MacBook Pro :: Uninstall Damaged Installation File?
Mar 28, 2012I tried (and later succeded) installing spotify but I can't purge an earlier damaged installation file from the trash can. It just hangs saying it's deleting.

Aug 16, 2010As you can see, there are a bunch of Apps that I have completely lost. I did nothing - at one moment they were there, and then a little later I open up the Apps folder to see this. When I try to click on them, they all say that I can't open the file because it may be damaged or incomplete. I haven't installed anything recently, or messed with any settings. The programs are just gone. Can anyone clue me in on to what I need to do to fix this? I just got this computer last Tuesday, so I doubt I should be having any problems.

May 22, 2010i was attempting to change the icon of my system pref. the way I have in past OS. This was the first time I had attempted to do it in Snow Lep. Well my method is make a copy duplicate of the system pref application change the icon delete the original remove the word copy from the new one and viola it works perfect. However this time it did not work and now my system pref application will not open at all it says "it is damaged or incomplete"

Jun 18, 2012Was in the middle of installing adobe master collection and it froze. I restarted my machine but cant find the install file. I was using the assistant manager does this mean i need to download the whole thing again or is in in a cache memory folder? Some of the applications have installed and some are have not. What is the best way to clean this up? Do I delete all the files and start again?Is there a cache folder with a file i can click to continue the download?

Mar 12, 2010i'm abit ocd with stuff on my computer, so stuff like this really bothers me. i had parallels one my computer for a little while whilst i needed windows. now i don't i got rid of the partition and uninstalled parallels. but, .exe files and some other files still show the parallels logo, as if it wants to open them in parallels.
is there any way i can change this? i've removed everything i can think of in preferences, application support, startup items, receipts, etc to do with parallels but to no avail.

Nov 16, 2008I'm reloading my computer to clean it up. I also got a lot of good apps on my comp that I want to preserve. After downloading apps, I delete the installation files to preserve memory. After putting my apps on a USB drive, will they work on my reloaded MAC without the installation? Some apps have been payed for and registered also, will they now work?

Jan 31, 2009To play wmv files I downloaded Windows Media Player for Mac. It came in a .bin file. Which I extracted using unarchiver it produces a .sitx file. Which I again tried extracting but it shows an error saying this file cannot be extracted with this program. I downloaded WMP from two three sources but got the same file so same issues. And I don't prefer flip4mac as everytime you try and play a video it starts importing which takes time.

Aug 3, 2010When I click on the .toast file I need to install I get the usual window you get when clicking on a .dmg file. When I doubleclick on the install icon I get this message:

Am I missing any carbon library? I've never installed such thing so I guess I lack this kind of library and i don't know the correct one to install or how to.

Aug 24, 2009I am trying to install Win 7 through Boot Camp, everytime it gets to installing at 1% I get an error message. Windows cannot installed required files. Files missing or Corrupt 0x80070570. What I've tried:
- Using 32 Bit instead of 64 Bit Windows
- Burning both at low speeds (Disk Utilities and IMGBurn)
- Tried installing XP then doing an upgrade to Win 7, but only have XP Upgrade and eject key doesn't work during installation when prompted for older version verification.
Anyone experinced or heard of this before?

MacBook Pro :: Hdd Damaged After Turning Off?
Oct 5, 2010I have an external hard drive attached to my MacBook Pro. Today my MacBoor Pro freezed and I had to turn it off pressing and holding the power button. After turning it on the external hard drive didn't appear in desktop. I checked the disk utility that comes with mac and it shows the HD but I can't mount it.

Mar 17, 2010I was browsing the internet for a couple of hours when I noticed the computer started getting super hot. The fans are going full blast, and the keyboard is also hot. The scary thing is, I'm not running anything but safari. I'm afraid that given where the fall happened (the back of the computer) that I have damaged one of the fans, because one side of the computer (the left) is burning hot and the right is just normal. What should I do? I dunno how much a new fan costs but I'm guessing not cheap.

Apr 18, 2012Whenever I try and delete an application on my mac, the finder just freezes. It isn't able to delete any of the appliction.
When I clicked on the appliction a 'You can't open the application Spotify because it may be damaged or incomplete.' box appears.

Sep 23, 2009I've noticed, that on some of my unibody's macbook pro keys are feeling as if they are wearing out. For example, if i press on the "S" key for a long time, push it up and back, I can feel it squeeck or scratch. The keys do work, but this just gets me concerned if it is beginning to get damaged. Is this normal? Also, can the keyboard get damaged if someone pushes a key too hard?

MacBook :: Keyboard Damaged After Coffee Spill?
Apr 30, 2012I spilled coffee on my macbook about a month ago and put it into a bag of rice for a week to try and get the moisture out.. but it had been turned on for a while after it was spilled, so had already done some damage. Basically, the hard drive seems to be completely in tact: all of my files are still there, unharmed, and the screen works perfectly.Only a few of the keys on the keyboard, however, work... basically just the top row, space bar, and enter keys. Also, the mouse pad stll works to move your finger around on, but every time i click with it it acts as if the CONTROL key is being pressed down, and therefore uses a "right-click" function rather than a normal click! this is ok for opening some things?I sm a broke student and am trying to work out how to fix this with the least money possible.. have seen online that you can buy an entire top case for the mac and replace that (my house mates are fairly computer savvy and would be able to d that for me)... but how do i know if this will fix it? could it be something with the logic board instead?

Jun 24, 2010I have a Macbook Pro and something happened to the audio jack recently. Not sure what but I have a 3 year old and pc husband at home. Basically the inside of the jack went from being an inny - where you can plug in an audio plug, to an outie - where you can only insert about half of your plug and it won't go in any further. When I go into Sound settings - Output it says the selected device has no controls, and the speaker icon on my status bar is greyed out. I brought it in and they said they would need to replace the logic board in order to fix the jack - $1,000.... yikes.
So long story short I am wondering if it is just the audio jack then could I buy usb speakers and use those instead? Any work around at all? I wish there were a way to just tell the computer to ignore anything the audio jack was telling it, but I was told that is not an option either.

Jun 4, 2012I'm trying to figure out what happened, and what is wrong, with my computer screen. I know it's not a dead pixel, since it's still visable. It's like a burned image, like you would get on a TV. I didn't do any physical damage to it, I know that for sure. Here's a photo. It's the ghosty off-white area that's on the left hand side of the black rectangle. (I made it back so you can see it better on camera, it's not the problem).

MacBook Pro :: Magsafe Connector On Laptop Case Damaged - How To Repair
Sep 2, 2010I dropped my MacBook Pro only about 12 inches and the corner of the shell where the Magsafe connector is located was bent slightly inward. When connected to the AC power there is enough power going through to run the laptop. However, the battery is not charging and now has no green lights when I push the button on the battery. I checked and the battery has been through 129 cycles so should still be good. I'm assuming that means something was damaged with the Magsafe connection when the corner was dented. Does anyone have any advice? How much it would cost to repair the Magsafe connector? My MacBook Pro was purchased in 2007 and I have no other issues with it. Would it be worth repairing or should I get a new one?
