View 19 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if anyone uses iwork and MS office Student & Home. If so what do you think is best? I am thinking about getting the Student & Home edition. I have iWork
View 24 Replies View RelatedAs you know, there are several Office versions. The Professional and Special Media boast Exchange server support, whereas Home and Student does not have it. I wonder, what is it all about? Are there any special files that one can copy and enable this support? I could not find anything specific to this issue on my computer. Moreover, no direct reply from Google searches.
View 2 Replies View Related im in search of a mac. Not going to go over specs but anyway. As a pc user looking for an upgrade and to try something different, i have now come to the crossroad on what to buy for word processing and the works. Now i have been using office 2007 for the past year and a half and have rehabilitated to the new format. Since the pc version of office 2007 will not run on a mac and i will be forced to pay $150 for the one for the mac. Which is better. I works it only $100 in Canada (going to make that clear i live in Canada) Will i miss Office 2007 or will i work be something that i will enjoy to work with.
Do you know if MS Office for Mac 2008 has language options? Or does it come in English only?
I'm referring to the interface language as opposed to spell/grammar check settings on MS Word for example. I want to install MS Office in the German language, but I am here in the US. Any advice on how I can get the German version here?
If you try configuring a new macbook pro through the education store, I get all the usual student discounts and stuff. Now, like usual, they also have the option to get microsoft office preinstalled on my laptop too. However, clicking on it, does not add to the price at all (like its free....) but I can't see any promotion of this being free. Is this just my browser being weird or is this legit?
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo, i was wondering what was the difference between the two? Well looking at it i dont see why i should go get office student and shell out that 180 or so when i can get iwork for like 50. Iwork can also be saved to office student files and opened. The tech at Apple said i should get office though?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm finding myself having to print notes and articles more than I used to and I decided it's time to look into a color laser printer. I'm looking for something with modestly priced toner, a relatively small footprint, doesn't require a lot of power, prints double-sided, and that plays nice with mac. Looks like samsung, hp, and brother offer some nice choices, just not sure where to start.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Office 2008 Home and Student installed on my MBP. I recently upgraded to a hosted Exchange solution and they offer a download of Entourage 2008 that will allow Exchange Server interaction.
When I loaded that version over top of my install, Entourage will not open. It gives me an error about the identity not being able to open the item.
I'd like to be able to work on the imac in the office from home, on my macbook, although i'd need the remote screen in the office to stay blank and not show what i'm doing when logged in as i work in a public office with a few people.
Are there any apps that enable me to do this or is there a feature inbuilt into OSX?
Which should I get? I am tempted to say "Apple!" but I might was well as use OpenOffice and live with its limitations if iWork doesn't provide better compatibility with Office.
I was also thinking of Office 2008 (Home/Student Edition), but I am not sure if it is worth it.
One of the coolest features I was looking for in Office Home 2011 was the co-authoring online, like you can do it in google docs. Yet I can't find the option. Do you need the business version with share-point for that?
Further, do other people need to have the new version too?
I just upgraded my Mac to Office 2011, which includes Remote Desktop Connection (RDP). I know that I cannot connect TO a Windows Vista Home Premium computer from the Mac, but according to the MS help files, I can connect from Vista Home Premium to the Mac. I'm running both computers on the same wireless network, yet the Vista machine cannot connect to the Mac....can't even ping the Mac IP, as a matter of fact. The IPv4 addresses that show are the router IPs (from ipconfig), and they of course begin 192.168.xxx.xxx.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWe have been a Mac family for a little over 2 years. We have 2 iMacs and one MBP (eldest dd's). We are ready to buy another MBP for our next child who is heading off to college. In this day of trying to pinch every penny, I am wondering if it is ok to buy #1, or do we not worry about another $250 and get #2.
He is going to study journalism/broadcasting---I know the field of study can make a difference on what to get.
If i walk into Apple store with my NUS card, do I qualify for the student discount on a Macbook Pro or do I need to provide other proof that I'm a student?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am finally buying my first Mac (as well as my first laptop) and need some advice as to what I truly need (as opposed to what I covet) - not just for school but for professional internships as well.
