Dec 6, 2010I just bought my first Mac. I got the Macbook pro 15" with the 2.4 Ghz Intel i5.So far I love how well it runs but Ive got some questions.Does your Macbook get very hot on the bottom? I was using it without the battery and it seemed like it was very hot to touch.Could you help me find a firewire cble for my Sony Handycam dcr-hc28? Im not sure how many pins I need to fit in my MacBook.And lastly Im having trouble getting my Yahoo mail using the Mail program in my dock. What am I missing?

Feb 20, 2009I am a fairly new Mac user (2 months) and there is something I'd like to do that I haven't figured out how to do (or even if possible). I'd like to setup something on the Dock so that when I click on it a pop-up list displays that has all my applications and I can then click an application to start it. I have created an alias to my Application folder and have moved that folder to the Dock, but when I click on it, it opens a window that I then have to close after my application starts. I want it to work more like the Start menu in Windows (gasp).

Feb 25, 2009I am new to using mac and just got a new HP printer to replace my old hp printer. If I understand correctly I click and drag my current HP printer file/icon to the trash and then search for additional files using applef to delete the rest. Is this right? Am I missing any other crucial steps? If the brand is the same do I need to remove the additional files?
Also and this may be a stupid question, but how do i make sure that my computer does not recognize the old printer for my wireless network when I set up my new one?
Software :: Apple Mail Program Doesn't Send Mail Through Optimum Mail
Aug 29, 2009I'm having trouble with my Apple Mail program. I have a number of e-mail accounts (some with Optimum online, a g-mail, yahoo, etc.) Apple Mail has no problem at all reading and downloading any mail from any of the services. My problem is with Optimum Mail (Optonline.net). Mail refuses to send anything through that set-up. I've been on the phone for hours with Optimum and the settings are all correct. I've tried connecting directly to the cable modem and mail gets sent. This would make me believe that it is the Apple Airport Extreme router that is at fault. I've tried restarting it, re-initializing it and setting it up again and the problem continues. All my Optimum mail is picked up and can be read but it will not send anything through Optimum. It asks if I want to send it through another server (like g-mail or yahoo) and if I pick yes the mail sends.
It happens on all my computers a G-3 and pre Intel iMac G-5 on Tiger and my Macbook on Leopard.
Anyone else hear of this problem? Both Apple support and Optimum online say they have never heard of it. Talking for hours with their tech departments have found no solutions.

Anyways the first is every time I open the program it goes threw the setup every time even to the registration again and putting in my keychain password like installing a new program, did I not install it right ? Second I have the program open now and I choose a folder to open were my movies are and I could here the computer serching for the cd in the drive and the little wheel just spins untill I put the cd in the drive, does this program only work with the cd in the drive ?

Feb 28, 2010I'm running the 24" dual 3.06 ghz iMac with an NVIDIA 8800gs, bootcamp partitioned with windows 7 (32bit) and snow leopard.
First off, I just want to say that it works perfectly well, no problems with the bootcamp software, windows 7 works like a dream (but is no mas os, obviously). The only problem I am having, however, is when I try and update my nvidia drivers.
The bootcamp nvidia drivers are fine, but I have recently been getting the general protection fault when playing mass effect - causing it to crash fairly often. To remedy this, I tried to install the latest nvidia 8800gs driver from their website. Every time I try, be it in safe mode after uninstalling the current drivers, manually or just running the executable, I keep getting the same message in the title.
I tried searching the forums for a remedy, and there are some similar cases, none I have found thus far have been able to get this working for me. I even uninstalled all the bootcamp files under windows 7, still didn't work. Is there currently some issue with the mac-model 8800GS?

Mar 18, 2009Is there a way to have a program open at login (I know, I know, select "open at login") but then NOT appear in the dock when it's open? I'd like to have my Garmin software always open but hate the cluttered space of having it open. I can always close it with Cmd+tab. I'm running Leopard 10.5.6.

Mar 17, 2012When I wake Lion out of sleep, mail frequently does not find new messages from my aol account. Even if I hit "Find Mail", the new emails do not show up. Maybe an hour or more later they will finally come through
These mails are showing up no problem under notifications on my iPad & iPod touch.
If I restart mail, it finds the messages immediately .me works fine, gmail also Idle is on & it is set to check every minute

When I go to the Mail program/Preferences/Accounts I see a screen that has three sections.
