MacBook Pro :: Should Purchase A Security Software For Mac
Apr 15, 2012
My daughter recently had a virus on her Macbook pro, the symptoms were that she would frequently log out of her internet connection, she was guided by this support community to clean up her macbook, however, i'm a bit scared that the trojan virus she might have had, could be on my macbook also since we communicate frequently via email or skype. how can I find out if my Macbook Pro is also infected? and, is there a recommended virus protection software to purchase for Macs?
This has happened over the past few days. I've attempted to make new purchases both in the App Store and on iTunes. I'm queried for my Apple ID, then I'm asked to enter three new security questions and answers. When I complete this step, I receive a message that the App Store (or iTunes, depending on where I am) is "temporarily unable to process" my request and to try later. I've even reset my Apple ID password, logged out, logged back in, and attempted a purchase, but to no avail. I've run into the same problem attempting to purchase new apps on my iPhone and iPad as well. Updates to previously-purchased apps work, but not new purchases.
Looking for some feedback here. Currently own an iPad and love it. MBA has always intrigued me. I can pull the trigger on a used (excellent condition) rev B MBA with 128 SSD for $850 or go the new 13" MBA route.
I knew I should wait to see what Rev C looked like before buying an MBA, but I am disappointed that we didn't get 4GB RAM or a larger SSD. So now I'm strongly considering a new 13" MBP with 256GB SSD (or maybe 500GB SATA if it isn't too sluggish) with 4GB RAM. I know it's a steal, but on the other hand the MBA price cut is pretty tempting. Is anyone else on the fence about which to get? The 13" MBP or MBA? I'm going to college in the fall so portability is a consideration, though either option would be an improvement over my 12" iBook in terms of weight and even thinness.
I have two major concerns with the MBA rev C.:
1) The battery. 3 hours (with the MBA) is probably good enough in most cases, as this is roughly what I get currently with my iBook. However, the MBP has a major advantage with its new battery tech.
2) Hard drive. I know I would not buy a MBA unless it had a SSD in it, but I really don't know if 128GB will be enough for me down the road. It is right now (my HDD space is mostly music and iPhoto libraries...no video editing for me) but I am thinking that videos from iTunes which I may or may not begin purchasing at some point will eat up space. I would be more comfortable purchasing 250+GB of HDD space in my next computer. I remember in 2004 buying my iBook thinking that 30GB would be plenty. Boy, was I wrong!...................
I just jumped on the Mac train and bought a Macbook Pro 13". There's a dead pixel on the screen. I'm taking it back to the retailer tomorrow. The retailer has a zero dead pixel guarantee on monitors so I'm going to hope that covers laptops too. I just wanted to know how many others have experienced dead pixels on purchasing a new Macbook Pro - i.e. what's the likelihood that the next one I get will have a dead pixel?
I have an elderly MacBook that runs quite happily but wants to use Mobile Me. I also have a new iPad and iPhone bothe with OS 5.1 and which want to use iCloud. So how do I get to sync my MacBook with my other devices without having to buy a new OS for it??
I'm trying to find a simple movie editor ( not expensive ) and my imovie is from 2008 which lacks the slow motion effect I need. I simply just wanted to purchase the most recent imovie but it said I had to have mac OSX 10.7.4 or higher... This is really frustrating. I have a project at school and all I need is to simply slow down my movie!
Does anyone know if you can upgrade say the hard disk of a base level macbook pro (13 inch i'm looking at) AT the apple store? I guess to illustrate my point - I'm looking at the baseline 13 inch macbook pro and I wanted to upgrade the hard drive from the 160 gb - maybe the 300 or 500 gb hard drive. Because I'm only stopping by for a day I wanted to buy one on the spot (thus getting it at an apple store rather than buying it online).
Can you call an Apple Store and purchase something that they will hold for you when you come in? I wanted to pick up a macbook pro today but it's an hour drive and want to make sure it's available at that configuration. Also do they need to see the credit card used? It's a corporate card that I don't physically have on me.
If one buys a brand new sealed macbook pro from a private seller off craigslist/ebay/kijiji without a receipt can they register it with Apple? I know if one checks the serial number it will tell if there is warranty on the machine and an estimated purchase date. However, I was told by Apple that I would not be able to purchase and attach applecare to the machine because there was no prooof that the machine was infact purchased by someone - but that the machine does have one year warranty from the estimated purchase date.
Wondering if anyone has encountered such a situation where they bought a machine privately and then wanted to add applecare to it within the standard one year warranty period and was denied by Apple because there was no proof of purchase for the hardware. Or was the Apple rep just misinformed - if a machine is under one year warranty then one can purchase and apply applecare anytime within the one year.
Wondering if buy a machine and then 3 months down the road decide to buy applecare, has anybody been denied adding that applecare even though the machine is covered under the one year warranty. Also has anyone resistered hardware in their name without proof of purchase other than an ebay/craigslist printout?
Well, I'm trying to buy a MacBook Pro online, the $100 software and the 3 year guarantee and it says that my credit card information isn't accepted. I called the credit card company 5 times and they said everything is fine. I retyped all the necessary information 3 times. Still the same result: credit card is not accepted. However, the $100 software is purchased but not the MacBook Pro nor the 3 year guarantee. This is extremely weird as to why one is purchased but not the others.
I just installed a new hard drive in my Macbook. I used the discs that came with the computer. I started the computer, went to the Disk Utility and created a partition named Macintosh HD. I made sure it was a GUID petition. When I restart to install the operating system I get a message "MAC OS x cannot be installed on this computer.
Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5), discs that came mac do not work
just got my laptop a little over a month ago. I have 2 dead pixels on the screen already. The first one, I noticed a few weeks ago and thought it was just a smudge and ignored it. But it hasn't gone away and I researched it a bit and discovered it was a dead pixel (It looks like a small line, thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top of the line). The 2nd one is at the very bottom of the screen and I just noticed it today. I have tried those pixel fixer applications, and they haven't done anything.
I bought my MBP at Best Buy and can't take it back since it's been past the 14 day policy if anything was wrong w/ the screen, to get it repaired or fixed. Plus, I didn't get AppleCare (I'll probably buy it when I graduate college this spring), so I only have the 1-year warranty. However, can if I take it to the Apple store what will they do? Will they fix the screen or just replace it? And since I don't have AppleCare, does anybody know how much it will cost (screen repair vs replacement)?
I upgraded my hard drive in my 1st gen unibody MacBook Pro and I have the old drive just laying around. I am thinking of reformatting the drive and using the drive to test stuff out in. where I can purchase four of the hard drive screw/posts? I tried going to the Genius Bar, they referred me to Apple Care, who referred me to an authorized apple dealer... Who want to charge me an hour of labor. I tried to look for them at Fry's but no luck.
I want to buy a Macbook Pro from the online store, but this message keeps appearing when I try to checkout. "A request to your bank for the funds necessary to ship this order was declined." I tried 2 different debit cards, both have sufficient funds.
lion shows as purchase in app store even though it came bundled, also facetime, keynote, pages and numbers even though these were pre installed with the macbookpro late 2011.
Where is a good store online to purchase a Hard drive Model 1.8 128GB Sata Lif? I have been checking all local computer stores near my areas and no one can get a hold or them. Anyone know where i can find these online from a good website like newegg or etc?
