Applications :: Opening File In IMovie From IPhoto?
Jul 9, 2010
I want to be able to open my iPhone movies in iMovie so I can edit them in there. I know that I need to import my video into iPhoto and then from there open it in iMovie, but that is where I am stuck. I can import into iPhoto, but how do I then open it in iMovie. I opened the file which opened in Quicktime and then I saved the file on my desktop and from there opened it in iMovie, but the resulting upload to Youtube was very poor quality even though it should have been 720p.

I just bought a 15-inch MacBook Pro with the 2.5GHz Quad-core Intel i7 Processor and the non-glare LED screen. I'm really impressed with the computer overall, which I purcahsed mostly with the intent of using for light-moderate video editing. Â
Ironically, whenever I open iMovie or iPhoto, the screen does this funny thing where it looks like it's interlacing only half of the full screen image and has a funny tint to it. Is there anything that I can do to prevent this from happening? It happens with and without the power adapter plugged it.
Info:
MacBook
Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Non-glare, high-res screen

How to get IMovie to recognize that I changed the dates of movie clips that I had to import into IPhoto. Subsequently I deleted an event in IPhoto and the darn thing still appeared in IMovie so that option of just deleting and starting all over again seems not to work. (I did not go into trash and really delete it so IMovie might just follow the clips to Trash!) I happened to find that in the Iphoto Library is a file called IMovie Data (In Thumbnails file folder). If I delete that file, will it cause IMovie to regenerate the thumbnails and put all of my photos and clips in the data order I now have corrected in IPhoto?
Info:iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), IPhoto and IMove are 9

Alright, so every time I try to open iMovie '09 (8.0.5) on Snow Leopard (10.6.2) all it does is bounce in the dock never to open no matter how long I wait. I deleted EVERY possible file related to iMovie, repaired disk permissions, scoured through my quicktime codecs to see if there is anything unusual, inserted my applications dvd, re-installed iMovie entirely and it still bounces endlessly. Glad I wasted my time. I'm on the verge of doing a clean install of Snow Leopard since this is really starting to piss me off and I just want to get the problem resolved. Am I missing something here? Why is this not opening even after I clear every cache/plist/whatever file related to iMovie? Every other iLife program I have is opening perfectly fine. Someone please make some sense of this. Also keep in mind that it was working perfectly fine the day prior.

Made the mistake of emptying the camera memory before importing the movie files into imovie. Now I can't get the videos to import into imovie. This is quite annoying. Have looked at the web and people suggest converting them but then you lose quality- is that correct?

I am running iMovie '09 (8.0.6) and iPhoto '09 (8.1.2) running on a late 2007 iMac with Snow Leopard (10.6.3).
I have dozens of avi format videos imported from my point and shoot digital camera in the iPhoto library and iMovie used to be able to see them. Not any more. It now recognizes only a handful from a couple of years back.

Everytime I open up iPhoto, I get this message that says: "A photo has been found in the iPhoto library that was not imported. Would you like to import it? No button and Yes button appear at the bottom of the message box. Sometimes it does it twice. If I say yes, then when iPhoto finishes opening up, there is an album (or two) at the bottom of my album list called "Recovered Photos" but they are empty. I have to manually go through this and then delete them everytime I open up iPhoto. I know in the grand scheme of things this doesn't harm my use of iPhoto or my existing photos, it just accumulates into being a bug and a diversion that I have to get used to dealing with. I thought I left adjusting to those buggy pains in the a$$ behind when I left Windows.

I've takes some videos with my digital camera. When I connect it to my Mac, iPhoto opens up and imports them, and I have all the videos in their own event.
When I open up iMovie 08 to edit these clips, they do not show up in the event library under iPhoto videos.

My iPhoto Videos are appearing in iMovie '09 with the wrong dates and times, but the dates and times in iPhoto are correct. Rather than adjust the info manually, is there a way of correcting it?

Anyone know if this is known problem? I have loads of my video imported directly into iPhoto (I have compact camera which takes photos and video). When in iMovie I click on 'iphoto Videos' in the 'event library pane' and after a lot of thinking iMovie crashes!

