I've noticed, that on some of my unibody's macbook pro keys are feeling as if they are wearing out. For example, if i press on the "S" key for a long time, push it up and back, I can feel it squeeck or scratch. The keys do work, but this just gets me concerned if it is beginning to get damaged. Is this normal? Also, can the keyboard get damaged if someone pushes a key too hard?

I spilled coffee on my macbook about a month ago and put it into a bag of rice for a week to try and get the moisture out.. but it had been turned on for a while after it was spilled, so had already done some damage. Basically, the hard drive seems to be completely in tact: all of my files are still there, unharmed, and the screen works perfectly.Only a few of the keys on the keyboard, however, work... basically just the top row, space bar, and enter keys. Also, the mouse pad stll works to move your finger around on, but every time i click with it it acts as if the CONTROL key is being pressed down, and therefore uses a "right-click" function rather than a normal click! this is ok for opening some things?I sm a broke student and am trying to work out how to fix this with the least money possible.. have seen online that you can buy an entire top case for the mac and replace that (my house mates are fairly computer savvy and would be able to d that for me)... but how do i know if this will fix it? could it be something with the logic board instead?

I dropped my Mac Book and broke the screen. More importantly it has also damaged the hard drive. I took it to a repairers who could not read it. And yes of course I am one of those idiots who keep everything on it but does not back it up. So some questions: How screwed am I? Are these data retrieval companys you see advertised any good? Which is the best one in the UK? And how much will it cost?

When I bought this PowerBook, someone spilled soda into the PowerBook's keyboard, and everything on this computer works fine, except for the letters S, W, and Z.
If you pull the keys off, You can see the soda marks, I know with desktop keyboards, you can clean this and it would be fine, however, this has the keys that light up, so I do not know. What should I do besides pay $250 for a new keyboard from Apple?
It looks like the surface of a few keys has been eaten away by acid, I can only imagine it has happened because my fingernails touch the keys through normal typing, but this is completely unavoidable unless I type like a one-fingered man. It mainly seems to happen on the A and S keys, this has happened on my white MacBook, Wireless Aluminium keyboard and Wired Aluminium keyboard, but as they are so expensive to replace I am not willing to buy a whole new keyboard for this. Also, one of my cmd keys has an odd stain on it, possibly from a crumb or droplet of orange juice which I'm sure I would have wiped off immediately, I wouldn't have expected plastic to stain so easily. Has anyone else found this with their Aluminium keyboard?
I suppose there's nothing much I can do to prevent it (I refuse to use a silicone cover), so my option appears to be just to replace those keys damaged through wear and tear however I can. Are the keys interchangeable between these three keyboards? (Wireless / Wired Aluminium, white 2008 MacBook Core2Duo) The main keys look the same apart from the bottom row on the Wired Aluminium keyboard which are a bit wider.

Something happened to my mac when I was traveling, be it a latent hardware flaw, damage, or some other random act, and my mac OSX partition just, well, died. Unbootable, disk utility spends over a day trying to fix the boot record. The Bootcamp windows partition is fritzy, but it at least mounts and periodically can be booted from. I bought an external usb hard drive, loaded SL onto that, and have my mac back up and running again, but no data to speak of. So based on numerous recommendations, I paid good money to purchase Disk Warrior 4. Nothing, just told me the Macintosh HD partition on the hard drive was damaged, but that bootcamp could still be read.

every once and a while, when I am working on my MBA, i get a loud "ticking noise" in the upper right of my keyboard.It sounds like the harddrive is trying to think or something, but it only happens for about 5 seconds and it occurs even at idle if i dont do anything that requires the computer to use memory or access the cache, etc...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was browsing the internet for a couple of hours when I noticed the computer started getting super hot. The fans are going full blast, and the keyboard is also hot. The scary thing is, I'm not running anything but safari. I'm afraid that given where the fall happened (the back of the computer) that I have damaged one of the fans, because one side of the computer (the left) is burning hot and the right is just normal. What should I do? I dunno how much a new fan costs but I'm guessing not cheap.

