OS X V10.7 Lion :: Apple Mail Resizing PDFs And Masking Attachments

Feb 7, 2012

So I designed some art for someone in Illustrator, made a PDF, and sent it onto them in email as an attachment.   They got it in Apple mail.   Immediately they contacted me back.  "The PDF I sent them is the wrong size".  (it was meant to be business card size).

It seems Apple mail "did them a favor" of showing them the PDF contents inline to their document.   OK no problem there, BUT...

#1.  It looks wrong size.  When they printed it out on paper, it printed wrong size, adding confusion and delay.

#2.  Apple Mail actively hid the fact that this was an attachment.  (as opposed to rich-content mail, i.e. a JPEG inline.)  There was no visual indication that it was an attachment, no way to "peel it off" and get to a "save as..." box.   There WAS a paperclip icon (which generally means attachment) but it did something totally different and unrelated.  I couldn't even tell her how to save it to a file.

I told the person "Just forward it to your publisher on faith that it's correct" but that really doesn't cut it.  Heck I'm not even sure the forward carried the attachment along.  There's just no way to tell.

So is there a way I can send mail to this person so it is easier to work with? OS X Lion Mail.

OS X :: Shortcut For Automatically Resizing Windows To Fit Screen?

Dec 3, 2009

Is there a shortcut in Mac OS X that resizes two or more open windows automatically so that each window is shown on the screen simultaneously? For example, I want to have a safari window open and a word document open so that one half of the screen is showing safari and the other half is word. I know I can resize them manually but I was wondering if there is a shortcut or a third party utility that resizes any open windows to fit the entire screen? This would be useful, for example, with the new 27 inch iMacs where the wide screen can easily display three (or more) windows side by side utilizing the entire screen area; having them resized automatically would be more productive than having to resize them manually.

Applications :: Save PDF Attachments From Mail Messages Automatically?

Oct 20, 2009

I find this maddening and have searched high and low for help, so hopefully you've got an answer.

In my Mail.app I have two accounts, one for personal email and one for work email. I also have a local mailbox titled "Submitted Forms." I receive forms from coworkers as PDFs in my work email account. I have a Mail rule established so that any email coming into my work email account meeting certain criteria (having an attached form, specified by name) is moved to the local mailbox "Submitted Forms." That all works fine. What I am trying to achieve, ideally using an applescript run by the rule, is to have any message that gets moved into that mailbox save its attachment to the desktop (or other destination folder). I have tried over a dozen similar-but-different example applescripts I've found online that claim to do this, but none seem to work. I've also tried tweeking each one with my limited knowledge of applescript to no avail. It really cannot be that hard for the computer to say "hey, there's a new message in that folder, I'll save its PDF to my desktop." Can it?

This is the basics of my goal. Ideally, the applescript/rule/computer would add the Received Date to the attachment name and would know whether it had already saved a given email's attachment(s), so as to reduce overwriting, possibly through read-status or flagging.

Software :: Hidden Attachments - Mail Application On The Mac To Recognize That There Are Attachments In The Email

Jan 11, 2009

I'm using MacOSX and Mac Mail. The cub scouts send a weekly newsletter via Scouttrack. When I view this on the Mac, I cannot see any attachments; it's like they are not there at all. When I view it from Outlook on a PC, it doesn't show the little paper clip, but when I open the email, then I can see that the attachments are there.

Is there any way to get the mail application on the Mac to recognize that there are attachments in the email??

MacBook Air :: Excel Office 2011- No Standard Toolbar And Resizing Windows

Dec 1, 2010

Two strange issues that I can't fix on my new MB Air 13 with MS Office for MAC 2011 and Excel.

1) I can't get the Standard Toolbar to show up when I open a new worksheet. I go to view, toolbars and then see that the Standard Toolbar is checked, but it doesn't show up. The only way to get it to show up is to do a series of steps:
- uncheck Standard Toolbar menu and go back out;
- go back in and check the Standard Toolbar and back to the spreadsheet
- the Standard Toolbar still doesn't show up;
- so then I click on the Layout tab on the ribbon and then it shows up!

2) I can't see the bottom of the window/spreadsheet - which means I can't resize the window. To resolve this, I have to do these steps:
- open system preferences and change my MBA screen resolution from 1440 x 900 down to 1280 x 800
- then go back to the spreadsheet, and resize the window (make it smaller on the screen)
- go back and resize the window back to 1440 x 900
- and then close the system preferences at this point, the Excel spreadsheet window is smaller and I can see/use the bottom of the screen to resize, etc.

Can't figure out what setting I have wrong or why I can't get Excel for Mac 2011 to work correctly on the MB Air screen.

Applications :: Won't Find Features That Are Missing In IMail

Nov 13, 2010

I switched to a MacBook Pro 3 months ago from using WXP with Outlook 2003.

I need to be able to hold my outgoing mail rather then sending it immediately. In Outlook I could set it to stay in the outbox until I was ready to send it.

I'd also like to have the "capitalize the first word of each sentence" feature that Word edit would do in Outlook.

I am presuming neither of these features are in iMail so my question is: Do I need to buy Outlook for Mac or Office for Mac to get these 2 features?
