View 6 RepliesI just woke my MacBook Air up after charging and I noticed that the menubar icon for the battery was full, but it was RED. It changed back to black after about 5 seconds. Has anybody ever seen this "full" RED status icon in their menubar? I am posting a screenshot so you can see.

However, the battery icon is showing up on the menu bar (in between the bluetooth and airport). Is there a way to remove it? Are there any other problems from restoring files onto an iMac with a Macbook Pro's Time Machine?

after unplugging the mag connector, battery status indicates 100% after 1.75 hours. anyone seen this before? did not notice this happen prior to update.
I have seen many nicely designed desktops and most of them have customized menubars, from the different menu icons (like gmail notifier, bowtie, etc) to even the fonts and different apple icons.
I have tried to use Magnifique but, that seems to only change some of it.
My question is, how would I be able to change the fonts and the icons on the menubar? What would I need?
I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe owners' manual does not address this issue. I have an early 2008 model MB166LL/A with the easily removed battery. I normally use my laptop plugged in with the AC adaptor, but at least once a week I use the battery, usually discharging it until the last warning pops up before it goes dead. I only got 242 cycles out of the second battery purchased at and installed by the nearest Apple authorized repair shop about 18 months ago (to replace my first expanded/bulging battery about 18 months after purchase). The second battery is also expanding/bulging and the laptop is shutting down unexpectedly. Battery life indicator shows 2 1/2 hours of life at 99% charge & drop-down states "Service Battery". I have ordered a new battery from Laptop Battery One for $69 to replace myself
I understand battery longevity will vary greatly with usage. I watch no DVDs, play no music, and no games, and use most of the battery saving tips. I do notice the bottom of the case heating up from time to time, but I usually always place it on a hard surface so the bumpers keep the bottom up to allow air circulation. Is 242 cycles awfully low for a battery (online claims state 400-800 cycles)? Should I remove my new battery when using AC?

I am looking for a screwdriver or a bit that works to remove the battery in a mid-09 15" Macbook Pro. Instead of the typical tri-wing that Apple has used in the past, this screw is a 5-pointed torx with a post, requiring a special driver to remove it. It is a size-6 (TX6) bit, bit with the 5 points and the post, I cannot find a driver to remove it. Has anyone had success with this?

The battery icon on my macbook pro has a 'X' on top of it. The machine turns off as soon as i remove the power cable from the mac. It turns on only when i remove the battery and again put it back on. Once i do this, the battery shows 100%. After i leave it connected to the power for an hour or so, the 'X' appears again!! My macbook is not under warranty.

y Macbook Pro booklet 'Everything Mac' WARNS: 'The battery in your Macbook can be replaced only by and Apple Authorized Service Provider, or an Apple Retail Store' (page 31). I was even warned, 'mess with the battery and you lose guarantee rights'.
OK - I wont touch the battery, but, hey Mr Apple, how do I clean my screen?
So I look it up on my Apple sanctioned 'Macbook pro users guide' in pdf:
'To clean your MacBook Pro screen, do the following: Shut down your MacBook Pro, unplug the power adapter, and REMOVE the battery.' (page 109)
Appart from the contradicting information, we have to remove the battery to clean our screen?!?
my macbook pro mid 2010 is indicating that my battery needs to be serviced. Before I call Apple or take it to the Apple store I wanted to reset my smc. I've looked already on how to do it, but I'm not sure whether or not I have to unscrew my macbook pro and remove the battery or if I can perform the SMC reset without it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedStarting this morning an X has appeared over my battery icon. When I click the icon is says no battery available. When I check the system profiler it says no battery installed. When I click the button on the battery all 6 lights turn on. I have read similar posts to this that say when they unplug the power supply the mac turns off in a few minutes, mine however will stay on the same amount of time as if the battery was charged. I'm surprised that this happened because I bought a new battery 3 months ago because the original one short circuited when my hard drive went last summer.
I had to have the power supply constantly plugged in if I was using the computer. I tried shutting down the computer, removing the battery and restarting and that worked. However when I shut down, unplugged the power supply and tried to restart, it did not turn on. I'm hoping there is a solution as I use my laptop on the road often and not being able to turn it on without the power supply is a real inconvenience.

I don't get this. My mom's white MacBook (Intel IGP model) showed an X across the battery like it doesn't work, so I bought her a new battery for it. However, I installed the new battery and it still shows an X but it actually does work. I figured it out by accident. I thought maybe I bought a bad battery. I tripped over the magsafe and the MB stayed on... confused, I am now here. Not finding much about this.
What causes OS X to display an X across the battery icon? Doesn't this usually mean the battery is ruined? When pushing the button on the bottom of the battery, it shows five LEDs as it's fully charged and working. I unplugged it several times, and the MB stays on.
It also reduces the screen brightness and seems to go into battery power saving settings when unplugged. So how do I get OS X to see the battery? It must be charging properly as it's not hot or bulging or anything at all.
The problem is simply that it's not showing the battery information at all as though there were no battery plugged into the MacBook. But it works as though it's plugged in and all is normal?
Earlier today, maybe around 3PM, I was using my laptop, and it was charging and it was maybe around 60% battety life when out of no where it just shut off and even the light on my charger went out. When I turned it back on, the fan was running and there was an X over the battery icon. I've tried turning it off and on, and leaving it alone for a few hours, to see if it would resolve the problem but it didn't. Â It is currently 9:52PM, I'm still experiencing these problems and I'm using the exact laptop to type this, but I don't know how much battery life is left.Â
