I just got a new MBP i7, and whenever the graphics switch from the Nvidia 330m chip to the Intel chip, the screen "flickers" black for a short moment before reappearing. Can anyone with a new MBP comment on this behavior? It doesn't happen on the switch from Intel->Nvidia, just the other way around.

there are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.

So I have a MacBook circa 2007, running Lion (10.7.3). Over the past day or so it has develeoped a problem where upon opening it, the screen will come on for a moment, then go dark. Nothing will respond - it's unclear whether it's completely off or it's like the brightness is turned all the way down and I can't turn it back up. I have to force shut down with the power button, then turn it back on again. Typically once I log in nothing will load, so I have to force shutdown and start up again, at which point I'll get a dialog saying "You shut down your computer because of a problem. Would you like to reopen applications," or something to that effect. I choose no, and everything is back to normal (at least until I take a chance with closing it and opening it back up again).

My Macbook is brand new! (Barely 4 months old) Just recently my laptop will flash a black screen. It starts from the bottom and quickly flashes up the screen higher and higher each flash! i have read on some other pages it is a bad inverter on the inner core of the Macbook. Other than that I do not know what to do!

It happened twice in a row about a week ago (and then stopped, so I figured I'd let it go), but it just happened again right now, so I'm figuring there's got to be something else going on. My only guess would be the battery... but I just had that replaced a few months ago, so it seems kind of odd to be having problems already. If it is the battery, how severe of a problem would this be? Is there something I could do to fix it, or can I just live with it until the end of the school year... or do I need to have this fixed ASAP? (And on the off chance that this is a related problem, my speakers have been making that funny crackling/static sound when I wake the computer up from sleep... I was reading some threads about that around here, but to the best of my knowledge the problem was never really resolved.)

I just hooked up a 2nd monitor to my early '08 Mac Pro and when in OSX the screens start to go blank/blue for about 1 second intervals. They flash together sometimes, and other times sort of independantly to each other. When the desktop comes back on it fades in like its animated rather than like its cutting in and out.
It seems fine when I disconnect one monitor.Running 10.5.2 all updates 8 core 2.8ghz with 10gb ram and 8800GT

On my 1st Gen Mac Pro, I suddenly get a strange blue screen out of no where. Everything on the screen freezes for a few seconds then the screen flashes blue for another few seconds. After the screen comes back from the blue, everything works perfectly again. Even when listening to music, music pauses for a few seconds and then comes back. This happens a couple times a week and its getting on my nerves. Sometimes it lasts for a long time and requires a hard restart.
I have tried reinstalling Leopard/tried hardware test/upgraded to the 8800GT video card and the 3870/I cleaned the whole inside of the box with compressed air. I even took her into the apple store and had a genius look at it over night. They told me everything is working perfectly. Ofcourse it started doing it again after I got home with it. The apple store suggested that I could always replace the logic board but they want over $1000.00 for that and I dont know if its worth it.

My external display (HP w2207) seems to conflict with my MacBook Pro (15 inch Retina display, early 2013) since I upgraded MacBook OS to 10.9.4.The external display works at initial boot of Mac but does not work after OS sleeps and I attempt to awaken, and while the external display is not waking, the Retina display flashes through different screen views, which only partially reflect my normal screen, or do not reflect my normal screen at all.Â

[UPDATE]
[Version 3]
Ok well some people thought it was starting to look too generic, which I can agree with. I've tried a new approach, slightly. Some problems with the port placements have stopped me for the moment, but I'll tackle this sometime soon and see if I can work them out.
[Version 2]
Here is an updated version with a few of the suggestions posted, and a few modifications I thought were necessary. I also included some theoretical specifications. Let's keep going! : )
Version 2
[Version 1]
This is my concept of what an apple tablet might look like. This was just for fun. What do you guys think, agree with, disagree with.
Personally I feel that it will run full OS X and therefore I have put the necessary ports. I have also included a volume rocker and a dock connector. Lets see some other depictions from the creatives out there?

During the boot-sequence the screen of my Imac 27" flashes green (once), then returns to normal. This does not happen when I boot my Windows (Bootcamp) partition, so I assume this is some kind of OSX driver error. This started to happen only after I installed the latest patch (10.9.3). How to get rid of it ?

