MacBook Pro :: It Is Slow To Respond To "sleep"
Jul 2, 2012Sometimes I have to try a few times to make it go to sleep. Is this a sign of Malware?

View 1 RepliesJust picked a second hand g5 up which runs like a dream! One thing I have noticed recently after putting the machine on sleep is that it takes forever to respond after been woken. The display and desktop come on instantly but when I click a program all I get is the beachball, the hdd doesn't appear to spin up. Then about 5 minutes later you hear the hdd spin up and away we go back to normal. It doesn't do this all the time though!
View 10 Replies View RelatedI managed to get my hands on my new baby last Friday, new MBP 17" i7 with anti-glare! My wife also has a 2009 uMBP 13", which I have been using since Xmas while waiting for Arrandale! I use a stand with a apple wireless keyboard and wireless magic mouse. I have been having problems with the new 17" machine - the mouse and kb work fine for about 30 mins then the mouse gets really slow and jerky and the keyboard gets slow as well and starts displaying double / triple keys when typing etc. The only way to resolve the problem is to reboot. If I unpair the mouse and keyboard and repair this doesnt fix it - only a reboot works. I phoned apple care and they instructed to create a new test user, which I did - same problems.
Reinstalled OSX (machine was only 2 days old though!), and this didnt fix it. So, I took the machine back to my Apple Retail store and swapped it for a new machine. Finally finished setting it up again yesterday, and the problem started AGAIN - So it would seem that unless I have had two faulty machines (highly unlikely) it must be software related? I have been trying to work out what might be causing it - but running the machine without Parallels, Little Snitch, 1 Password, things which I thought could have been related to the problem. I basically ran the same system on my wifes 13" before I got the new machine and I had no problems with the mouse and keyboard. I have also changed the batteries on both the mouse and keyboard.
My 2 year old Macbook pro has started to run really slowly, with the multi coloured pinwheel appearing whenever I try to do something. I've taken this to the Apple store, and have been told that it's either the hard drive that has given up and will need to be replaced, or that it's the cable connecting the hard drive to the laptop.

This has just started happening. If I press the volume buttons they take about 3-4 seconds to respond...if not longer sometimes. Everything else seems to be working even those I'm getting more beach balls than normal. The system is up to date, the issue seems to go away when I restart temporarily.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a 17in Macbook Pro and am finding that when I'm prompted to put in my password, for any reason, it's very slow to respond. This occurs anywhere where I'm prompted for the password. Usually takes between 10 and 30 seconds to respond. I've cleaned up with Onyx. I've not installed any new software.

I'm currently running Snow Leopard an early 2011 Macbook Pro. The laptop also runs Intel's 320 SSD as its primary storage. I've noticed recently that my file system appears to be running slow and by that, I mean if I try to Save a file from the web, save a document from Office, or a photo from Photoshop, the prompt that lets me select where to store the file takes about 10 seconds to pop up. Everything else with the system runs pretty fast. The computer still boots up quickly as an SSD does. Opening programs takes one bounce or so... but the saving a file prompt across the board has been extremely slow.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just got a 15inch MacBook Pro 2.4 i7 quad. The computer is very fast when I just turn it on. If the computer goes to sleep and I wake it up, everything becomes very slow. I believe this is an issue with Lion. Also all the software is up to date. have to turn the computer on and off everytime I want to use it.

