My son called and said his wi-fi stopped working. His internet connection is good and he can connect directly to the router and get a connection, however, he needs the wi-fi. He has powered down the IMAC,router, modem with no luck. Under network preferences it says not connected, with yellow light. No network IP address for the router as I assume it cannot find it. MacBook Air :: AirPort Not Always Connecting To Preferred Network

Apr 10, 2008

I have a macbook air, but this seems to apply to any mac's with airport. I connect once to our corporate wireless network, I type in the password and it connects. On occasions, when I start up the computer, it doesn't connect and a window pops up with my network listed but it says "none of your preferred networks are available". When I first connect I do check off remember this network. So why isn't it remembering it?

When I go into system preference and click on network, select airport and click on advanced, that network does appear under the preferred networks. Does anyone know why its not letting me automatically connect the next time? Sometimes its ok, sometimes it doesn't even know I connected to this network before.

MacBook Pro :: Forgotten The Date As Well As Preferred Network Passwords?

Mar 23, 2012

Several times when I turn on my laptop the date regresses to 2003 or around there.  When this happens the preferred network is no longer saved and I must re-enter the information.  The printer that I got specifically to work with my laptop can no longer scan documents to my Mac and the settings were never changed, I'm really at a loss.  My Mac is also running really slow.

OS X :: AirPort Not Pickup Preferred Wireless Network

May 25, 2009

All of our Macs when first started begin Airport scanning. They log in to an unsecured network from a neighbors home instead of the network we have set as preferred. We then must select manually from the list of available networks which is quite a lot in our community. Why is this and what can we do to stop this?

MacBook :: Won't Work With Wifi Network / Drops Wifi

Jan 10, 2011

MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.

Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect
I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox.
Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would.
At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.

So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.

Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

AIRPORT says the following in System Profiler.

Software Versions:
Menu Extra:6.2.1 (621.1)
configd plug-in:6.2.3 (623.2)
System Profiler:6.0 (600.9)
Network Preference:6.2.1 (621.1)
AirPort Utility:5.5.2 (552.11)

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Recognize A WiFi SSID On Computer

Aug 31, 2014

The menu that lists the choices for my wifi internet connection includes the internet connection I set up with the SSID that I recognize (call it A) - but it also contains another SSID that I may have set up a long time ago and forgot about (call it B). B's  SSID is the same name as the brand of my router; it has no protection listed. It also gets better connectivity than SSID A. How can I find out if B is actually my own connection? How can I add a security password?

MacBook Air :: WiFi Is Always Looking For Network To Log Into?

Aug 29, 2014

I have a high speed wi-fi connection in my home.  My MacBookAir looks like its always looking to connect to Network vs. just staying logged into the preferred Network.  I see this is a slow process that affects the speed of my surfing the web.

What I'm I doing wrong in my settings?  is it something to do with Configuration of IPv4 in TCP/IP; my is at "using DHCP".  Should I have something in 802.1X Profile Information?  Proxies; I have my set to "Auto Proxy Discovery"

Why cant I surf seamlessly?  Why dos it look like my Wi-Fi is always trying to connect to my home Network?

Are there any PC Cards (I think that's what they were called) that allow you to get online when out of wifi range, when traveling etc.? Or I think I'd heard about a way you can connect your macbook to your iphone, and piggyback the connection that way, I think called a Leash perhaps? MacBook Air :: Why Does Wifi Not Connect To A Network

Mar 25, 2012

Since about 2 days ago, my wifi on my Macbook air running 10.7.3 Lion does not connect to any wireless network, whether it's naked, WEP encrypted, or WP2 encrypted.  It fails on 'Network Settings' Network Status step (Wi-fi and Wi-fi settings are 'green').  In fact, I can use my other Macbook running 10.7.2 Lion as well as my Android phone to connect to the wireless networks my Macbook air cannot connect to.

What I find really weird is I tried re-installing Lion on my Macbook air using the 'command-R' key on bootup.  I was able to successfully connect to my WEP encrypted router during the re-install. But once it was done and re-booted I once again cannot connect to any wifi.

So something really funny is going on while OS-X is fully booted on my Macbook air.

This is pretty crummy situation to be in because the Macbook airs don't have a default ethernet jack built into it, so the computer is somewhat useless.

OS X :: My MacBook Won't Connect To My Home WiFi Network?

Dec 10, 2010

My MacBook, circa 2007, refuses to connect to my home WiFi network, despite having added my MAC address, being WPA encrypted, updated firmware and the like. I haven't had a problem in the last year, until I started taking my laptop to work. It connects to my work wifi network, WPA encryption, and every other network. I have no idea why it wont connect at home. I'm running snow leopard, other macs and PCs at home can connect... It seems I'm missing some odd quirk, I've seen a few threads of similar complaints, but no working resolution. Any ideas? I've wiped out Safari, cleaned all network settings, and it all started once my use shifted predominantly from home to work. Hmpf.

OS X :: MacBook White - Using AirPort With WPA WIFI Network

Apr 13, 2009

I have a NetGear Router, locked to a Cable Modem from my ISP, I use a WPA setup with Tkip. I have had this enabled since last November. Now for some reason today, the MacBook will NOT CONNECT, it asks for a WPA code, even when I enter the code it comes up "connection timeout"

I have rebooted the entire network, and while everything else connects the MacBook refuses point blank to even attempt, with the connection timeout message showing within seconds of an attempt.

I cannot restore due to GB's of Data being on the HD and no Mac compatible external available.
