I need help about boot camp..I was trying to partition my MBP but it's not working because of an error.
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved"
Back up disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again"
Can anyone explain to me what to do? I seriously want to have Windows 7 on my mac so I could play Starcraft II much better.

I'm trying to re-partition (i removed the first one so i could make it bigger). When i try and make a 100gb partition through bootcamp, after working for an hour, it says this:
Quote:
The disk cannot be partitioned because some files can not be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS X Extended (Journal) volume. Restore your information to the disc and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
What does this mean and how do i do this? I opened disk utility and can't work it out.

I'm trying to create a partition for Windows, but I'm getting the message "disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." A poster in another thread concerning this problem said that to create a partition, Bootcamp needs continuous space or something. I do have many large files, and I had up to 3 GB free out of 180 a few minutes ago until I deleted some files to get about 58 GB. I tried partitioning with 45 GB and got the error message. I also tried lower numbers, but nothing worked. I'm assuming it's because my files are fragmented. Then I looked up defragment in the forums and found that many people are against it whether it's because it "slows down the computer" or "it is unnecessary." Now I'm in a bind because I don't want to reinstall my OS, but now I'm hearing I shouldn't defrag either.

As soon as I start the Bootcamp assistant I get this message on the screen that asks for download of the windows support files - ie right at the start. The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.

I am trying to install boot camp on my mac, but when i attempt to partition it, it says "Verification failed. This disk could not be partitioned. Use disk utility to repair this disk." So i go to disk utility, but it won't let me hit the repair disk button. I can only hit the verify disk permissions and repair disk permissions for the Macintosh HD.

I ran Bootcamp Assistant and assigned 20 Gb of space to windows - leaving 115 Gb free. I had defragmented my harddrive using iDefrag and then I ran the partition. Afterwards I got the common error "The Disk Cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Backup the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume." Is there a simple way to fix this problem (I have looked on the web) without having to run disk utility and format the harddrive.

I just recently bought my first macbook pro. I had a 500 GB WD elite passport drive. I partitioned it to Mac os extended (journaled)- for time machine and FAT for windows and mac file transfer and storage. I used disk utility to partition the drive. These two drives are detected in my mac, however when I plug in the external drive into my windows- no pop up appears telling me to open files. So I go into my computer and click on the (F) drive in my case. Windows vista then proceeds to tell me the drive must be formatted before it can be used. What problem do I have. All I want is 2 partitions one for time machine and another that will allow for data transfer and storage. I have looked but cannot seem to find and answer. I have a 160 gb hard drive, what amount of space do you recommend for the time machine partition.

I have now attached my Time Machine backup disk to the USB port on my Airport Extreme base and selected it as backup disk but it then started the whole backup again. Is there a way of just continuing with the existing backup on this disk? I can look at the old backup from time machine by selecting the older backup manually but this option is most wasteful of space. It's the same disk connected to the same machine, why can't it just carry on?!

I partitioned my hard drive to in order to have an option of running tiger or leopard and thought that the partition would wipe my hard drive clean and was acceptant of this; however, I recently noticed that my disk space is running dangerously low and have discovered that all the crap I had on my hard drive before is still lingering in the depths of my hard drive. Anyways, is there any way I could just completely wipe my hard drive because I have a complete mess of duplicate files and songs that I don't want to even bother sorting through.

I created an image of an external hard drive to back it up, then I checked it and it opened fine. I moved the file to another drive and initialized the original drive and dropped the dmg file back onto the drive. Now it won't open. I really need the files on that drive. Is there any way at all to open it if even for a short time to retrieve the files?

When I try to partition it, it takes about 10 minutes, by that time, pretty much everything is frozen. After that time has elapsed, it gives me this error. What am I doing wrong? What files cannot be moved? I went to Disk utility but I don't know what to do here. I remember I deleted the previous Windows partition that I had.

I have tried to install windows on my mac and bootcamp says files can't be moved, I haven't got a problem with reinstalling my mac provided someone can tell me if it's possible using a backup from time machine and the process needed please. I've no idea whether it will work and I want to be 99.99999% sure before I do anything as I have important work on my mac which I can't afford to loose.

Suddenly, every file I put in the trash can is emptied immediately. This has never happened before, and I do not believe it is because of a setting somewhere that I changed. Any tips on how to prevent this?

When partitioning so that I can install XP, bootcamp claims that specific files cannot be moved, making it so that I am unable to install XP. It then orders me to ~gasp~ back my files, and reinstall OSX. Anyone else have this error message? I wanted a 14GB partition, and that would leave about 16 additional gigs free on the OSX partition

I have several hundred word processing files I prepared in MS WORD. I moved the folders containing this files from my old computer to my new iMac. Every time I try to open one of these files, I see a box on the screen saying the file cannot be opened.
This is true when I try to use MS WORD for mac, when I try Pages, and when I try other word processors.
I suspect some sort of permissions need to be set for the folders or the files. I hope it can be done in "bulk"

Instead system warms me "This item will be detect immediately, you can't undo this action." And the item is detect directly. I always have a empty trash.

am not sure if I am posting this in the right category. I am new on here so forgive me if it is not in the right place. I am having trouble with my partition using boot camp. I am getting an error about the files not being able to be moved. I have repaired permissions... did not work. Defragmented.... did not work. When I look at the defrag log I see that there is an error -43 on a jpg, which I can not find. All the other errors are items running that pertain to actually the computer working (quit all files that were opened just to make sure).

I have an external drive hooked up to an eMac. The plan is to install 10.5 on the drive, and then put the drive into a G4 powerbook. I booted the eMac from the 10.5 retail install disk, partitioned the external drive into 1 partition, with the 'Apple Partition Map' option selected in the options. But when I go to try to install onto the disk, it has a red X and says that the computer can not boot off of the device so it refuses to install.

i had my entire iTunes library, about 150GB of music files, stored on an external hard drive that was starting act wonky. so i bought a new hard drive and copied all the music folders onto that new hard drive. but now iTunes doesn't recognize all those files in the new location. how do i reconnect my iTunes library to this new hard drive?
unfortunately, i've already deleted the old music files from the old hard drive so hopefully i don't need to do something with that.

I recently moved my itunes library from PC to a NAS to use with my new Mac. With the exception of a couple hiccups everything was fine. I then asked iTunes to copy all the music to my ipod and convert the tracks to 256mb (I have re-ripped my cd collection as lossless and chosen the option to replace existing copies of the songs which were lossy).
I have 264GB of music in my iTunes library but when I looked at my NAS just now I saw 540GB of music backed up!! I then looked in one folder and saw every song had been duplicated so songs were named things like "Song.m4a" and "Song1.m4a", but this hasn't happened in every album folder - of course I have way too many to go through them individually.
How I can stop it from continuing and most importantly how to clear all the duplicates from the folders on my NAS so it only holds the 264GB of music that the iTunes library displays.

I launched the Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 on my iMac OS X v10.5. I was hoping to install Windows XP Professional with Built-in Service Pack 3. However, when I tried to partition the disk (32 GB on Windows), a message came up, saying "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." It states some directions underneath, but, as I am new to Boot Camp and Mac, I don't know what to do and how to do. Please help!
