Sometimes when I turn my iMac on, it'll start doing its thinglight comes on, chime goes, fan whirrs, but then it'll make a strange click/"werrrrh" noise and turn off. It's happened twice to me since I've brought it home from school and each time I just tilted the monitor around while turning it on and it worked.I have been avoiding turning off / restarting my computer because I'm afraid its going to happen and I won't be able to get past it.Could the powersupply be loose or something?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOkay...so I'm literally going crazy. My father ripped a bunch of dvds of mine using his pc (I haven't converted him...yet!) with DVDfab Platinum. I'm working on backing up my movies on hard drive and I have tried to rip them to my Macbook with MTR as well as burning them with Popcorn.
I have never had any difficulty with either program except when it comes to trying to re-rip these dvds copied on pc first. It doesn't seem logical that this can be a pc to mac problem...but who knows? MTR shuts down immediately when trying to rip the movie. Popcorn won't burn the TS file from the DVD or an image file of the DVD. I'm lost. Does anyone have any suggestions...?
Just wondering if anyone has ever encountered this or if any experts out there know of the issue.
I have a spare White Macbook (late 2008: Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz, 1GB, 120GB) that I'd like to set up for my brother to use to introduce him to the wonderful world of Macs. The problem it is having is that when I have a battery connected to it (I tried 2 different ones included a known-good one that is brand-new just purchased from Apple) it powers on and gives me the chime, but then immediately shuts off unexpectedly giving that little "whine" sound like if it just lost power all of a sudden. However, when i take out the battery, and just plug it into the Magsafe AC charger it works fine. Also when just trying to run on battery it does not turn on at all. Here's some cliffs:
1) Macbook with just battery does not turn on
2) Macbook with battery + Magsafe AC charger connects powers on, gives the chime, but then immediately shuts off making the "whine" sound as if the power was suddenly cut off
3) Macbook with no battery connected and just the Magsafe AC charger connected works fine.
Do you guys think this is either:
A) battery connector issue (the little piece with the metal wires that the battery connects to. ~$50 part)
B) Logic Board issue
I already tried resetting the PRAM and SMU to no avail.
I just finished downloading Mac OS X 10.7.3 update and tried to open Safari after two restarts with no luck. Whaddddup?

I haven't installed any plug ins, altered the accounts, or done anything different in mail today. For some reason, it all of the sudden stopped opening - can't even get a main screen up when I launch it. I've tried deleting plists, holding shift on start up, checked for any problematic mail being downloaded via my iPad, repaired permissions and even tried to launch yesterday's version from Time machine. I've tried opening Mail without being on the internet too. I have an exchange account and a mobile me account on there, and both have been working perfectly until today. I have a 2009 Unibody Macbook Pro running 10.6.4. My crash report is almost twice the length of the allowed word count so can't post it - is there a specific section I should cut and paste?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with the program Gamesalad. I downloaded the 0.9 version and when I try to open it immediately comes up with the crash reporter. I had a backup of the older version so I'm just using that until I find a solution. I asked this on there forums but didn't get any answers. Also on there website it says in the requirements that you need 1GB of RAM, does this mean that you need 1gb available or just in general 'cause I have 2gb and 1.01gb active with just my browser, itunes and older gamesalad open.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm using an iMac(seen in sig.) and I had installed Photoshop, and while of course a little slow due to Rosetta it worked. Then maybe a week ago, it just seemed to stop opening up and crashing immediately. I'm running OSX 10.4.8, everything is properly updated and I've reinstalled photoshop a few times to no avial. The problem didn't seem to occur after any change, I might have just not noticed it though.

I just bought a 15-inch MacBook Pro with the 2.5GHz Quad-core Intel i7 Processor and the non-glare LED screen. I'm really impressed with the computer overall, which I purcahsed mostly with the intent of using for light-moderate video editing.
Ironically, whenever I open iMovie or iPhoto, the screen does this funny thing where it looks like it's interlacing only half of the full screen image and has a funny tint to it. Is there anything that I can do to prevent this from happening? It happens with and without the power adapter plugged it.

Since upgrading, I can see thumbnails of my pictures in iphoto, but opening them just shows a triangle with an exclamation point.

