MacBook Pro :: How To Remove Battery For Cleaning Screen
Jan 7, 2011
y Macbook Pro booklet 'Everything Mac' WARNS: 'The battery in your Macbook can be replaced only by and Apple Authorized Service Provider, or an Apple Retail Store' (page 31). I was even warned, 'mess with the battery and you lose guarantee rights'.
OK - I wont touch the battery, but, hey Mr Apple, how do I clean my screen?
So I look it up on my Apple sanctioned 'Macbook pro users guide' in pdf:
'To clean your MacBook Pro screen, do the following: Shut down your MacBook Pro, unplug the power adapter, and REMOVE the battery.' (page 109)
Appart from the contradicting information, we have to remove the battery to clean our screen?!?

I have the dreaded " unexpected error occured. (Error code 0x8002006E)" problem.
Basically it doesn't want to burn DVDs ( fine on CDs though ).
I've read various ways to fix this such as zapping pram, SMC reset etc. and none worked. I also read that a cleaning disc might do the job.
So my question is, are these discs safe in a MacbookPro machine? And as I recall these discs have little bristles on one side - which way up should they go ( facing up or down )?

I cannot see how to remove the subtle "smudges" that accumulate. It is like there are fingerprints on the screen, and even with a soft paper towell and gentle cleaning fluid, there is no real improvement.
I know this sounds silly, but the cool screen on the laptop is a part of its attraction, and it is natural to want to make it nice.

The owners' manual does not address this issue. I have an early 2008 model MB166LL/A with the easily removed battery. I normally use my laptop plugged in with the AC adaptor, but at least once a week I use the battery, usually discharging it until the last warning pops up before it goes dead. I only got 242 cycles out of the second battery purchased at and installed by the nearest Apple authorized repair shop about 18 months ago (to replace my first expanded/bulging battery about 18 months after purchase). The second battery is also expanding/bulging and the laptop is shutting down unexpectedly. Battery life indicator shows 2 1/2 hours of life at 99% charge & drop-down states "Service Battery". I have ordered a new battery from Laptop Battery One for $69 to replace myself
I understand battery longevity will vary greatly with usage. I watch no DVDs, play no music, and no games, and use most of the battery saving tips. I do notice the bottom of the case heating up from time to time, but I usually always place it on a hard surface so the bumpers keep the bottom up to allow air circulation. Is 242 cycles awfully low for a battery (online claims state 400-800 cycles)? Should I remove my new battery when using AC?

I notice people saying to use water when cleaning the screen, well that just smears the smudges. So, is there any product I can use such as Windex, 409, etc, on the screen of my iMac or is my only option the absurdly overpriced cleaners from the Apple Store?

I bought a used iMac that was supposedly in "mint condition."
Anyhow the screen is majorly condensated and I want to clean it. I saw a video on YouTube of some guy using a roller to do this.
Does anyone know of any good products to use to clean the inner LCD and back part of the glass? I also need to be careful where to do this so not to attract any dust.

I am looking for a screwdriver or a bit that works to remove the battery in a mid-09 15" Macbook Pro. Instead of the typical tri-wing that Apple has used in the past, this screw is a 5-pointed torx with a post, requiring a special driver to remove it. It is a size-6 (TX6) bit, bit with the 5 points and the post, I cannot find a driver to remove it. Has anyone had success with this?

I removed battery without turning off my mac book pro. Now it will not boot up or remove cd. I tried restarting with eject, spacebar, command e, option, trackpad, and f12 depressed, individually each time to no avail. I installed a 2 gb. ram kit and loaded OSX Snow Leopard after removing battery.

my macbook pro mid 2010 is indicating that my battery needs to be serviced. Before I call Apple or take it to the Apple store I wanted to reset my smc. I've looked already on how to do it, but I'm not sure whether or not I have to unscrew my macbook pro and remove the battery or if I can perform the SMC reset without it.

I used my Macbook Pro's Time Machine to restore everything on the iMac that I received. However, the battery icon is showing up on the menu bar (in between the bluetooth and airport). Is there a way to remove it? Are there any other problems from restoring files onto an iMac with a Macbook Pro's Time Machine?

just the other day I opened my laptop to find a thin green line run from the top of the screen down to the bottom. It's towards the left side. I don't know how it got there, what it is, or anything about it. I've tried restarting my computer, turning it off, etc.

The full screen mode of Preview always shows a small grey bubble on the botton of the screen that indicates the page number. I would like to remove this page numbering. Is that possible? Since the page numbers are not on the pdf itsself but created by Preview I could not find how to remove them. I added a screen shot to indicate which page numbering I mean.