I have been working on a file for days, and my Mac crashed. How do I open the file from IMovie? I have been backing it up to an external drive and I'm not able to open that one either. I've deleted the preference file, but that didn't help.

When exporting my videos the file sizes are coming up at around 100mb. I've around 50 videos to fit on 1 DVD.
Does anyone know how to reduce the file size? Is there a free converter? I've tried going from Large to Medium but it's not as great as I'd hoped.

I need a free converter that will convert a WMV file into a file that iMovie will recognize. Also, an application that won't leave a watermark on the video.

I want to put my movies which are on tapes on my mac without it breaking it up into separate scenes. I just want one big file. Is there a setting to do this? Or is IMovie not the program to do this?

I have been given a ~400 slide Powerpoint Presentation, and need to extract all the text from it.
However, when trying to open it in Powerpoint 2004, it just quits everytime it attempts to open the 90Mb file.
Keynote has had more success, but I really do not want to be copying and pasting every slide into a document.

Had the Macbook for a few months now and Apple TV for a year or so. Just upgraded to iMovie 09 and thought I would put a few of my 720P video files together to make a holiday video. All went well until it came to outputting to my Apple TV in a format it likes? I seem to be able to out .mov, but for reasons unknown Apple have decided the ATV won't support this, slowly understanding that the whole "Apple" family of gadgets may well not be as compatible and wonderful as they first appeared.

I have some .numbers files that I need a friend to look at on her pc with Excel 2003 SP3, but it's not working for her. I have changed the extension to .xls but it's no good, as when she tries to open them they are all gobbledegook.
Here's a snapshot of the various files I have, but notice how the icons for each is different, or rather that there are two distinct designs? Some of them DO open in Excel, but some do not.

get video recorded from my cell phone (motoroala Hint) imported into imovie so I can edit the video and merge clips. The file extension of the video file is .3g2 . Quicktime will play this video, but imovie apparently does not support it. I have found a number of different video apps by searching forums (iskysoft imedia converter, handbreak, mpeg streamclip, applemacsoft video converter) of which only iskysoft imedia converter does what I want to do. The only problem is the trial version does not convert audio and has "evaluation copy" imprinted into the video. The full version costs $50

So I literally just spent hours putting together a video for school. I exited out of iMovie knowing it was supposed to save the file on its own. I open it back up to check on it and *poof* it's completely gone. I searched my hardrive and the file exists but it will not open with iMovie or Quicktime. Is there any way to recover this video?

Started archiving all my old photos and creating dvds. started off using iphoto which is great for compiling a quick slideshow to a couple of music tracks. i then imported these to idvd and created my first dvd project which i was pretty pleased with for a first attempt. The only thing i found annoying was that i could not link all the slideshows together in idvd so that they played one after another, instead you had to come back to the menu and start the next one...so i thought i would import these slideshow movies into imovie and create a complete movie with chapters, titles etc. but when i did this i noticed that the quality of the slideshow in imovie was very noticeably worse.
being new to mac i wasnt sure what was up so i thought about importing the photos directly into imovie and working with them there. but once again the quality was really poor compared to the iphoto and idvd slideshows. after this i though maybe its just a preview problem and all will be well when i burn them to dvd and watch them on tv...so i burnt a dvd with one slideshow created in iphoto and imported into idvd and also put on a movie of the same slide show that id imported into imovie and back.
anyway long story short quality still better in slide show created in iphoto.

My digital camera takes short movie clips in .avi file format, and I want to be able to edit them in iMovie, but it won't let me open AVI files. I don't have the pro version of QT6 or I'd just convert it to some other format... When I got info on it in QT Player the video track format is "Motion JPEG OpenDML" and the audio is just uncompressed 8khz mono audio. Anyone know how to get iMovie to open this or a third party program to convert this to something iMovie can read?

I use iPhoto to manage my photos. Nothing fancy, mainly family photos. In the past I have been creating a new library for each year. I'm now been presented with a project that I am working on that makes this practice rather cumbersome. I have been tinkering with the idea of merging all my libraries, but I wonder about the file size. Each library is about 4 GB in size, so a merged one would be about 20 GB. Is that too big in practice? Basically I would like to get an idea of how big is too big for an iPhoto Library to get, or what some of y'all use for management of libraries in practice.