Where is the setting to stop iPhoto from opening up when I insert an SD card or connect a camera?
View 2 Replies View RelatedEverytime I open up iPhoto, I get this message that says: "A photo has been found in the iPhoto library that was not imported. Would you like to import it? No button and Yes button appear at the bottom of the message box. Sometimes it does it twice. If I say yes, then when iPhoto finishes opening up, there is an album (or two) at the bottom of my album list called "Recovered Photos" but they are empty. I have to manually go through this and then delete them everytime I open up iPhoto. I know in the grand scheme of things this doesn't harm my use of iPhoto or my existing photos, it just accumulates into being a bug and a diversion that I have to get used to dealing with. I thought I left adjusting to those buggy pains in the a$$ behind when I left Windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to open my iPhone movies in iMovie so I can edit them in there. I know that I need to import my video into iPhoto and then from there open it in iMovie, but that is where I am stuck. I can import into iPhoto, but how do I then open it in iMovie. I opened the file which opened in Quicktime and then I saved the file on my desktop and from there opened it in iMovie, but the resulting upload to Youtube was very poor quality even though it should have been 720p.

downloaded Serif last night to my new iMac and have since been told it's not Mac compatible. OK, fine, but how do I uninstall it as I think it's stopping me from opening iPhoto, as iPhoto thinks that something else is running... new to Mac, so this is all a little complex to me
View 4 Replies View RelatedCalibre enabled me to stop iTunes from opening every time I connected my iPad, but since Yosemite, it's now iPhoto that opens every time we're joined. I don't understand iPhoto, which never wants to do anything I want it to, so I almost never use it. Not only that, it takes an age to fully open while it tries to read photos from my iPad, the Cloud and probably from the Other Side.
I am guessing this might be connected with iCloud, but I want to stop it. I've looked at iPhoto's Preferernces, I've looked at a number of things in System Preferences, but so far I can't stop this automatic opening.

I'm still new to Macs, how can I just have it shutdown immediately instead of waiting 60 seconds or clicking shutdown again?

I have a macbook pro 17" I upgraded to leopard a few weeks ago. Like it does normally, it asks if i would like to do a software update. It gave me five things which needed the update. I run the updates. It restarts and runs updates 1-5 restarted itself it seemed kinda glitchy cause it didnt come on right away. Once it was to the loggin screen; i log in (right password) and then after loading my desktop it logs me out. After repeatedly trying to log in and stay logged in, it logs me out continuously. I've reset the PRAM and the SMC but still it logs me out as soon as it loads the desktop.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook does not sleep immediately, I have already tried removing safe sleep and it gives me no effect. It is not a hardware problem as my Windows Vista on the Machine sleeps just how I would like it. For info, the Hard Drive that is in it (320GB WD Scorpio Black) was used in an EFI Hackintosh install for my MSI Wind (but EFI installs do not modify the main operating system so I do not know what the heck is causing this)? By the way, the MacBook is custom, made by me. I built it out of three dead MacBooks.
One Black Core duo which was stepped on and had a broken screen and hinges which gave me:
Only working Logic board of the Pack (2.0GHZ Core Duo) I paid 140$ for this one
2 512MB sticks (Removed one and added a 1GB Stick, yes I know matched pairs, gonna find another 1GB soon)
Bottom case.
Top lid
Half the keys for the keyboard.
The Second MacBook Free:
2.0GHZ Core Duo white gave me with coffee spilled on it
Top case with trackpad, and half of the keys
Bezel
Hinges
Screen
other screws etc.
Fan (The one inside was going clack clack clack)
One 2.2GHZ Core 2 Duo which a dog peed on, Free for getting data off of:
DVD-R Drive one that was in it wouldn't eject
Sleep Light, the one that was there originally was borked and did not light, and IR did not work. Now it does
alternative screen with no pressure marks like the one I have now but one noticeable 1/2 inch scratch.
Various screws.
I am yet to finish it. I am still prototyping the new top screen assembly using the Black lid, a red apple, and the screen with a scratch on it, and the bezel from the 2.2GHZ which is really beat up. The current top assembly is straight from the 2.0GHZ White. Here's a pic of it in it's current state.
Put a CD into my 2007 MacBook Pro today to find it immediatly ejected it without even trying to read it. Happens with all disks. I've had a similar problem where it would fail to read disks & eject them after about 20 seconds, that turned out just to be a dusty laser, this is different, takes about 5 seconds before ejecting.

I've had a late 2011 Macbook Pro for about 4 mths and all of a sudden the trackpad has developed some problems. If I swipe a page it won't allow me to scroll up or down again on the new page that I have swiped too, it freezes. At times when I activate the back button nothing happens and I have to exit out of the site when the page freezes. The scroll only freezes immediately after swiping and not at other times when I'm moving up and down the screens.
