View 24 RepliesI have a WD MyBook ES that has both USB and eSata ports. I have 2 partitions on it- 1 is HFS+ and the other is FAT32. Both work fine with USB. With the ExpressCard however, I encounter a problem with the HFS+ partition. Both show up under Leopard, but after I copy 1 or 2 files to the HFS+ partition I get either a "Filename too long" error or an "unexpected error" -50 error code on any other operation. From that point forward, the partition acts as if its read-only, but doesn't show that in any of the permissions. All write operations fail after this.
However, the Fat32 partition continues to work just fine, and does not appear to suffer from the same problems. It seems I can copy files to and from it all day without problems. Both are on the same drive, going across the same controller. The card is a T-EC2R made by ONNTO [URL]. Its essentially a reference implementation of the sil3132 expresscard eSata 2. In fact, I've flashed the reference bios to try to troubleshoot the problem, and I'm using their drivers since ONNTO does not provide mac drivers for this card. The short story is that I ordered the T-EC2S, which does have drivers for OS X, but they shipped me the T-EC2R. When I realized it was a reference design, I just used the drivers from Silicon Image...............
picked up a unibody last Saturday night, and opened the battery cover tonight. The latch was opened with little resistance, but now won't close. The latch edge sits about 1/8" up, and I can't find anything which would seem to prevent it from closing.
Anyone else had a troublesome battery latch, and how did you resolve it?
Is it better to go for home theatre with in-built wifi so that it can play sound from mac or apple tv or simply cables and some speakers? Is there any home theatre which can browse files from mac drive?Or simply use hdmi cable of home theatre for hdtv and toslink for surround 5.1 sound from macbook 2008 white(has mini dvi)?
Does this method sound good or best is to not to play from mac but from external hard in NTSC format.I am thinking of buying new panasonic 3d home theatre as it will be good for 13x15 ft area.

How do you delete incorrect cover art and replace it with the correct cover art?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFrom reviews, it looks like the Corsair 256GB SSD is not bad except the random write speed.
Anybody is using this SSD on the mid-09 uMBP? any issues? I'm considering a SSD for my mid-09 15" 2.53GHz uMBP, but it seems that several members have reported issues for using OCZ SSDs on mid-09 uMBP.
Just tried Camp Tune - Paragon's software for on the fly resizing of bootcamp partition. I just did it and it worked like a charm.... no backup this and that and reinstall... nothing. Downloaded the file, burned the disk, boot with the disk and press resize (see instructions on the site).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI absolutely HATE trackpad oil/wear. I have used many pre-unibody MacBook Pro's (and other laptop models) that have worn trackpads that make tracking VERY hard. But these new trackpads are apparently wear resistant.
I have a Moshi cover on the trackpad, but I'm wondering if its even useful. Since the unibody systems have been out for a long time, can anyone report back on trackpad wear. Are the glass trackpads really as good as Apple claims, and thus no wear? I have had a unibody system for a year but it has always had a trackpad cover, and if possible I would like to do away with it as it makes tap-clicking a bit hard.
I was first torn between actually ordering the whiite macbook over the macbook pro because i hated the black keys on the silver macbook pro.
Well after searching google, ebay etc i found out about these silicone keyboard covers and want to know if you have one and also im trying to get as close as the original MBP color but these below seem to be the closest what do you guys think will look better on the MBP.

I just bought a black MacBook. I've searched the forums but all the threads I've found on this topic seem to be dead ends.
I'm already planning on getting a Moshi palmrest to keep the top of the bottom case from getting all oily and shiny.
I'm also thinking of getting a Radtech Screensaverz to keep the keyboard from imprinting onto the screen and to wipe down the screen and case.
I would like something to keep my keyboard clean as well.
Right now, I'm looking at the iSkin and zCover:

I noticed on the iSkin site that they say the pre-printed covers (which is what I think I'd like) do not fit the MacBook revision that came out in November, though.
i just bought the newly updated white polycarbonate 13.3 macbook and i was wondering what type of case would protect it the best. ive seen a bunch on ebay that looked cheap like they would do more damge then they would prevent. i just dont want all kind of scratches on my new mac becuase its like my first child to me lol.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI purchased two different Applecare boxes w/service both are brand new. One is for my mac the other is for a client. Only issue is they both came in the same box and have no indication of which is which. Mine is a Macbook Pro and his is a Mac Mini. Both boxes look identical except on one side the numbers are different. Anyway to tell without opening the boxes, as I need his to look brand new?

