I am running Vmware Fusion with XP Professional. I finished downloading the Solidworks Student Design Kit (which took 5 hours ) and was installing it. During installation it stated there was an error and restarted. Now there is an icon that says "Solidworks Design Kit" but when I click it, nothing happens.
View 1 RepliesI am finally buying my first Mac (as well as my first laptop) and need some advice as to what I truly need (as opposed to what I covet) - not just for school but for professional internships as well.
I will be using Adobe Creative Suite (CS5), with Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator, but I am also an interior designer and use drafting and modeling progams such as AutoCAD and Revit or similar.
I have settled on a 15" Macbook Pro because I wish to be an ambidextrous platform user, but here are a few things I am undecided about:
-Intel Core i5 or i7 processor?
(I believe the i5 is packaged with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB GDDR3 memory and the i7 with 512MB GDDR3 memory)
-4GB of RAM or 8GB?
(should I start with 4 and add modules later if I need them?)
-500GB Hard Drive: 5400rpm or 7200rpm?
-the standard 1440 x 900 display or the Hi-Res 1680 x 1050?
(after reading other posts here, it seems that the gloss screen will be better for me than the anti-glare)
Anything else I should be considering?
I am a bit stuck between getting the 13" or the 15" because I don't know whether the 15" is really worth �500 more as this will be my first Mac and I don't know too much about them..
I will be carrying it around campus a lot and using Photoshop/Illustrator a lot.
one of my main concerns is whether the screen will be big enough in the long run..
i saw on a video of some guys dock. and instead of the stock blue light under the applications that are open, he had an actual blue glowing circle under it....looked really cool. anyone know where or how i can customize this feature on the dock?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the last several months I've been running SolidWorks 2010 on a new MacBook Pro (Core i5 M 520 @ 2.40GHz) dual booting into XP. It's been running fine and outperforming my couple year old Dell Xeon Workstation by a few percent when benchmarked using Anna Wood's CPU intensive punch holder, averaging about 88. I decided to upgrade to Win 7, which I've been very happy with on the desktop and showed consistant performance with XP. However, I was very disappointed and confused to find that the Win 7 on the MacBook slowed down to 112 for the 32 bit install and 126 for x64. Test were run with consistant settings and on AC power. 've fiddled with the Windows settings to maximize performance. The windows experience scores, for whatever that's worth, are higher than the desktop. I'm a bit confused as to what's going on. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Office 2008 Home and Student installed on my MBP. I recently upgraded to a hosted Exchange solution and they offer a download of Entourage 2008 that will allow Exchange Server interaction.
When I loaded that version over top of my install, Entourage will not open. It gives me an error about the identity not being able to open the item.
im in search of a mac. Not going to go over specs but anyway. As a pc user looking for an upgrade and to try something different, i have now come to the crossroad on what to buy for word processing and the works. Now i have been using office 2007 for the past year and a half and have rehabilitated to the new format. Since the pc version of office 2007 will not run on a mac and i will be forced to pay $150 for the one for the mac. Which is better. I works it only $100 in Canada (going to make that clear i live in Canada) Will i miss Office 2007 or will i work be something that i will enjoy to work with.

I have a friend who is a "Road Design Engineer" (I am Vietnamese, I'm not English native speaker, so maybe I translate incorrectly the job of my friend; Road design Engineer I mean a person who design the roads, street, bridge, sewer etc.). He usually use a Vietnamese software which runs on Windows to design roads. But, he want to buy a new Macbook Pro and he wonders if any programs run on MAC can do this job.

But after that I will be getting Aperture or Lightroom... I can get Lightroom for $98 because I am enrolled in college. But if Aperture is better to some, I would consider it over LR.
I'm a college senior soon to be venturing out into the workforce in the fields of advertising and public relations. I love design and have thoroughly enjoyed working with Photoshop and InDesign - but plan on venturing more into web design and teaching myself how to make an awesome website. My school has really good discounts on Adobe software and so I'm torn over whether to purchase Design Premium at $300 or the Master Suite at $500.
I don't know how to use most of the extra tools in the Master Suite - but think that some of them could be good tools to learn. Those familiar with the software. I know this is a good deal. Should I go ahead and buy the whole package even if I'm not sure when I would use the extra features of the Master Suite?
I've been using Filemaker for years, but I've never had a need for anything too complicated - until now. I am in the midst of designing a vote database. I am hoping to find a way to have a choice made from a drop down menu that would define the text fields. I need this to be accurate as possible.

Can't they set up each student with their own account on the Macs? Or have they just not bothered?

so I've been looking to purchase a new laptop for a while now, and have decided that a mac would be the best choice. However, I'm having a problem deciding between the macbook or the macbook pro and what configurations would be best. Aside from writing essays, spreadsheets and presentations, I'd primarily use my laptop for internet surfing and instant messaging. I have a ton of music and photos and will be doing light photo editing. I already have a 200gb external hard drive so I shouldn't be needing any extra space. View 8 Replies View RelatedI successfully performed a clean install using VMWare Fusion and the Windows 7 ISO. The installer accepted by serial as well. I restarted in VMWare and it ran fine, but when I try to boot in Bootcamp, it flips to a blue screen for a second and then it shuts down and restarts.
Anyone had this problem and know a fix for it?
If i walk into Apple store with my NUS card, do I qualify for the student discount on a Macbook Pro or do I need to provide other proof that I'm a student?
