I have an external hard drive attached to my MacBook Pro. Today my MacBoor Pro freezed and I had to turn it off pressing and holding the power button. After turning it on the external hard drive didn't appear in desktop. I checked the disk utility that comes with mac and it shows the HD but I can't mount it.
View 3 RepliesI was browsing the internet for a couple of hours when I noticed the computer started getting super hot. The fans are going full blast, and the keyboard is also hot. The scary thing is, I'm not running anything but safari. I'm afraid that given where the fall happened (the back of the computer) that I have damaged one of the fans, because one side of the computer (the left) is burning hot and the right is just normal. What should I do? I dunno how much a new fan costs but I'm guessing not cheap.

I can't tour on AirPort. when i hold "tour on" button, MacBook just freezes and then i can't do anything, just shut it down by pressing shutdown button for 5 seconds. i can't find out what is a problem? it's Mac X OS, or AirPort card problem? what should i do? will reinstalling of the OS ?
i even thought that it could be problem of my Mac X installation DVD, could it be damaged?
Whenever I try and delete an application on my mac, the finder just freezes. It isn't able to delete any of the appliction.
When I clicked on the appliction a 'You can't open the application Spotify because it may be damaged or incomplete.' box appears.
Does anyone know a way of either restoring the application or deleting it so I can redownload?

I've noticed, that on some of my unibody's macbook pro keys are feeling as if they are wearing out. For example, if i press on the "S" key for a long time, push it up and back, I can feel it squeeck or scratch. The keys do work, but this just gets me concerned if it is beginning to get damaged. Is this normal? Also, can the keyboard get damaged if someone pushes a key too hard?

I spilled coffee on my macbook about a month ago and put it into a bag of rice for a week to try and get the moisture out.. but it had been turned on for a while after it was spilled, so had already done some damage. Basically, the hard drive seems to be completely in tact: all of my files are still there, unharmed, and the screen works perfectly.Only a few of the keys on the keyboard, however, work... basically just the top row, space bar, and enter keys. Also, the mouse pad stll works to move your finger around on, but every time i click with it it acts as if the CONTROL key is being pressed down, and therefore uses a "right-click" function rather than a normal click! this is ok for opening some things?I sm a broke student and am trying to work out how to fix this with the least money possible.. have seen online that you can buy an entire top case for the mac and replace that (my house mates are fairly computer savvy and would be able to d that for me)... but how do i know if this will fix it? could it be something with the logic board instead?

View 23 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Pro and something happened to the audio jack recently. Not sure what but I have a 3 year old and pc husband at home. Basically the inside of the jack went from being an inny - where you can plug in an audio plug, to an outie - where you can only insert about half of your plug and it won't go in any further. When I go into Sound settings - Output it says the selected device has no controls, and the speaker icon on my status bar is greyed out. I brought it in and they said they would need to replace the logic board in order to fix the jack - $1,000.... yikes.
So long story short I am wondering if it is just the audio jack then could I buy usb speakers and use those instead? Any work around at all? I wish there were a way to just tell the computer to ignore anything the audio jack was telling it, but I was told that is not an option either.
I'm trying to figure out what happened, and what is wrong, with my computer screen. I know it's not a dead pixel, since it's still visable. It's like a burned image, like you would get on a TV. I didn't do any physical damage to it, I know that for sure. Here's a photo. It's the ghosty off-white area that's on the left hand side of the black rectangle. (I made it back so you can see it better on camera, it's not the problem).

I have a Macbook Pro Retina 15'' early 2013 since one year ago. I´ve noticed some distortion when playing loud music but I cannot say if it happened before. If the speaker can be damaged because of playing loud music? Is there any way of checking if the speaker has been damaged?

I dropped my MacBook Pro only about 12 inches and the corner of the shell where the Magsafe connector is located was bent slightly inward. When connected to the AC power there is enough power going through to run the laptop. However, the battery is not charging and now has no green lights when I push the button on the battery. I checked and the battery has been through 129 cycles so should still be good. I'm assuming that means something was damaged with the Magsafe connection when the corner was dented. Does anyone have any advice? How much it would cost to repair the Magsafe connector? My MacBook Pro was purchased in 2007 and I have no other issues with it. Would it be worth repairing or should I get a new one?