'm not particularly fond of some of the commercial macbook skins out there, so i'm interested in creating my own.
i'd like to create something similar to this:
clearly, there's some sort of custom/created skin (vinyl, perhaps?) on top of the actual macbook without covering the macintosh light. on top of that is a black incase cover.
any tips on creating something along these lines? methods/tools/supplies?
I got the clear moshi clear guard keyboard cover, it seemed to be one of the best ones out there, however I just read in a thread, that they can block venting & cause it to run hotter. Is this true? where does the mac vent out heat? I thought a keyboard cover was a good idea, to protect from spills etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a mid 2010 MacPro 12 2.66 Ghz cpu system with 48 GB of ram. I was running Windows 7 32 bit on my Apple SSD drive, but thought that it would be interesting to see the performance difference if I installed Windows 7 64 bit. Due to SSD space limitations Windows 7 64 bit was installed on an internal hard disk rather than the SSD drive. Here are the results:
Windows 7 32 bit on Apple SSD TS512B configured with
2 GB of RAM
8 CPUs
Enable Adaptive Hypervisor checked
Processor 7.7
Memory 4.5
Graphics 6.0
Gaming 6.0
Hard disk 6.9
overall 4.5 (lowest score).
Windows 7 64 bit on Hitachi 2 TB drive HDS722020ALA330 configured with
8 GB of RAM
8 CPUs
Enable Adaptive Hypervisor checked
Processor 7.8
Memory 7.9
Graphics 6.0
Gaming 6.0
Hard disk 7.9
overall 6.0
I was surprised by the increase in memory speed, and even more so by the hard disk improvement - even though on a physical disk rather than an SSD. In two cases (memory and hard disk) it hits the maximum performance number possible of 7.9.
How is the new update working with your PPC macs? Did your update go smoothly and are you seeing any performance gains? I am very curious because I hear intel mac users are having a slew of problems but I would like to hear from the PPC side of the fence.
I am too nervous to update right now as I have too much critical data I need to back up first and wont be able to update today.
Can you post your Windows Experience Rating here along with the specs of your Mac?
I'm hoping to see results from the Macbook 13" (2009) and Macbook Pro 13" and 15" (2009)
I just picked up a 13" MBP for my wife with everything except the anti-glare, really wish it was an option. Has anyone used any matte or anti-glare screen protectors that they are happy with? My wife is a photographer and will be using this outdoors for work, so it's a must.

Two questions. First: I've used Quickbooks Pro for Windows using Parallels BUT I really dislike Windows AND Quickbooks. The only other solutions I've seen are MYOB. Does anyone have any experience or options?
Second: I'm launching a business with the majority of sales being online. I've used X-Cart extensively, and while it's powerful it could be better. I don't to spend the coin on something custom just yet, however I know X-Cart developers will create custom add-ons to X-Cart. Are there any BETTER alternatives to X-Cart Gold? Does anyone have any extensive experience with ecommerce software?
I'm looking for an app that will let me design covers for DVD cases. Nothing super fancy, but one that will generate high-dpi results and let me create reusable templates. Most importantly, something that won't lock me into a "Wizard" mode. I've tried a few of these programs on the Windows side, and find that they're usually so constricting that your covers look generic, or they require you to be an Adobe Illustrator expert just to get anything done. I'd love to find something in between, and made for Mac.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have pdf files I need to save, and the "save as" window drops down directly over the top of the page. Many times the pdf is scanned documents with titles, authors, and publication dates and journal names at the top of the first page. Therefore it is difficult (even though the drop down is opaque) to transcribe the article name into the save file as window, because that information is at the top of the page. I cannot scroll down in the document to have the information visible as it is typically page 1, and I cannot move the save as window over so I can see the file name I want to enter. I have to write the title down on a piece of paper then click save as then type the words in from the paper, even though the title I want to use is under the drop down.
