Every couple of days my computer (13 inch macbook pro) will disconnect from the Internet giving me a pop up saying 'another device on the network is using your computers IP address' it later says to change my IP address but I don't have one because I have an airport express router. What can I do about this?

Two days ago, I installed AppleTV at my house. Not sure if this is the culprit, but my issues started after it was installed. My MBP will works fine on my home network, then randomly loses the Internet connection. Today, I was able to catch an error message that stated another device was using my computers IP address. So, I checked the ATV, and it was not. Then, I checked my iPhone...and it was! I reset my modem, reconnected my MBP...everything was fine. I then turned on the screen to my iPhone. It happened again. I noticed the iPhone was using the same IP address as my MBP. This time, I reset the modem, and made sure my iPhone was using WiFi when I did this. Now I'm up and running. All devices are set using DHCP. Would it be better to assign Static IP addresses? I've never done this, and don't want to screw anything up.
At my house, I have a lot of wireless devices:
3 laptops
3 iPhones
1 AppleTV
1 iTouch 4G
Plugged into the modem is my desktop computer and an AT&T Microcell. Would the addition of 1 more device (AppleTV) to my network start causing these problems?
What do I do if I receive a warning that another device is using my ip address on the macbook air?

When I got back in town today and tried connecting to the internet, it told me that another device on the network is using your computer's IP address. View 2 Replies View Relateda macbook air and an iMac have both give the error "Another device on the network is using your IP address". They are both using the latest OSX and are both set to use DHCP assigned by my Virgin cable router.the address reported in the popup window is NOT the address that either computer was assigned at the time (the first time, I thought it was odd, and I had an iPad handy and used fing to search my network to see what device had just used that address and I didn't see anything). This time - I was on my iMac and happen to have a terminal open, so I did a quick if config - and my ip address was not the one indicated in the message (it was saying 192.168.0.8) and my address was 192.168.0.12. In fact I think that the other day it was complaining about the same .0.8 address.
I do have 2 devices that have a hard coded ip-address (but they are right at the beginning of the range, and in fact I have instructed the router to skip those addresses and just dish out ip's from .0.3 onwards). All other devices use DHCP.Â

The following error comes up on the server's screen when I turn on the stations:"IP 10.37.102.21 is used by 00:0d:95:34:ee:60"Another device in my room or building is using the server's static IP address, this causes connectivity problems. I loose connection to the server. How do I find out what device is causing the problem and what do I do to resolve the issue? I am afraid it might be the CISCO 290XL switches used in the lab. I used ARD to check the Ethernet ID's and didn't come up with any workstation using that Ethernet ID or address.
Using a G4 IBOOK with OS 10.5.8. Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.

For example the domain name is example.com and I have a user set up called john. Sending mail to john@server.example.com works.
But sending mail to john@example.com (which is what I want) returns an error:
554 554 5.7.1 <john@example.com>: Relay access denied (state 13).
For internal DNS, I have:
example.com - primary zonemail.expample.com - alias server.example.comserver.example.com - 192.168.1.2 [URL] - alias server.example.com MX record [URL]
I see references here to problems in mail on 7.3 but not this specific problem.

Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.Â
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?Â
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.Â

This is probably a stupid question, but why isn't there an address contact button that you can click on in a new message from MAIL? Am I missing something here? In all previous versions of the OS one could just do that and a list of contacts popped up and then you could click on one and it would go to the "To" slot. There's got to be an easier way than to open the contact book, find an address, copy it, then place it in the message "To" slot.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook 2007 with a disc drive issue. I can put a cd or dvd in the drive, and it accepts it and spins it, but nothing is coming up on the desktop. And i cannot eject the disc either with the eject button or the manual ways i've read about (holding down the trackpad button during startup, the credit card method, etc.)Â I've restarted several time and I've attempted reseeting the power management. no change. Â
I should also state that this is a drive that i have recently installed. the old one was bunk, and I have replaced it with another used one. However, it was working properly when I installed it. I have since having this current issue, gone back in a made sure everything is connected properly. Â Under the system profile it shows under ATA that no ATA device is present, and a similar message is showing under disc burning. Â