I did nothing - at one moment they were there, and then a little later I open up the Apps folder to see this. When I try to click on them, they all say that I can't open the file because it may be damaged or incomplete. I haven't installed anything recently, or messed with any settings. The programs are just gone. Can anyone clue me in on to what I need to do to fix this? I just got this computer last Tuesday, so I doubt I should be having any problems.

To begin with, I own a MBP Intel Core Duo 2.0/2 Gigs of ram. I've had this laptop for roughly 18 months and do not have Applecare. I take extreme good care of all my stuff and still baby it till this day. I have NEVER bumped the laptop against anything, accidently dropped it too hard on the desk or anything similar along the lines. Essentially, looking new. About 2 days ago, I was working with my laptop and I closed the lid which made the computer go to sleep. Everything all normal & no appearance of anything! Around mid-night, I opened the MBP's lid to check my email. (Computer awakes, I can hear the Superdrive awake) then boom, a blank screen. The monitor did not turn on then burn out, it was always off. Similar to if you dim your monitor all the way. I can still see the desktop however, there is no light. If I take my flashlight and point it to the desktop, I can see everything. I called a few places, and they described it is the Inverter board or could be the fluorescent bulb that is damaged. My reasoning for the inverter board is faulty is because when a fluorescent bulb goes out it, it tends to flicker at first. Researching this forum, I noticed most MBP users LCD's that go out, they flicker but, mine just went out and I can still see the desktop. Where can I order the inverter board? I tried [URL] but they're out of stock. I will change the inverter board myself because it will be quicker and I need to use my laptop. It is currently hooked up to an external monitor until I can get this fixed.

Whenever I try watching movies on it, it always keeps skipping over nonexistent "damaged areas", even though nothing is wrong with the actual movie DVD. I watch the movies on my TV, and they still work fine, so the problem has to be something with the Mac laptop.

I have an i7 MBP and this morning I discovered that its fan is turning on and off at about 2 second intervals. It only occurs when the lid is closed and (seemingly) when the battery is at full charge (i.e., the mag safe is green). As soon as I open the lid the fan comes on and stays on for 30 seconds or so then shuts off as if the system has cooled. Any ideas what this is about?

1) If i just press on the power button i just hear the optical drive shifting and then nothing.
2) If i hold down on the power button, the optical drive starts up, the hard drive starts up, the sleep light turns on.. glows a little then faints and nothing.
The screen never turns on in either case and i never hear the start up sound.I had this problem twice already and solved it by reseting the Pram and by trying to turn it on and off a few times ( eventually it just turned on.. ) . But this time i guess that just won't do.
My macbook pro just went totally dark. I tried turning it off and then on again. It plays the opening music but the screen is black.

Now, recently, he noticed that the green indicator light next to his iSight camera, is always on, even if he just started up his 'Book. If he tries to open Photo Booth, all he gets is not a picture on the Photo Booth window, but in fact, just plain black inside the window, with no error message. Does anyone know what is going on?

so i took out the batteryand it worked.pee yew!but im kinda scary if this will happen againlittle note for my macbookrecently i upgrade my OS system from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6also memory from 512mb to 2gb.and hard drive from 50gb to 250gb.i always check the temperature with Temperature Monitor.and after those upgrades my macbook was getting hotter than before.when i had 10.4.11 highest temp was around 69c
right now highest temp that i saw was 80c. (especially when i do ichat video)
and i have labtop cooling fan.i just installed the 10.5.6 so its pretty much empty no photoshop or anythingjust basic apps and couple of apps that i downloaded from internet (which is legal programs)
My MB shuts on and off....on and off at random intervals. I should start up my computer using Disk utility CD that came with my MB when I bought it, except I managed to misplace it.
