I have just bought a X25-M SSD drive for my MBP (mid-2010). Is it recommend to clone my existing stock drive to get OSX on the SSD or should I rebuild from scratch and perhaps use Time Machine to recover all my apps and settings?
Any advice appreciated.

Two of my six mailboxes were duplicated after the update, so I deleted the duplicates in mail preferences. However, the original mailboxes then lost all email content and showed only the headers, so I rebuilt them both and hey presto - instantly lost the entire contents of both mailboxes, including headers. Any ideas for recovering? Have tried hosting server but emails have also gone from there.

My Mac Pro RAID 5 (with Apple RAID controller card and RAID 5 volume with 3 hard disks) showed degraded RAID set message due to failed drive. After I repalced the failed drive, I was unable to add it back to the RAID set. So I tried to removed or deleted this RAID set so that I can rebuild the RAID set from scratch. No matter what I did, I was unable to delete the RAID set using the RAID Utility.

I have a MacBook Pro that is about 4 years old. I'd like to format the hard drive and start over. I don't have the original DVD that shipped with it. Is it possible to purchase a copy of Lion and get it installed in some manner?

I run SSD/HDD, my HDD in the optibay is broken, I stuck it in a external and it makes finder freeze, it got bumped around too much so I want to put a new one back in the 'correct place' for a spinner, and stick the SSD in the optibay.(I figure the extra 2% of shock protection offered by the orange rubber circle things is worth the trouble of moving everything).
I am also going to buy a WD 3 platter 1TB laptop drive, and I read that they fit fine in the regular spot in MBP's (I'm going to open and measure in a min.)Anyways, there's no BIOS, only EFI, so how to I pick what drive to boot from? with 10.6 is it as simple as holding option down on boot, and picking my 'OSX' HDD, and then it will auto boot from that until I specify otherwise? (I ask because before 10.6 people on here were always talking about how to switch boot drives.)

I've been hearing good things about the Spinpoint Drives and the 750GB ones are coming down in price. Here is my current setup1 - 500MB Drive - Leopard2 - 320MB Drive - Vista 643 - 500MB Drive - FAT32 (Shared, Irrelevant)I plan on replacing drives 1 and 2 with 750GB Spinpoint drives. My question is, can I boot off of the Leopard dvd and put in Drive 1 and NewDrive1 and just clone it, and do the same for Drive2 and NewDrive2 and clone it? And then go into Leopard and resize the HFS partition, and go into Vista and resize the NTFS partition?

Ran the update from the Apple Update, which included iLife update and some other minor updates to the airport. Now the thing takes about 6 mnutes to boot up and once booted up, it will not respond in any meaningful way. Endless beachballs abound! I've tried zapping the PRAM, but no luck.

In outlook mail a box came up saying to rebuild database which I did. I clicked done when finished. When I went to email I can now receive emails and reply to emails but I cannot start a new email without the prompt to rebuild coming up.Once this prompt comes up I have to rebuild again as the swirly thing prevents me from doing anything else, so I end up in a circular pattern and consequently can't use outlook.

MacBook Pro will not boot after doing an Apple Software Update (of course they will not help you). MONEY, MONEY, MONEY is the name of the game. They can cause your computer to crash and still charge you! Â
why my computer is showing a little gear spinning for hours? I have tried several things with NO luck.Â

Just did Software Update from Apple and it crashed severely. Now it will not boot-up. I had the fading down screen with a message saying to hold down the on Button to reboot but it will not, it starts up with the same massage. It also comes up with some and more of the info below, whatever it means?
Panic CPU 0 <Panic>
Unable to find perform text scan:
Debugger called <Panic>
Can't perform text scan:
SD process name corresponding to correct thread
MAC OS Version: Not yet set.
I also updated a Mac Mini and iMac with no problems.

After updating to iTunes 10.1.1 the app did not start at first so I went to download it and installed it manually. iTunes works but my boot time went from ~2 wheel turns at the boot screen to ~16. Installed the new airport update, as well. I repaired the permissions and did a PRAM reset.

I have a strange boot issue having (tried) to install EFI 2.7 update. When I restart the laptop, it 'chimes', displays a grey screen, then chimes, displays a grey screen, forever. I hit the bower (off) button for 5 secs or thereabouts, and restart, same thing. I do this 4 times and finally it reboots. But the EFI update still appears as needing to be installed (software update tells me it is not installed). Update history shows however that it IS installed. I can go through this process any number of times. I now have Software Update history showing quite a few installs opf the EFI 2.7 update. If I just do a restart without installing, I also go through the same fail to restart / fail to start / ... / eventually restart sequence.
So it seems now that the laptop will only start after 4 failed restarts and finally it starts. After starting it all appears to be perfectly fine. Nothing strange in the console logs that I can see. The failed reboots don't seem to register in the console logs - I suspect that the failure to restart is pretty early on in the boot sequence, well before it tries to load any semblance of the OSX kernel. It is almost as if it is trying to boot from someplace other than the disk ... until eventually it gives up and tries the disk. (I have tried booting with and without network cable - no difference) I don't know enough about mac bootup sequences to know if there is some config/setting that is screwed up causing this odd behaviour.