I will be using Adobe Creative Suite (CS5), with Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator, but I am also an interior designer and use drafting and modeling progams such as AutoCAD and Revit or similar.
I have settled on a 15" Macbook Pro because I wish to be an ambidextrous platform user, but here are a few things I am undecided about:
-Intel Core i5 or i7 processor?
(I believe the i5 is packaged with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB GDDR3 memory and the i7 with 512MB GDDR3 memory)
-4GB of RAM or 8GB?
(should I start with 4 and add modules later if I need them?)
-500GB Hard Drive: 5400rpm or 7200rpm?
-the standard 1440 x 900 display or the Hi-Res 1680 x 1050?
(after reading other posts here, it seems that the gloss screen will be better for me than the anti-glare)
Anything else I should be considering?
This fall I will be attending the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at the University of Virginia. I am very interested in getting a 15" MacBook Pro, but unsure of exactly what level of specifications I would need.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I am a bit stuck between getting the 13" or the 15" because I don't know whether the 15" is really worth 500 more as this will be my first Mac and I don't know too much about them..
I will be carrying it around campus a lot and using Photoshop/Illustrator a lot.
one of my main concerns is whether the screen will be big enough in the long run..
On the Macs, I just pick the student account. No password needed. Often times have tons of files left on desktop other students downloaded.
Can't they set up each student with their own account on the Macs? Or have they just not bothered?
I'll be starting college this fall. I'm not a major gamer. The extent of my gaming is The Sims series. I also enjoy a good free online flash game here and there. I love surfing YouTube, using iTunes, uploading my photos to iPhoto, using Skype, etc. Basic computer tasks. Now that I'm heading off to school, I'm ready to switch computers. I've had a MacBook Pro my last four years of high school (the Core Duo model). It has been a tried and true workhorse. I rarely moved it around, though when I had to, it was a cumbersome addition to my ever-growing book bag.Am I a fool for truly considering the air? An iPad isn't going to cut if for college (I don't want an iPad and a Mac laptop) and would love something ultra-portable that's easy to pull out on the desk and have another piece of paper to the side. I don't mind using Bootcamp for virtualization.
Are there still quality issues with the Air like the revision A? I wouldn't touch one of those with a 5-foot stick. It's been a long time since I played around with one. The lack of CD-drive does not bother me at all. Basically, I want a reliable machine (e price-point of the Air is fine) that doesn't stutter on YouTube, will last my 4 years of college surfing the web and doing Microsoft Office apps like my MacBook Pro Core Duo has, and is an overall portable machine. I envision taking this machine across the globe with me. Yes, I have big dreams.
so I've been looking to purchase a new laptop for a while now, and have decided that a mac would be the best choice. However, I'm having a problem deciding between the macbook or the macbook pro and what configurations would be best. Aside from writing essays, spreadsheets and presentations, I'd primarily use my laptop for internet surfing and instant messaging. I have a ton of music and photos and will be doing light photo editing. I already have a 200gb external hard drive so I shouldn't be needing any extra space. I also tend to run a lot of programs at the same time. Which mac and which configuration makes most sense for me?
View 13 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how Boot camp and pre-activated copies of WIndows Xp are? DO the two mix well?
At my school we can buy these copies called Win XP sp2 Student edition since were students in a special program. This copy is supposed to be used to teach us the installation process of windows Xp on PCS but since i was able to buy one now i was wondering if it will work on my iMac.
I successfully performed a clean install using VMWare Fusion and the Windows 7 ISO. The installer accepted by serial as well. I restarted in VMWare and it ran fine, but when I try to boot in Bootcamp, it flips to a blue screen for a second and then it shuts down and restarts.
Anyone had this problem and know a fix for it?
I am running Vmware Fusion with XP Professional. I finished downloading the Solidworks Student Design Kit (which took 5 hours ) and was installing it. During installation it stated there was an error and restarted. Now there is an icon that says "Solidworks Design Kit" but when I click it, nothing happens.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThey are offering Windows 7 home premium for $29.99 to students, but I use Snow Leopard. I wanted to add the Windows 7 in my computer to use for bootcamp. So my question is.. is this an upgrade (do I need a pre-existing Windows XP or Vista software) or can I have nothing previously and it allows me to install from scratch?
