Apr 12, 2012I removed battery without turning off my mac book pro. Now it will not boot up or remove cd. I tried restarting with eject, spacebar, command e, option, trackpad, and f12 depressed, individually each time to no avail. I installed a 2 gb. ram kit and loaded OSX Snow Leopard after removing battery.

Jan 5, 2011My MBP was recently squished in a motorcycle accident and its hard drive and superdrive were destroyed. Is it possible to buy a new hard drive, put it in an external USB 2.0 enclosure, then install OS X on it using the discs that came with my destroyed MBP in a different Mac, then put the hard drive into the squished computer and have it use that hard drive as its startup disk? The motherboard on the squished computer is fine, I just can't install OS X on it because it has a broken superdrive.

Feb 18, 2012The owners' manual does not address this issue. I have an early 2008 model MB166LL/A with the easily removed battery. I normally use my laptop plugged in with the AC adaptor, but at least once a week I use the battery, usually discharging it until the last warning pops up before it goes dead. I only got 242 cycles out of the second battery purchased at and installed by the nearest Apple authorized repair shop about 18 months ago (to replace my first expanded/bulging battery about 18 months after purchase).The second battery is also expanding/bulging and the laptop is shutting down unexpectedly. Battery life indicator shows 2 1/2 hours of life at 99% charge & drop-down states "Service Battery". I have ordered a new battery from Laptop Battery One for $69 to replace myself
I understand battery longevity will vary greatly with usage. I watch no DVDs, play no music, and no games, and use most of the battery saving tips. I do notice the bottom of the case heating up from time to time, but I usually always place it on a hard surface so the bumpers keep the bottom up to allow air circulation. Is 242 cycles awfully low for a battery (online claims state 400-800 cycles)? Should I remove my new battery when using AC?

Instead of the typical tri-wing that Apple has used in the past, this screw is a 5-pointed torx with a post, requiring a special driver to remove it. It is a size-6 (TX6) bit, bit with the 5 points and the post, I cannot find a driver to remove it. Has anyone had success with this?

Feb 17, 2010Installation was easy, I used the ifixit guide. But - and I am still slapping myself for it - I broke the battery during installation.
Following the ifixit guide I removed the battery to have more room for the installation of the SSD. The battery came off very easily, but unfortunately with the socket from the motherboard still attached.
I have tried to reinstall it, but apparently the contact is to loose. It does not stick to the motherboard and I am wondering how Apple attached it in the first place.
My Macbook Air still works on AC - and the Runcore is a breeze - but it will not recognize the battery. That means my svelte MBA is no chained to my desk.

I had also intended to buy lion for myself but my iMac's hard drive died.Since Lion was installed the MacBook's battery life has been very, very poor - even booting up can cost 5%. A lot of people gave been discussing this. I have googled this issue and emailed Apple, but there seems to be no solution on the horizon. So I am going to reinstall Snow Leopard on the MacBook.  I had intended to contact Apple to see if a refund would be possible. However, just yesterday I replaced the hard drive in my iMac and it is working fine now. So I was wondering since I paid for the Lion OS, is okay for me to install it on my iMac rather than attempt to get a refund. Is that legal? And would it work? Would the fact that it was bought using my mother's AppleID (my money though ;)) mean that if I install it on my iMac it will make my computer my morher's computer - meaning my morher's login and details will overwrite mine?Â
