Does anyone else notice the MBA takes a long time to reconnect to your wifi network after awaking from sleep? I'd say it takes 10-15 seconds vs. a MBP which takes less than 5 seconds.Not a huge deal, but I'd say it's one of the slowest notebooks I've used to reconnect to a wifi network.
View 11 RepliesI finally got my mid 2011 MBA to connect to my preferred network when waking from sleep. It is something you may have read elsewhere but I can confirm it worked for me. You have to disable the "deep sleep mode". When a Air goes into deep sleep is when (for me) it failed to wake my network back up. I switched off deep sleep and not only does it wake up faster it wakes up connected to the Wi-fi network. How do you turn off deep sleep? Using the terminal commandÂ

If you are like me you may say what is a terminal command? Go to spotlight (that magnifying glass icon top right corner of your screen) and type terminal. Click the Terminal next to Applications. Copy paste the command I posted above and supply your password if you have one. What this does is disables the deep sleep mode that the Air's use for maximum battery life while left sleeping and on battery. This is why my Air always connected to wi-fi when it was plugged in to power, because it never enters deep sleep when on external power. Now the computer goes to sleep and wakes up as intended and no more turning airport on and off to start wi-fi back up. Try for yourself and if it does not work...your Air is broken (I guess). Â
If it did not work and you want to put the computer back to the way it was go back to terminal as above and then copy and paste this command back in.Â
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3Â Â
In case you worried your computer now does not sleep, it does. It goes into plain sleep mode as the old Macbooks that awoke just fine used to do.

I have a pretty old Titanium Mac Book that runs OS 10.3.9. It's a moderately slow machine, but still works- and although I realize that it won't be able to stream video or anything, I figure it would work for email, and basic web browsing- But I'm wondering if it's going to be compatible with any new products such as a USB wifi antenna - because the room where I want to use it won't alow for an ethernet connection-  Also, will the old 10.3.9 OS allow me to connect wifi to the newer airport extreme base stations?Â

I don't know what's wrong with it.My ipod touch connects just fine and yet when i try to connect my new macbook it won't allow me to connect.I've never owned a macbook - so i have no idea how to fix this.
I currently have the network setup assistant running and configuring - but it's been about an hour and it hasn't done anything.Is there something else i need to do?
It is on my home network which I have been using for months. I have made no changes to my router or network setting. Other devices will still connect to the wifi with no problem and I connect through the ethernet connection with no problem. I have disabled the wifi and restarted my computer with no luck.

I am not sure if this is related to the other wifi issues posted on this thread. I am hoping it is an easy Leopard configuration thing. But my wifi used to work perfect--until I patched my OS version. Now, whenever open the lid, it can never connect to my wifi router immediately like it used to do. It spends cycles hunting, and I end up having to manually go into network preferences and try a few times to connect, including rekeying the password.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an aluminum Macbook on a wireless network. My network is configured as follows: In the area covered by the AP, I have the Macbook and an old, busted PC. The PC works fine, and internet is as fast as if it was plugged in. The mac says it has full signal, but the internet speed varies greatly. This Macbook tends to show full bars even when the signal is weak, though. Sometimes it loads pages fast, sometimes, it takes almost a full minute to load pages. While I haven't tested it on many other networks, it appears to work fine elsewhere. Anyone have any idea what the problem is? It's almost as if the Macbook isn't connecting to the AP and is connecting straight to the main router which is far away. As I was typing this post, the Macbook completely lost wifi signal.
View 10 Replies View RelatedEvey time it goes to sleep or I turn it off it forgets the fact that there is any wireless around. I have to look for the networks. Then if it wants to will find them and trying to connect to my own wireless network (apple extreme) is a challenge. I do have parallel desktop installed, could that be the problem?

There is a problem of a periodic signal loss. The reason for this is the password reset network settings in the airport. It happens randomly during sleep. The system log says only connect and disconnect from the network. What may be the reason?

I just got a 15inch MacBook Pro 2.4 i7 quad. The computer is very fast when I just turn it on. If the computer goes to sleep and I wake it up, everything becomes very slow. I believe this is an issue with Lion. Also all the software is up to date. have to turn the computer on and off everytime I want to use it.

I'm beginning to wonder if Apple put a lousy Airport card in the new MBA. No matter what the wifi hotspot, I get downloads of 2MB. I just bought a new Airport Extreme at home and I really thought the MBA would be faster.
Am I missing something here? Do I have to "match up" the MBA with my Extreme to use the fast "N" connection? Or is there some network setting to tweak on the new MBA?
I've just set up my MBA, right out of the box - everything is going well apart from it take ages to copy files from my G5 to the MBA, over my WiFi connection.
A 33.6MB file has just taken 45 mins!
I'm doing nothing differently from when I used my very old (5 years) G4 PowerBook to transfer content. As a quick test, I've just transferred the same file to that lap top in about 15 seconds.
A few weeks ago I noticed my internet running incredibly slow on one side of my room. This side being the farthest from the router. To my knowledge nothing new had happened enviromently to cause this problem. I went through the motions of reseting my router and still the problem persits. I decided to take in my Macbook Pro into the Genius Bar and they replaced the Airport and Bluetooth components. Today I finally got it back and quickly my enthusiasim was dashed to find out that I'm still haivng the same problem. I'm only having this problem on my Macbook Pro since I have both a Nexus S android phone and an Asus Transformer tablet that runs perfectly fine on that side, well all sides, of my room.

