I tried out pram nvram resetting, hardware check is not working either because my keyboard only writes in capital letters

So here the whole story of what I think is relevant to this problem.I tried to install a small program that can read and write NFTS.After installing it needed to reboot my computer.During the reboot my computer shut down before the things were completely installed.My macbook Pro (mid 2009) rebooted and immideiatly stated that the time and date was set to jan 1st 2008.When I tried to adjest this in preferences > time and date the preferences pane did not respond after opening it.I tried to restart my computer again.But now it will only start in Safe mode.

My MacBook is making the startup sound but goes straight to a black/dark grey screen. In other words you can see the screen switching on but it's blank. It's in charge mode, has no other external peripherals attached and it's updated to most recent OSX Yosemite.
I only purchased it in May of this year (refurbished). I have tried booting in to safe mode but again the screen remains the same.
I have a Mac Pro and when I put it to sleep, it randomly starts itself back up-sometimes after 2 minutes and sometimes after 3 hours. I've tried repairing permissions, maintenance, etc. and have no clue as to what might be causing this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a G4 533 and up till 3 weeks ago it worked wonderful for a mail server. I have 1.5gb and a 300gb hard drive which has been working wonderful with no conflicts. When restarting after a software update, I noticed on the start up screen that it restarted in "safe mode". I checked for a stuck shift key and of course they were just fine. I thought it might be a heat problem because the next day I started it back up and it started normally so I ran disk utility to make sure. The next time I started, no matter if it was cool or warm, it went straight to "safe mode" just for grins, I backed up all my information onto an external drive and attempted to re-install the 10.4 disk and it went straight to the black "kernel panic" screen. "OK" I said, so I took out the 300gb hard drive all together, installed a freshly "zeroed out" 120gb hard drive that I had and then tried to start it up and it went straight back to the "kernel panic" screen. Next, I not only unplugged the cord but also took out the battery which only then would it start up alright. So now that is the only way that I can get the machine to start up in anything other than "safe mode". At this point, it is a pain in the ass but so far it is working. Does anyone have any idea what I have overlooked or what is wrong? I would really like to use the box but it is just a pain in the a$$ to do this.

A few days ago I updated to Lion 10.7 with which I have had no problem. A day later I installed Moneywiz, Skydrive for mac and did some updates of various software. Since then, if starting from cold, my imac starts in safe mode. I get the start-up sound; then the white screen with Apple logo; then the spinning sun; then the progress bar; then the grey screen with "safe mode" in the top right and user log-in (although I don't have log-in set in my options). Once running in safe mode I can shut-down and re-start; or just re-start and it will load properly. I have tried starting with mouse/keyboard on/off. Is this a Lion thing or what.

my mbp i7's double tap doesn't save when i set it to a certain "double-click speed" so when i put my mbp to sleep or restart it, i'm forced to go back to the settings and set my double-click speed again. The point of me doing this is because for some reason, my double-click doesnt register or hi-light the text in the URL or text in essays etc. when its set up to the fourth notch on the slide bar. so i have to put it down to 0 on the bar in order for my double tap to register. Its really annoying to have to redo this every time i come back to my mbp.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne day I was using my MBP open and external monitor hooked up. Everything was fine until the internet went down suddenly while I was using iChat.
My airport wouldn't see a network and after a couple restarts and a few resets my airport finally connected to my network. Once connected it would only issue a self-assigned IP, which obviously wouldn't work.
I was able to get around this by manually entering in the correct info but the speeds were low at best, usually pausing and stalling every minute.
After frustratingly trying get it to work, I entered clamshell mode because there was no reason at the time to have dual monitors. Once I did, viola, the airport kicked in and started working full force. It's been this way for about a month now.
My laptop is a MacBookPro5,1 with a 2.8 GHz processor and 4 GBs of RAM.
I've read that airports will have serious degradation issues if overheated and while that may be the issue, it doesn't seem to be the case.
I have smcFanControl installed and the MBP seems to be relatively cool to the touch. The fans never seem to be loudly kicking in and I have it raised on a fan powered cooling pad.
I do, though, use pretty much every port on my MBP. External monitor, speakers, both USBs, and firewire 800 are all in use, so maybe this is a resource issue or a very area specific heat issue.
My maccbook pro with Lion (10.7.4) takes 10 min to starts. and every time I restart it tooks more time.
When I bought my macbook it starts in few seconds!!

My MacBook Pro which is only a year old was working fine, the only small problem was that it wouldn't play a video, so I restarted it but it never came back on. I have a 2.2Ghz Macbook Pro 15" (2007) that suddenly can't get past the startup screen and ends up with a kernel panic and the You need to restart message. Happens 100% of the time now. I had Leopard on it when it started kernel panicking. I managed to boot from an external drive and installed Snow Leopard, but it started okay once or twice, then started having the kernel panics at startup again. Tried SMC reset, but no go.
I then tried going back to Tiger, thinking it might be a problem with the RAM. Tiger actually installed okay, and after it worked okay for a bit (2-3 times, maybe half an hour), I tried to install Leopard again. And got only kernel panics. And I can't install Tiger now either.
It occasionally starts up from an external disk that I use for installs (has Leopard and Snow Leopard on it), but that's not 100%. And I can't even get thru an install now. I started up with it in Firewire Disk mode, wiped the drive and cloned a system from my iMac, but even though it seemed to go okay, when I shut it all down and tried to restart the Macbook Pro, I got another kernel panic. Any ideas? I've switched 3-4 different RAM modules, and I don't think they're ALL bad. But no go. I've changed hard drives too.
Seems weird. I mean, it doesn't seem broken, as it starts up, goes thru the startup screen, seems to pause a bit and, instead of going to login, stops with a kernel panic. I assume it's HARDWARE, not software. But hardware problems are usually the RAM, sometimes the hard disk; and if the MBPro doesn't start up at all, then the logic board is probably fried. So what else can cause these kernel panics? A bad keyboard/trackpad (top case)? Bad PRAM battery?
After the screen saver starts (set to go on after 1 hour), my MacBook locks up 90% of the time when I attempt to wake it up. I sometimes hit the trackpad and sometimes I hit command. It is hit or miss on which one will work.
I have to hold the power button to restart it.
I have it plugged in all the time when it's at home. Under energy saver I have both settings set to go asleep after 2.5 hours.
I have no issues when I close the lid to put it to sleep.
Only started recently but my hard drive sometimes starts clicking when being used thoroughly(like when extracting archives) and then it will make one loud click(sounds like when my pc hard drives go to sleep) and the computer has to be restarted. Should I take into the local apple store or see if it gets worse?