I've had this 2.0 Ghz 1gb ram Macbook since September 2007 and this was the first time I've ever had any problemas with it. So let me start from the beginning.
It all started this year. One day I picked up my Macbook and turned it on and I noticed that the screen was blinking quite a lot... then it started to get worse to a point I got really worried and it started to annoy me. Sometimes I'd boot it and Leopard would be changing my wallpaper every second (it's supposed to change my wallpaper everyday according to what I've setup in system preferences). While blinking the colors would get messed up and when I closed the Macbook and let it on, sleeping, I'd open it and it would be on the blue screen as if I had just turned it on.
It's worth mentioning that I was running a version of Leopard I downloaded from a torrent and had installed it from an external hard drive. So I thought I should try to format the machine, erasing everything and installing a new and original version of Tiger. Once I installed AND got all updates installed as well it was running perfectly. The blinking had gone away.
Yesterday I installed some new updates, booted and used it fine. Today I turned it on and it won't go past the blue screen and the apple logo won't show up as well. My Macbook just won't boot... I've tried booting on safe mode, booting with the tiger dvd on, i've tried resetting the pram and everything else I could do. The apple logo won't seem to appear and the machine won't boot.
First the blinking screen and now it won't boot.
Any other suggestions besides taking it to a support store? It's worth mentioning as well that I live in Brazil and support to Apple computers isn't as great and cheap as it is in the US. I've had this Macbook for less than 1 and a half year.

I have a two and a half year old mac book. It's not booting further than a white screen.
What has happened I think is that it was run flat. I have though charged the batteries up to two green lights on the battery.
It's making hard drive noises but sits on the white screen.
Any ideas. This is my main work machine and I rely on it.

A few times now, maybe once a month, I've restarted my (first generation, 2006) Macbook and gotten nothing but a black screen, while the computer seems to be continuing to boot in the background. The boot-up sound plays, and if I leave it to finish, the screen goes from black to a dull grey, and I'm able to shut it down by hitting the power button and pressing Enter, as if the shut-down dialogue screen has appeared. The pattern so far seems to be that if I shut down down mid-boot, by holding the power button, the next boot will still have a black screen; but when I let the boot finish and shut down from 'within' Mac OS X, the next boot works normally. I restart the computer once or twice a week, and this only happens occasionally--but it has been happening repeatedly.Â

I have an MBP about 2 yrs. old. This morning when booting up, the computer made the chime sound and appeared to turn on but the screen stayed completely dark. I tilted it around and tried to see if the backlight was just dead, but there appears to be absolutely nothing on the screen. Furthermore, the little light that normally pulses while the computer is sleeping is on, though not pulsing, anyone know what's going on?

I just installed Snow Leopard on a white MacBook. Everything was fine until I went to Update the rest of the software on the computer. I hit "Install 11 Updates", it started installing, and then it just turned off. I powered up, hit the update button again, it began downloading and then powered off again. I plugged in power and powered up and now im stuck on a blue screen with the black spinning showing up and hiding repeatedly for 5-7 seconds at a time.

My MBP was working fine and then froze while I was on the internet. I turned it off and on again by holding down the power button. It powered on and froze on the white/gray screen with the Apple logo with the spinning wheel underneath it. I restarted it again by holding down the power button. Now it freezes on an all white/gray screen. I've tried starting it with the disk in it and holding down the "C" key and starting it and holding down the shift key after I hear the start up tone. Neither have worked.

I have a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz/250GB HDD/2GB RAM that won't turn on, unless I leave the power button pressed, in which case, as you all know, the computer turns off again. It started about 3 days ago. Set the computer to sleep, shut it closed, took it to another room and opened it. The MBP gave me the blue screen, then black and then... nothing. At first I thought it was the HDD, but now I'm having second thoughts. I now think it's the cpu fan.

The battery on my MBP (2007 2.33 Core 2 Duo) has started to die, just like the three others that came before it. It seems like it's only been a year or so since I got a new battery. Yesterday, I was using it unplugged and the computer shut off when the battery was around 58%. I have never seen a battery shut off that early. The worst I had seen before that was a previous battery that would die around 35%.
A couple questions:
1. Is there something I am doing that is causing my batteries to keep dying so quickly? An Apple Genius told me that keeping the computer plugged in all the time can burn out the battery. I don't really want to bother putting the computer through unnecessary charge cycles to keep up the battery life.
2. Is there any way to recoup some of the lost battery life of my current battery, or is it just dead?
3. In replacing the battery, should I buy another Apple battery from the website, or are there better quality 3rd party MBP batteries?
4. On a side bar, I am thinking about purchasing a new MBP, but I am worried that the battery will have the same problem, and it will be much more of a hassle to fix because everything is internal now. I hate having to hand my computer over to Apple Care for a whole day and be without it.
