Mac Pro :: 10.6.8 - How To Automatically Mount Shared Device On Network

Jul 1, 2014

How to automatically mount other Macs on the network, or if not, then post an explanation here on how to accomplish that objective?

For example, my Mac Pro tower has 4 disks and when I boot up all 4 disks are mounted.  Then, when I turn on my Macbook Air and turn on my MacBook Pro, those laptops show up in Finder as shared.  The Macbook Pro is partitioned, so it would be nice if I could specify which disk to mount in Finder.

OS X :: PC Server Is Showing As A Shared/Network Device?

Jul 5, 2009

I'm new to mac and don't have any idea on how I got this one. I already tried to restart my machine but the "ibmt61l3cv479" keeps on displaying on the Shared list. I didn't connect to any PC Servers and afraid that someone is accessing my mac.

Do you know how can I get rid of this?

MacBook Pro :: Shared Device / Wireless Network Security

Mar 9, 2012

my daughters SLEEPING MBP has appeared on my MBP as a shared device. How is this possible if it's sleeping? Perhaps there's a good explanation for this, but I'm concerned about it. She connects via wireless to our home D-link wireless router. Wasn't sure where to ask question on boards..

OS X :: Disk On Network Doesn't Automatically Mount Using Backup

Sep 13, 2009

I use Backup (the Mac app) to backup some things to my iDisk and others to an hd connected to my airport extreme. It works fine, except for that when the app appears (each day) for the scheduled backup to the network hd, (it sits there waiting, saying ''waiting for volume... and the name of the disk"). I have to go to the finder, open a window, go to 'All' under 'Shared' locations, choose the network hd, click on the folder (there's only one one the disk) and then, and only then, will the backup begin. Is there any way for it to just be able to find the folder by itself and perform the backup without my having to find the folder for it every time?

OS X :: Auto-mount A Network Drive After Connecting To A Wireless Network?

Sep 22, 2010

I am trying to figure out how to automatically connect a MacBook to a network drive after connecting to the wireless network that the drive is connected to.

Here is the situation:

I back-up my wife's MacBook via Time Machine to an external hard drive that is connected to my Apple desktop. It works great! I even have her system setup to automatically mount the drive upon log-in. Unfortunately, after leaving our wireless signal and then coming back the time machine drive isn't automatically mounted since she isn't "logging back-in". Is there an automator script that can be built to automatically connect to drive X after connecting to wireless network Z?

I've googled and search here, and I just can't find the answer to this.

I renamed one of my computers at home. Now both instances of it show up in the Shared section of the finder sidebar and I can't remove the old one. When I do a Get Info, it shows as a PC Server, but I can't actually access anything on it. Is there any way to keep this from showing up?

Hardware :: How To Connect To NAS - Auto Mount Device

Feb 5, 2009

Just a quick questions for anyone with a NAS. I am thinking of purchasing a NAS and my question is this, how do you connect to the device? What I want is a storage device connected to my AEBS which can then be accessed from my laptop and desktop. Also I want this device to auto mount on start-up, I think this is relatively easy by dragging the HD icon into your start-up items list. The NAS I am looking at is this one: WD ShareSpace

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mount Device Via USB In Single User Mode

Jul 4, 2012

My macbook pro appeared to be crashed with harddisk problem at start time.. unable to boot to normal login screen. When I run in single user mode, I dont seem to see my thumbdrive, or external device.

I connected them via the USB ports on my Macbook pro (17")(Snow Leopard) I checked /dev/disk* and saw only disk0 (disk0, disk0s1, disk0s2, disk0s3). I never get to see disk1 no matter what I tried. (I've various MSDOs format, or NTFS format disks).

I followed the advise here: [URL] Am I supposed to be able to see the drive the moment I connect it to the port?

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Mount Hd Automatically / System Asks For Permissions

Feb 15, 2011

I have a Seagate Free Agent external USB hard disk (250 GB) which I had reformatted to FAT32. This draws power from the USB port and seems to work perfectly on my Linux (Fedora Core 8) and Windows (XP) boxes. On the Mac, when it is plugged in, it asks me whether it should Initialize, Ignore or Eject. I choose "Ignore" and then go on to mount it from the terminal using the commands sudo mkdir /Volume/FA sudo mount /dev/disk2s1 /Volume/FA. The device name has to be found out first using Disk Utility. After it is mounted, I can read, write, delete etc. without any problem.

Question: Why does it not mount this disk automatically? Even when it is mounted why does it not put a disk icon on my Desktop? I have no issues with smaller FAT32 pen drives which show up on my Desktop a few seconds after I plug them in.

Applications :: What To Use To Develop Shared Network Drive Application

Nov 13, 2009

I've got an idea for an application that will expand upon the idea of a "shared network drive". Initial release will not include a "web app" per se, it would only include computers connected to the same network. Long-term though I would like to have a web interface similar to that of DropBox. What sort of technologies would I need in order to implement this? Objective-C? Things like, "right-click" menu modification, accessing hard-drives of other computers on the network running the same application.

OS X :: Find Device Of PC On Network?

Dec 7, 2009

I've got a rather strange thing happening...Disable ALL network interfaces, including Bluetooth, have only my Ethernet enabled, going directly to DSL modem (not router).Yet, I am picking up a computer in my network browser. I can browse this computer's shared docs just fine, and in fact, he is not setup very securely so I could easily delete his entire music and photo library or send malicious files to him (or her).

But, I am wondering how I am even seeing this device. From what I know, on a DSL connection, you should never see any other computers on that ISP. I know sometimes this will happen with Cable, but I've never seen it on DSL.How do I find the IP or MAC address of this computer? I actually work at my internet provider, and I'd like to see if I can find which customer it is and why I am picking them up on my network browser, and hopefully alleviate the problem.

OS X :: Home Network - Shared Video Files Playback Halt

Dec 21, 2009

I have video files (avi's) on one machine that I'm playing on the other machine. The files play no problem but their is an intermittent halting. I probably wouldn't call it a stutter exactly. It stops playing and the screen halts at a particular frame, and then after a bit it starts playing again. I'm wondering if this is normal behaviour or if I have something setup incorrectly on my network. Also, I'm wondering what the solution to this is other than copying the files from one machine to the other.

MacBook Pro :: Connecting To LanierLD145 Printer Via Shared Wireless Network

Jun 6, 2012

I am a new intern with a small company and am trying to connect my Macbook Pro's printer settings to our office printer, which is a LanierLD145. We halso have an HP3600 on the same wireless network which my Macbook can detect and print to just fine via the shared network server. However, when I try to find the LanierLD145 I can't find it anywhere on my shared network or via a wireless to connection in order to print to it from my laptop.

I have access to the desktop I believe the printer is routed to the server through and have "shared printer with network" via this computer. However, I still cannot find the LD145 icon on my macbook when I try to connect and print, even when going through the "Windows"-> (shared server) route. I've also installed apple's "general lanier printer driver" in hopes have luck finding the printer if I have the driver installed, but that has not worked either. How I can connect the macbook to the LanierLD145 via my wireless server connection?

OS X :: Cannot Read Or Mount Network NTFS Drives

Nov 8, 2010

I can view the NTFS shared drives, though when I try to access them I get this error. The operation can't be completed because the original item for "Drive Name" can't be found. I can read NTFS USB drives fine, and with NTFS Mounter running I can write to them all the same. However this is not the case whatsoever with networked NTFS drives. I am sharing them from a Windows 7 x64 PC, my Mac is a 1st gen Intel Core Duo 1.66.
