View 1 RepliesThe owners' manual does not address this issue. I have an early 2008 model MB166LL/A with the easily removed battery. I normally use my laptop plugged in with the AC adaptor, but at least once a week I use the battery, usually discharging it until the last warning pops up before it goes dead. I only got 242 cycles out of the second battery purchased at and installed by the nearest Apple authorized repair shop about 18 months ago (to replace my first expanded/bulging battery about 18 months after purchase). The second battery is also expanding/bulging and the laptop is shutting down unexpectedly. Battery life indicator shows 2 1/2 hours of life at 99% charge & drop-down states "Service Battery". I have ordered a new battery from Laptop Battery One for $69 to replace myself
I understand battery longevity will vary greatly with usage. I watch no DVDs, play no music, and no games, and use most of the battery saving tips. I do notice the bottom of the case heating up from time to time, but I usually always place it on a hard surface so the bumpers keep the bottom up to allow air circulation. Is 242 cycles awfully low for a battery (online claims state 400-800 cycles)? Should I remove my new battery when using AC?

I am looking for a screwdriver or a bit that works to remove the battery in a mid-09 15" Macbook Pro. Instead of the typical tri-wing that Apple has used in the past, this screw is a 5-pointed torx with a post, requiring a special driver to remove it. It is a size-6 (TX6) bit, bit with the 5 points and the post, I cannot find a driver to remove it. Has anyone had success with this?

I tried restarting with eject, spacebar, command e, option, trackpad, and f12 depressed, individually each time to no avail. View 1 Replies View Relatedy Macbook Pro booklet 'Everything Mac' WARNS: 'The battery in your Macbook can be replaced only by and Apple Authorized Service Provider, or an Apple Retail Store' (page 31). I was even warned, 'mess with the battery and you lose guarantee rights'.
OK - I wont touch the battery, but, hey Mr Apple, how do I clean my screen?
So I look it up on my Apple sanctioned 'Macbook pro users guide' in pdf:
'To clean your MacBook Pro screen, do the following: Shut down your MacBook Pro, unplug the power adapter, and REMOVE the battery.' (page 109)
Appart from the contradicting information, we have to remove the battery to clean our screen?!?

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy macbook pro mid 2010 is indicating that my battery needs to be serviced. Before I call Apple or take it to the Apple store I wanted to reset my smc. I've looked already on how to do it, but I'm not sure whether or not I have to unscrew my macbook pro and remove the battery or if I can perform the SMC reset without it.

On the bottom of my black MacBook, there is a circle that you use to loosen the battery. Today it fell off, so now the silver underneath part is exposed. I keep trying to put the cover back on but it keeps falling out. How do i get it to stay?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am by far not computer savvy and I own a G4 running OS 10.3.9. I recently bought a new iPod nano for my daughters 9yr birthday. This was all she wanted for her birthday. As I tried to get this going my G4 would not accept the new device. I later found out I need to purchase a system upgrade in order to use the iPod. I can barely afford the iPod let alone the extra $129.00 to use it. I feel financially violated and duped. I dont know if I'm upset at Apple or Best Buy, or both, for not making it clear about this issue to the computer laymens, like myself, in the world before shelling out the hard earned cash to purchase the iPod nano. I am really upset and want to see if this has happened to others out there.

I changed the time frame on my auto backup so it would only go once a day instead of hourly, now it seems like it does not run at all unless I do it manually.
Am I missing something or is Nano not good for editing these files?
Does anyone know if and how I can use my cam on the nano as a webcam?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm very frustrated with my iPod Nano right now. It hasn't been charging or syncing to my MacBook or any other USB 1.0/2.30 computer in this house. The cable works fine, and I've tried it with other cables, too, so it's the iPod's fault, needless to say. When I plug it in, it only tuns the backlight on the screen. It doesn't sync or charge or charges extremely slow without any indication. When plugged into a wall charger, it charges just fine for some odd reason. I've reseted the iPod a million times and gone through the diagnostics menu a million times. I can't figure this out!
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I had to take my macbook pro into the genius bar recently to replace my battery and they ran diagnostic tools from a nano. Anyone know how to get a hold of these tools or what they are?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just downloaded, and updated iTunes to 10.6.  Now I only get a beach ball in iTunes (which can only be force quit) when doing any kind of sync with the with 5th Gen Nano. I can no longer delete or add songs or movies. The Nano still works perfectly. Â
Is the 5th Gen Nano no longer supported by Apple?Â

I have many songs on my ipod nano but I cant load them onto my newly purchased mac. It does an auto sync when I plug it in but only reads the itunes purchases that I have made, and loads them onto my itunes, however I have laods of other music from my cd collection that I have put onto my nano ipod manually through itunes downloading on my old windows pc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy stupid iPod Nano 3G started this last night. I plugged up my nano, and it said I needed to restore my iPod, so I did it. After I restored it, I placed all my music back into it. When I unplugged it, it said No Music. I plugged it back in, wondering what the heck was going on, and it said Other: 3.63GB instead of Music: 3.63GB. So I restored about three times in a row, and I've even went to Disk Utility to erase it and restore, and it does the same thing. What can I do?
View 2 Replies View Related I've been so unlucky that the bluetooth on my macbook unibody, has been destroyed, was down at the nearest Apple Store here in Norway, it will take about 1 to 2 weeks, they have to order the bluetooth. so they would have my macbook there until they got the part, to repair it.
And I can not live without macbook, and there is no question of me to sit here with a Windows or Linux computer, so I now use a Bluetooth dongle, but it sticks so far out from the macbook, anyone know of a bluetooth dongle that is nano size sticking 2 mm from the macbook?
yesterday I ejected my nano (2nd generation aluminium) from itunes only to discover that it had not updated my track listings. Then when I reconnected it, iTunes did not recognise the ipod at all. I have tried lots of times. I have also shut down, disconnected power cable and restarted but to no avail. ipod not showing in itunes or on desktop.
I have not yet upgraded to Leopard (I know...) could that be the problem (a conflict between 10.4.11 and iTunes 8.0.2?
I bought the Late 2008 MBP and the USB ports are not registering as 2.0. I have confirmed that it is indeed running at 1.0 speeds through synching my ipod touch through itunes as well as through transferring files from an external hard drive. The transfer speed averages around 1-1.5 mb/sec, which is in line with USB 1.0 speeds.
I've lived with it for a few weeks, but I just got a new ipod nano today and whenever I connect it to my MBP, the screen turns gray and I immediately get this message:
"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button."
I've tried resetting the SMC but to no avail. It hasn't escaped from my attention the possibility that the two problems are interrelated. I haven't been able to find OS X drivers for the USB ports, so right now the only option that I know of is to reinstall leopard. Does anyone know of a simpler solution that wouldn't require a complete reinstall of the OS?
I was just looking at a long PDF file in preview and got off the computer for a bit. When I come back, the scrolling for some reason got extremely slow! I don't know what the heck happened. I have scrolling on the highest in system preferences and nothing helped. It takes very long just to get through a page. I know I could just use hyper scrolling, but it is still slow and only fast if I spin it all the way, which then goes all the way to the bottom of the page. What could be wrong?
