View 1 RepliesMy iMac displays "Preferd network not found" and a list of available networks to choose from. But my network IS on the list. Why does iMac not connect automatically ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook air, but this seems to apply to any mac's with airport. I connect once to our corporate wireless network, I type in the password and it connects. On occasions, when I start up the computer, it doesn't connect and a window pops up with my network listed but it says "none of your preferred networks are available". When I first connect I do check off remember this network. So why isn't it remembering it?
When I go into system preference and click on network, select airport and click on advanced, that network does appear under the preferred networks. Does anyone know why its not letting me automatically connect the next time? Sometimes its ok, sometimes it doesn't even know I connected to this network before.
How can I change the preferred order of networks on my MacBook Pro? There used to be one network at my office. Now there is a second higher speed wifi network also present which I would prefer to connect to, but the Macbook connects to the older one unless manually changed.
Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
It will connect to it fine manually, but when it open it up it tells me that none of my preferred networks are available. I've modified my list of preferred networks, still doesn't work.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
Several times when I turn on my laptop the date regresses to 2003 or around there. When this happens the preferred network is no longer saved and I must re-enter the information. The printer that I got specifically to work with my laptop can no longer scan documents to my Mac and the settings were never changed, I'm really at a loss. My Mac is also running really slow.

In my house, there are several available WiFi networks, including my airport. I tried joining one of the others once when mine was down, and now my computer regularly attempts to join that one when ever it wakes up. Can I make it forget to join that network, or make mine its first preference?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAll of our Macs when first started begin Airport scanning. They log in to an unsecured network from a neighbors home instead of the network we have set as preferred. We then must select manually from the list of available networks which is quite a lot in our community. Why is this and what can we do to stop this?

I don't know how I can let my mini connect automatically to my wi-fi network?
Info:Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
After returning from sleep mode my prefered network won't automatically connect. I checked the settings and its set to automatically connect to my network. I have to turn of the wireless and then turn it back on or select my network before it will connect.

My system drive recently failed and so I installed on a another drive in my mac pro. I've taken the other (failed) drive out. My current system drive which works great so far when my computer is booted up and running, is not found automatically during start up. For example, if I restart the computer it will either show me a blank screen forever, sometimes a missing folder, sometimes nothing. But if I hold option during start up, sure enough the system drive will show up and I can go on my way with no problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI really like my new MacBook Air, but one thing bothers the crap out of me which is that my airport doesn't automatically connect at home. I did nothing to my network out of the box and connect via WPA2 settings. My wife's late 2008 MacBook always connects to our home network (which is an Apple Extreme N router). Even my Dell Mini with OSX connects perfectly every time. What's causing the MacBook Air not to automatically connect and how do I fix it? BTW, I have tried turning off the Airport and turning back on. Also I used "assist me" to reconnect my DHCP settings and clicked to automatically connect me to my network. The only way I can connect is to click down on the wireless icon and actually choose the network.

My preference is set to automatically join, but it does not seem to be working. It is wep pw protected by have provided the password. That is not the problem. As soon as I click on my connection it comes right on. But it will not join automatically.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem accessing Google from Mac OS X 10.6.5 on my iMac9,1. I can access any other websites without a problem. I can access Google without a problem when I boot Win 7. I have tried restarting my ASDL modem/router. This was all working fine until a few days ago. I haven't made any networking-related changes in last few days. Here's what's happening. In Chrome 7.0.517.44 I can make an initial search from the search/address bar. All the content will appear but the page will never finish loading. A request for generate_204 from clients1.google.com.au never completes. Then I can cannot make any other Google requests without explicitly stopping the browser. Sometimes stopping the browser doesn't work and I have to quit it and start it again, then I can make another initial request, and the cycle repeats.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a new MacBook Pro (my first Apple!) that I have successfully integrated in my home network. My home network consists of Linksys WRT54G wireless Router; Iomega network hard drive (attached to router); Dlink DPR1260 wireless print server connected to Brother HL5140 printer & Epson RX680 printer; and numerous windows PCs (wireless).
My MBP recognizes the network hard drive folders. When I go to set up Time Machine, it keeps looking for a device hooked into it, but does not search for or see other potential back up locations. How do I set up Time Machine to regular back things up to a folder on my network storage drive?
In having a problem with my MacBook pro with OS X 10.10 installed and the network hostname just changes automatically from "my MacBook Pro" to "my MacBook pro (2)" And later on it changes to "my MacBook pro (4)" . How this happens and how to resolve this I tryed to change the host name but it automatically changes back agaiN even when I disconnect the wifi then change the name back into "my MacBook Pro" it takes abou a minute to automatically change back into my "MacBook pro (2)" or even "my MacBook pro (4)"....

How do I get my Mac to select my Wi-fi network automatically? It used to do it on its own and now it goes into Network Diagnstic and I have to select. It used to work and now every time I go online I need to reconnect to my wi-fi.

How to automatically mount other Macs on the network, or if not, then post an explanation here on how to accomplish that objective?
For example, my Mac Pro tower has 4 disks and when I boot up all 4 disks are mounted. Then, when I turn on my Macbook Air and turn on my MacBook Pro, those laptops show up in Finder as shared. The Macbook Pro is partitioned, so it would be nice if I could specify which disk to mount in Finder.
I use Backup (the Mac app) to backup some things to my iDisk and others to an hd connected to my airport extreme. It works fine, except for that when the app appears (each day) for the scheduled backup to the network hd, (it sits there waiting, saying ''waiting for volume... and the name of the disk"). I have to go to the finder, open a window, go to 'All' under 'Shared' locations, choose the network hd, click on the folder (there's only one one the disk) and then, and only then, will the backup begin. Is there any way for it to just be able to find the folder by itself and perform the backup without my having to find the folder for it every time?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy old TiBook running Tiger did this without a hitch, but now that I'm on Snow Leopard it refuses to automatically connect to any computer-to-computer network.
My new laptop is an aluminum MacBook though I doubt that makes any difference as I know it's an OSX issue.
I've listed it as a preferred network in the AirPort preferences pane, but it doesn't seem to help.
There might be a terminal command to make it do this but I don't know it. Any suggestions?
I've got rid of other networks in system preferences, but they still appear on the toolbar when I click airport, and my network is not first
Also, again on the toolbar, my network appears twice

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've found plenty of articles on how to get Time Machine to backup TO a network drive, however I have the opposite problem; I have a Windows machine on my network, with some shared folders, and I'd like to back-up their contents using Time Machine on my Mac since it has plenty of space, without having to copy their contents somewhere first if possible.
However, Time Machine only lets you choose what to exclude, it doesn't let you specify special sources to backup. I was thinking a symbolic link from /Volumes, but I've no idea where to point it to. A second relevant question as well would be; how do I get OS X to automatically connect to a Windows share when it's available? The Windows machine isn't always on when I start up my Mac, but I don't want to have to manually connect all the time
I've been having lots of problems with my network lately I had to reset it. But since then my Macbook will not remember it as a preferred network. (At least I think thats what the problem is.) When I open the lid my computer wakes up and then I get the popup message (look at picture 1) then I have to click on my network which is called linda. Then my the space to write my password is already filled (see picture 2), I have to click JOIN and only then I can go online. But I've had to do these steps at least 10 times a day for the past month and now im sick of it!