I can't tour on AirPort. when i hold "tour on" button, MacBook just freezes and then i can't do anything, just shut it down by pressing shutdown button for 5 seconds. i can't find out what is a problem? it's Mac X OS, or AirPort card problem? what should i do? will reinstalling of the OS ?

Whenever I try and delete an application on my mac, the finder just freezes. It isn't able to delete any of the appliction.
When I clicked on the appliction a 'You can't open the application Spotify because it may be damaged or incomplete.' box appears.
Does anyone know a way of either restoring the application or deleting it so I can redownload?

View 23 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro and something happened to the audio jack recently. Not sure what but I have a 3 year old and pc husband at home. Basically the inside of the jack went from being an inny - where you can plug in an audio plug, to an outie - where you can only insert about half of your plug and it won't go in any further. When I go into Sound settings - Output it says the selected device has no controls, and the speaker icon on my status bar is greyed out. I brought it in and they said they would need to replace the logic board in order to fix the jack - $1,000.... yikes.
So long story short I am wondering if it is just the audio jack then could I buy usb speakers and use those instead? Any work around at all? I wish there were a way to just tell the computer to ignore anything the audio jack was telling it, but I was told that is not an option either.
I'm trying to figure out what happened, and what is wrong, with my computer screen. I know it's not a dead pixel, since it's still visable. It's like a burned image, like you would get on a TV. I didn't do any physical damage to it, I know that for sure. Here's a photo. It's the ghosty off-white area that's on the left hand side of the black rectangle. (I made it back so you can see it better on camera, it's not the problem).

I have a Macbook Pro Retina 15'' early 2013 since one year ago. I´ve noticed some distortion when playing loud music but I cannot say if it happened before. If the speaker can be damaged because of playing loud music? Is there any way of checking if the speaker has been damaged?

I dropped my MacBook Pro only about 12 inches and the corner of the shell where the Magsafe connector is located was bent slightly inward. When connected to the AC power there is enough power going through to run the laptop. However, the battery is not charging and now has no green lights when I push the button on the battery. I checked and the battery has been through 129 cycles so should still be good. I'm assuming that means something was damaged with the Magsafe connection when the corner was dented. Does anyone have any advice? How much it would cost to repair the Magsafe connector? My MacBook Pro was purchased in 2007 and I have no other issues with it. Would it be worth repairing or should I get a new one?

I did nothing - at one moment they were there, and then a little later I open up the Apps folder to see this. When I try to click on them, they all say that I can't open the file because it may be damaged or incomplete. I haven't installed anything recently, or messed with any settings. The programs are just gone. Can anyone clue me in on to what I need to do to fix this? I just got this computer last Tuesday, so I doubt I should be having any problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTo begin with, I own a MBP Intel Core Duo 2.0/2 Gigs of ram. I've had this laptop for roughly 18 months and do not have Applecare. I take extreme good care of all my stuff and still baby it till this day. I have NEVER bumped the laptop against anything, accidently dropped it too hard on the desk or anything similar along the lines. Essentially, looking new. About 2 days ago, I was working with my laptop and I closed the lid which made the computer go to sleep. Everything all normal & no appearance of anything! Around mid-night, I opened the MBP's lid to check my email. (Computer awakes, I can hear the Superdrive awake) then boom, a blank screen. The monitor did not turn on then burn out, it was always off. Similar to if you dim your monitor all the way. I can still see the desktop however, there is no light. If I take my flashlight and point it to the desktop, I can see everything. I called a few places, and they described it is the Inverter board or could be the fluorescent bulb that is damaged. My reasoning for the inverter board is faulty is because when a fluorescent bulb goes out it, it tends to flicker at first. Researching this forum, I noticed most MBP users LCD's that go out, they flicker but, mine just went out and I can still see the desktop. Where can I order the inverter board? I tried [URL] but they're out of stock. I will change the inverter board myself because it will be quicker and I need to use my laptop. It is currently hooked up to an external monitor until I can get this fixed.

Whenever I try watching movies on it, it always keeps skipping over nonexistent "damaged areas", even though nothing is wrong with the actual movie DVD. I watch the movies on my TV, and they still work fine, so the problem has to be something with the Mac laptop.