Does anyone else notice the MBA takes a long time to reconnect to your wifi network after awaking from sleep? I'd say it takes 10-15 seconds vs. a MBP which takes less than 5 seconds. Not a huge deal, but I'd say it's one of the slowest notebooks I've used to reconnect to a wifi network.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy MBP (about 2 years old, Santa Rosa) is having some major issues both starting up and going into sleep. First off, I'm using 10.5.8, everything's updated, I don't have a bunch of stuff on the startup processes (quicksilver and iTunes helper) and I'm plugged into a power source. When I start my computer (since yesterday) it has been taking an abnormally long time at the grey screen before the Apple, the grey screen with the apple and the rotating wheel, and then it goes to a light blue screen for 5 or so minutes (repeat: minutes) until flashing light and dark blue and finally taking me to the login. Not only that, but my computer will not go to sleep when I close the lid. Instead, the screen turns off and the hard drive and fans keep chugging. What's more annoying is when I then try to open the lid to manually turn it to sleep, the screen won't turn on. This usually requires a hard reset, which then takes 10 minutes to start up.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm hoping I can get some ideas and guidance on this. A few months ago I bought my wife a 17" MBP. At the time we had a D-Link DIR655 Wireless-N router and the MBP worked great with it. If I woke the machine from sleep the reconnection to the wireless network was pretty much instantaneous.
Unfortunately that router started to flake out and I replaced it with what is considered to be a top of the line router, Netgear WNDR3700. This router has a dual N band. One band is N only the other one is B/G/N. I have attached the MBP to both networks.
When the MBP wakes up it takes up to a minute for the wireless to be re-established. Weirdly it will reconnect to the SECOND of the two networks that are listed in priority order on the advanced wireless settings. If I remove either of the two networks and only have one listed, sometimes the MBP will take over a minute to eventually get reconnected.Does anyone have any thought on this? It's very frustrating and I haven't figured out why the reconnection is so slow with this very high end router. All my other wireless devices maintain their connection to the router very well with no drops or reconnects.
why is my iMac slow after sleep ?

This is a phenomenon that I have experienced on a Blue & White G3 and a Gigabit G4, and in OS 9 and OS X: Whenever the hard disk spins down, the mac goes really slow even after it spins back up. I have to set the Energy Saver settings to keep the HD and computer from going to sleep (same result when computer goes to sleep). The problem is only fixed after I restart the machine. Same result with different hard drives as far as I can tell. Does anybody else have any experience with this or any additional explanation?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy new i5 iMac has been really slow after I get out of its screensaver or take it out of sleep. Even if its on the screensaver for a minute, moving the mouse causes it to freeze and try to load the desktop. This takes about a minute before my computer is fully functional again. Also, I don't know if this is just me thinking this or if its actually a problem, but the computer seems a lot slower than my previous, a 24" 3.06Ghz iMac.
Another thing, the fans seem to spin a lot more with this computer. Watching a YouTube or Hulu video makes the fans spin a ton. I've never had that happen with a Mac before. The computer also gets literally too hot to touch. Anybody else have this?
Also, on a (kind of) unrelated note, Windows performance with this is horrible. I've tried Windows 7 and Vista, and both run... adequately. The fans also spin a ton in Vista (what I currently have installed due to there being no 27" drivers for 7 yet).
Background info:
A few weeks ago I upgraded from a regular macbook to a brand new macbook pro 2.66 ghz. I replaced the hard drive right away with a 500gb one (had it done by apple). So my machine runs snow leopard now, I used the data transfer mode to basicly copy the data and apps from my old macbook to the new MBP.
The "problem"
It all worked fine and smooth until a week ago ...For a week now I have a problem that really concerns me. Whenever I open my laptop from a sleep mode he gets really slow and unresponsive to my commands. Its like its crashing, all I can do to get out of this is a hard reboot.
However .. during a reboot OR a cold bootup the MBP gets stuck in the grey screen with only the apple logo .. after a minute or 3 it will start loading but it will never reach the login screen... The strange thing is that when I do reboot it over and over again .. it eventually will boot normally and when it does the MBP runs fine .. until I turn it off or put it in sleep mode .. then the nightmare will start again.
What I have done
I personally suspects the Hard Drive to be the culprit, I get the feeling that the Hard Drive is having trouble starting up or getting out of sleep mode. I am not sure tough.
I have done the following:
- Disc Utility (gives no errors)
- Booting up in terminal and run Disc Utility there (repaired a volume issue)
Could this be a leopard issue? I actually can't remember if this issue happened after the last macOS update or not ..I never had a problem with my iBook and Macbook so I have little experience on troubleshooting. So I hope you more technical experienced users can give me some tips on what to do here.
1. When closing the lid or pressing the power button the computer freezes, the fans start spinning fast it stays like that until it drains the battery. This happens every time.
2. Start-up times are very long, like 3 or 4 minutes. This also happens every time.
3. Now after a fresh snow leopard install it doesn't even start up completely, as it stays showing a light blue background and I can hear the music of the introductory animation.
4. Also, the keyboard is unresponsive at the login screen, but the mouse cursor moves and the display goes to sleep normally. Clicking anywhere with the mouse also produces no effect.
5. It seems to work OK in safe mode.
The macbook worked ok with the factory installed Tiger. The SL DVD is OK, as its installation has been tested on another Mac. The machine's advanced hardware test passed successfully. Resetting Pram and SMC did not solve the problem.
I just ran the latest firmware update for my 2011 mac book pro and after it installed it now won't start up, only getting to the gray screen before freezing there.
I've tried all the on line solutions I can find on Apple's site, but no luck.

