard drive to store a lot of data. It's been working fine, plugged into a USB hub. Suddenly, today, the drive stopped appearing when I plugged it in. I've tried plugging it in directly to the computer, it doesn't help. In system profiler, the USB port shows up as : Vendor Specific Device. The ID is confirmed as being from Initio, so I was rather dismayed. Upon trying the drive with another computer, same thing. The drive just shows up as an Initio device, not my external drive. I've rebooted and changed cables many times.

I've googled and search here, and I just can't find the answer to this.
I renamed one of my computers at home. Now both instances of it show up in the Shared section of the finder sidebar and I can't remove the old one. When I do a Get Info, it shows as a PC Server, but I can't actually access anything on it. Is there any way to keep this from showing up?
In Mac OSX Finder in the Shared Section, I'd like to change one of the computer Icons.
Example:
As you can see, I'd like to change the PC's BSOD Icon to something like this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe available HD space shown at the bottom of the finder window shows 650 gb and the "get Info" window for the HD shows the same. If i look at the HD in "Disk Utility" or in "System Report" from "About this Mac", it shows 490 gb, which is what it should be by my calculations. I have installed a new SSHD a few weeks ago but it showed the correct available HD space in all locations at that time. Just the other day i noticed the higher available number at the bottom of the finder window, Have performed a "disk repair" and "permissions repair" with no effect. Running OS 10.9 mavericks on a macbook late 08. 8GB ram and 750 gb SSHD.

When I open a new folder and the same again, it shows 2 different folders in 2 different windows. Id like to see only 1 folder, previous folder would be replaced with the new folder. Im awared that there is an option to choose either you want the folder to be replaced or to show all folders in a new window. That setting isn't working for me for some reason. Anyone here with similar problem? What's the solution?

My finder windows seem to show that I'm "sharing" with other computers. I have file sharing turned off in System Preferences. On the left side of the finder window it shows "Favorites" and under that "Shared" pops up with what I assume are other computers nearby. These are not names of other computers in my house. These computer names pop up and come and go. They are the same two names. Underneath the "shared" names, my external drives show up under "Devices". My cable modem is connected to an Apple Airport Extreme router. Any ideas on why this "sharing" is showing up?Is my data secure?

My MacBook Pro 13", running on latest update, is showing a completely blue, plain blue, desktop background. It changed all by itself. When I tried to reset it by right clicking on the image I want on my desktop and selecting "Set Desktop Picture" nothing changes. When I go into my settings and try to change it that way, the image I want as my background shows as already being my background, yet my desktop is still blue. Tried rebooting already.

I had recently attempted to uninstall Native Instruments FM8, and in an effort to do so, ran searches through my system Library folder and my user Library folder to find anything related to the software and remove them. Found around 100 preset sound files related to FM8, sent them to the trash and emptied the trash (not securely). Then after removing every file as listed on NI's website, restarting my computer, and running another Finder search in my Library folder, the sound files I had deleted earlier appear in the Finder search! However, right-clicking the files and selecting Get Info shows no directory for the file, and the files are unable to be deleted or have permissions modified.
I have already used the Disk Utility to repair disk permissions, but these phantom files still remain in my Finder search !

I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I close a finder window, the finder menu disappears and then reappears along with the finder window. It looks like finder is crashing and restarting. This started happening after I downloaded a pdf and put it in a folder. Maybe there is a bug in the way finder is rendering the image of the pdf file at the top of the finder window?
How can I restore normal behavior of finder?

Every couple of days my computer (13 inch macbook pro) will disconnect from the Internet giving me a pop up saying 'another device on the network is using your computers IP address' it later says to change my IP address but I don't have one because I have an airport express router. What can I do about this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedTwo days ago, I installed AppleTV at my house. Not sure if this is the culprit, but my issues started after it was installed. My MBP will works fine on my home network, then randomly loses the Internet connection. Today, I was able to catch an error message that stated another device was using my computers IP address. So, I checked the ATV, and it was not. Then, I checked my iPhone...and it was! I reset my modem, reconnected my MBP...everything was fine. I then turned on the screen to my iPhone. It happened again. I noticed the iPhone was using the same IP address as my MBP. This time, I reset the modem, and made sure my iPhone was using WiFi when I did this. Now I'm up and running. All devices are set using DHCP. Would it be better to assign Static IP addresses? I've never done this, and don't want to screw anything up.
At my house, I have a lot of wireless devices:
3 laptops
3 iPhones
1 AppleTV
1 iTouch 4G
Plugged into the modem is my desktop computer and an AT&T Microcell. Would the addition of 1 more device (AppleTV) to my network start causing these problems?
I need some help bluetoothing music from my macbook to my blackberry, I've tried to do it several ways, and it either says on my macbook that "the device does not have the necessary services" or on both that the file transfer has failed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook 2007 with a disc drive issue. I can put a cd or dvd in the drive, and it accepts it and spins it, but nothing is coming up on the desktop. And i cannot eject the disc either with the eject button or the manual ways i've read about (holding down the trackpad button during startup, the credit card method, etc.) I've restarted several time and I've attempted reseeting the power management. no change.
I should also state that this is a drive that i have recently installed. the old one was bunk, and I have replaced it with another used one. However, it was working properly when I installed it. I have since having this current issue, gone back in a made sure everything is connected properly. Under the system profile it shows under ATA that no ATA device is present, and a similar message is showing under disc burning.

I'm considering either the MiFi or a 3G USB dongle. Both have their pros and cons of course, but the USB dongle is appealing because it's one less device to charge.