Update 2012-002 on macbook pro. When rebooting, after 'successful' install, I now see a repeating cycle of Error = 19, unable to mount root. From my *nix perspective I fear the worst - that the boot sector (at a minimum) is hosed. I tried (running Lion 10.7.x) booting with the command key down - no joy. do not currently have my install disk (sadly, it's in storage, somewhere). I'm concerned about this. this is VERY unusual for an update. This is a relatively new drive (750GB drive installed about 8 months ago). At no point have I seen errors, and believe me, I look. Assuming the worst case is repartitioning? (ah for hte days of 'fdisk /mbr')

When I travel I would generally take a small travel drive that is clone of my white MacBook as a rescue drive. Now that I have the MBA I am wondering if I could just clone my 11.6 MBA to a 64 GB flash drive and then if the worst happened I could reverse clone from the flash drive to the MBA.

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.
So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?

If I have iTunes on an SSD drive (the boot drive in my Mac Mini), can it read the music library on a second rotational hard drive? I'd like not to have the large music library on a 120GB SSD drive.

This is bad and old, and full of lessons about backing up. Anyway, internal boot drive crashed a week ago, and internal optical drive is busted. New external LaCie dvd burner works fine, but all attempts to start up from Tiger, Leopard and Diskwarrior installation disks just end up back in OS10.3 on my external LaCie FW drive. I've tried many things: unplugged everything; switched external LaCie to USB (wouldn't boot), unplugged power from internal optical drive so Mac wouldn't look there first (somebody suggested that). Attempts to start up installers from mounted DVDs result in installer screen with restart button, which, when clicked on, results in... you guessed it... boot back to dreaded 10.3 system. Night owls and westcoasters, I am up for hours yet, pulling hair.

Last week I finally upgraded from 10.6 to 10.7, but now my Mac Pro (2008) won't boot properly. It'll start to boot with the gray screen and the Apple logo, but then the entire screen goes gray and it just locks up there.  However, if I reboot and hold down the Option key to bring up the list of bootable drives that works fine. I've checked my Startup Drive settings and the proper drive is selected. why it won't boot on it's own anymore? Holding down the Option key is getting old.Â

I decided that I couldn't wait for Gainestown and ordered a 2.8x8 MP today. I'm going to get another 8GB of RAM (I assume 10GB in matched pairs will still perform at full speed). My real dilemma is a Boot/Storage solution-I'm moving from a Dual 867 G4, so all my current drives, both internal and external are IDE, which basically means I'm starting over as far as internal drives goes. The G4 power supply gave out so I'm getting this external enclosure to put my old drives into for file recovery. As far as new drives go, I can't figure out what to do. I'll spare you my million iterations of drive configs I've sketched over the past two days.

I have searched a LOT and think I need to rebuild my site, but I wanted to know if I can avoid that.
I have three sites created in iWeb.
They are all published to the web.
I have one domain file (should there be three???)
I have all of the website pages in my website file....however, within iWeb I deleted all of the pages for one of the sites. In order to ever edit those pages, do i need to rebuild them or can I transfer them back in somehow??
One more note...I do have that particular website in its entirety in iWeb on another laptop...(not mine and I do not have continual access to it); will this help me? Can I somehow merge the two iWeb apps so that I have all three websites??

I've read several threads on this, but I cannot find any solution. I tried doing a delete and rebuild of the Spotlight index because it was recommended to do every now and then to improve performance. Ever since then, Spotlight won't index applications. I have Applications checked, I've even unchecked it, restarted and then rechecked it. I've rebuilt the Spotlight index three times and they don't show up. If I use Finder to edit Spotlight comments on an Application, all of a sudden it will show up, but not unless I do that. So, it seems like Spotlight ignores Applications until I do something that triggers Spotlight to see a comment and then all of a sudden the application appears in Spotlight.
All the solutions I have seen online are to check the privacy settings (I have nothing marked private) and to rebuild the index. Neither solution has worked. Does anything have any ideas what is causing most applications to not be picked up by Spotlight unless I add a comment and then erase it updating Spotlight?

So I deleted the Plist files because iTunes would constantly crash when it was "processing" the TV show I was downloading after it reached 100% on the download. SO very annoying. Didn't realize deleting the Plist files also deletes all of the preferences and just about everything else except the music, video, etc. files themselves. So I have all of my iTunes files on my external hard drive where they have always been, but how do I point iTunes to it?
I vaguely remember that I have to open iTunes while holding down some key? Is that right? Which key(s) again?