So my regular cd-rom/burner died immediately after my warranty was up, so I went on ebay about bought this $65 superdrive:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...lenotsupported
I took my macbook apart, managed to crack the keyboard in the process (tack on another $50), and eventually swapped out the drive. Before I reassembled everything I booted it up and the drive took my cd and played it on itunes. So, I put it all back together, every little friggin screw, except like 4 and now the drive won't respond. I can hear it spinning when it boots, but when I log in there's nothing. There's a cd in it, and I can't eject it. When I hit eject, nothing happens, not even the little graphic that appears on the screen. I know its still connected because I hear it spin on start up.
My MacBook pro (15" unibody, non-removable battery) will not turn on. The battery claims to be fully charged. The computer will not respond to the power button in any way. I had turned it on previously by draining the battery completely of any charge (draining power, then pressing and holding down power button for 60 seconds). When this occurred the computer booted up and ran fine. However, when I closed the lid, it turned off immediately, never to return. I'm wondering if this is a problem with the battery, or if it's a problem with the logic board.
Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)
Macbook Air 11" - 2012 running Lion.
The period and the comma keys appear to be "dead" - not responding, also not when shift or other keys pressed simultaneous.
All other keys appear to function as usual. There was no prior incident - they simply stopped working all of a sudden.

Working on a final draft and the program stopped responding, it's been about an hour, will it ever start responding again? Do I have to quit the program and lose everything or is there a way of saving this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo a friend spilled some liquids on his new macbook pro 13 5,5.Unibody The keyboard no longer worked, the hd was fried, so he gave it to me and switched to PC's . I replaced the HD, and connected an external keyboard.
Luckily nothing else was effected and it powered up. What I find strange is that the back light still works although NONE of the keys do. The power button and the trackpad still work as well.
I have accepted that I have to purchase a costly top case, but could i not just replace the keys?
I searched the forum about this and found nothing. The bottom edge (a few mm) of the trackpad doesn't respond to touches. Is that normal and how it's supposed to be?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed the firmware update for my MacBook and when I restarted the keyboard and mouse were both unresponsive. Even my USB wireless mouse wouldn't work. I am probably going to take it into an Apple Store tomorrow. Oh, and also I booted Windows and my trackpad and keyboard are working fine (How I'm writing this now). Being the retard I am I guess I might have held the power button down. I tried taking the battery out and holding the power key for 10 secs - no use. I tried turning the MacBook on and holding down select+command+P+R (constant boot) - no use.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA colleague of mine's MacBook Air (rev b) has suddenly started having an issue with its keyboard - the middle row of keys doesn't response. She has tried rebooting, etc, and the problem continues. No liquid has spilled on the keyboard, and there's no aesthetic reason.
So this morning I woke up and went to press the power button of my Macbook, but nothing happened. I noticed that there is no white IR light and the fan doesn't respond. I checked the battery, it was at full. The power cable was also green when i plugged it into the Macbook. However, it still wouldn't turn on.
Just a general comment, I use the Macbook as a printer server and to browse the internet, so nothing intensive is forced onto the Macbook. So then I tried resetting the SMU, didn't work. I tried turning it on with only battery , and then with only power source, both didn't work either.I have never spilled anything on this macbook, never dropped it, smashed it, or abused it in any way. However, it is 2 years old and I never bought Applecare (Usually, if something is defective, it will show within the first 30 days). I assume it's a logic board failure, and it's going to cost around 700 to fix (which i'd rather just get a new macbook).
I was wondering if anybody know of a reason why the logic board broke, or if there is any remedies that i haven't tried yet? Also, I'm thinking of pawning it off on ebay and then save up and wait for the Macbook Pro refresh. Does anyone have an estimate on how much I can get for a broken Macbook (screen is fine, 4gb of ram (i might replace it w/ 2gb instead) 250 gb HD (might replace with 80gb HD instead), 2.0 ghz c2d (prbly useless cuz the logic board is fried)