I'm experiencing very slow speeds on my new Macbook Air 13" mid 2012. For example when I'm transferring files from my NAS, a Qnap TS-259 Pro+, wirelessly through my D-Link DIR 855 router. I barely reach speeds around 1MB/s. If I use my Windows 7 laptop, that sits right next to my Mac, to transfer the exact same file I get constant speeds around 6MB/s. That's six times faster.Â
Is there a known issue with the wifi that I've missed?Â
I did some further testing to try and identify the cause of the wifi problem. I installed Windows 7 in Parallels and transferred the exact the same files once again. Here's where it becomes interesting. Transferring those same files on my Macbook, using Windows 7 under Parallels, the speed was the same as it was on my physical Windows 7 machine, i.e. a constant speed of around 6MB/s. I then switched back to Mac OSX again and the speed once again decreased to around 1MB/s.

i just got my 2012 Retina MBP and i absolutely love it. there's one problem though. wifi is EXTREMELY slow.
we have a campus-wide 802.11n network, all my other devices work flawlessly.
can i somehow force my MBP NOT to use the 5 GHz band but to stay at 2.4 GHz? I believe i somewhere read that this could fix the problem. ethernet via thunderbolt works as supposed.

I have the original 1st generation Core Duo MacBook, and I'm having some trouble with the wifi. Often, when I go to a new location like to a library or a friend's house, I won't be able to connect to the wifi (it will timeout) or it will connect, but the signal strength will be very weak or the internet will be very slow.
It's not that it's out of range, I'm in an area that's known to have wifi and others around me can pick it up fine with full strength. At home, my wifi works fine, but the router is in the same room I use the computer in.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro has been great since I got it last June. Recently I just did an software update that I believe included something with the wifi/airport setting. Now I cannot connect to ANYTHING. My work wifi network I can connect with my iPhone and others have connected to my "puck" wifi from CLEAR. I have ruled out that the connections I am trying to connect to are the problem. When I try to connect with my MBP I it tries and then gets greyed out in the top with the exclamation point. It says:Â

When I have tried to "fix" using the normal processes when clicking on it it says it cannot help me. I have researched and cleared the network settings in the keychain access. There was another thing that said to delete the apps.apple.alf.pfile or something like that but when I went to the area in Library/Preferences that file didnt exist. I need my Macbook to access the Internet.Â

I have a MacBook Air that is refusing to connect to the home network. The MacBook is a late 2011 model 3,1 core 2 duo, 4Gb RAM 128Gb SSD connecting to a virgin media super hub. Tried the hub with and without enabled security. Sometime the MacBook sees the hub when you try to connect it immediately errors with could not join..... A network timeout occurred. Â The Bluetooth seems to be just as flaky. Won't connect to my iPhone?Thinking the wifi/Bluetooth card may be dodgy. Â

I have a MacBook Air. WIFI has been working just fine, until yesterday, after I turned it off to use a LAN network via USB adapter. Ever since I have not been able to reconnect via WIFI, and I get the message (that a lot of people get) of "wifi has the sel-assigned IP address and will not connect to the Internet." I've tried restart, shut-down and wait, tossed preferences, removed preferred networks, renewed DHCP Lease, all repeatedly, but to no avail.Â
the strange thing was, today I was somewhere that had 801.11g and 801.11n networks, and I was able to connect on the g network, but not on n. And what was more strange, was that the same Ethernet Lan connection I used yesterday no longer allows me to connect to the Internet, even though the sidebar says Ethernet was connected and showed green light.Â
At the same time my iPhone and iPad can both connect to any of the networks.Â
Just bought my daughter a 13.6" 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro, and it connects fine to my Apple TimeCapsule in 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz mode with no issues using DHCP. However, when my daughter brings the laptop to her mother's house, and attempts to connect it to her Cisco 2Wire160 (802.11g using WEP) router with DHCP, it doesn't connect. She can select the router, but it doesn't prompt for a password.
When she goes into System Preferences -> Network, WiFi say something about a self-assigned IP address of 169.x.x.x., when that router is chosen.
If I have her delete the router from Advanced in the Preferred Network section, and then connect to any of the neighbor's routers, she's immediately prompted for a password. Attempting to re-connect to the 2Wire160, still doesn't prompt for a password.
I received my new Macbook Pro 13 inch on Wednesday this week. I was so excited to get it, however, it's not all been rosy!!! I turned it on and expecting it to connect to my wifi straight away but oh no, it was having none of it. I tried for 3 hours to figure out a way to connect it but it wouldn't work.I have since tried again yesterday and today but still no joy.It can't be the router as our iphones are connected to it fine.

This is driving me crazy. I have tried so many fixes but nothing has worked. Every time I hibernate / sleep my 2012 macbook air, the wifi drops and takes at least 20 minutes to come back on when I open the laptop again.Â

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am a new Mac user with a new Mac book pro. The Mac was connecting to wifi until today. Today I added another wifi connection through mifi hauwaei modem. Since then I cannot connect to my old wifi access point. It connects but not getting the Internet or get to the router using 192.168.2.1. I can still connect to my mifi. My iPhone, iPad and other laptops can connect to my old access point with out any issues. I use zyxel router as my old access point.

Well I've had mine for about 3 yrs now and this problem with airport wifi connection has progressively been getting worse over the last yr. I took the MacBook in last week and they wanted �170 to put in a new network card and antena. Bit much I think.! So they told me I could buy a �35 USB wifi dongle thing.
