I have spent the last few hours trying every solution that is supposedly available for converting VCF files to an xls file. WHY can't this be an option in the Contacts program? I need to upload some contacts to Constant Contact. Come on! Really! There must be an answer that doesn't require me to convert two - three times before I can use the files.

I am considering whether to switch to iCloud when I upgrade my iPhone 3G (I also have an iMac running Lion and an iPad). However I am concerned about the security of my data, particularly iCal and Contacts. Am I right in thinking that in iCloud the only copy of these is stored on Apple's servers? Call me paranoid but I would not be happy with the only copy of important files existing on a third party's servers, even if that third party is Apple. After all, not having multiple backups flies in the face of good backup practice. Is it possible to have a local copy/backup of iCal and Contacts when using iCloud?

I have a few hundred email addresses built up in my email address history. Naturally, as I begin to enter an email address in the "To" box a list of addresses automatically populates based on the letters I am typing. Most of the 600+ email addresses are not currently in my address book; nor do I want them to be. But....is there a way to export these addresses to a spreadsheet or list so I can sort through without having to add them to my address book?

It seems that the contacts app has suddenly become incapable of accessing my contacts in the cloud. Its fine on icloud.com, its fine on my phone, and its fine on my ipads. However, I'm getting an error message right now which I think must be to do with an update to Little Snitch which I did almost immediately before, and which necessitated a reboot. Since the reboot, I am seeing the following
Of course, this also means Messages doesnt work. LS is not blocking any icloud things, and calendars and mail are still working with no issues.

I'm not exactly sure of where to post this... I'm having a problem with my computer (Address Book, I believe) syncing w/ Google contacts. I'm getting the following error messages:
The first image is the original error that comes up. If I click More Info, it brings me to a list of contacts. The "Before" info contains the correct fields for their email addresses (e.g., school, work, etc). However, Google wants to get rid of these fields.
Is there any way I can get Google to accept this fields? Also, can I have Google revert to my Mac's info instead of the other way around (my mac using Google's changes)
After upgrade software on iPhone (with iCloud) contacts on MAC (Snow Leopard) are no mre sync with iPhone....
As some time hase passed by and I did not notice it immediatly, now I have all updated contacts on iCloud and no moe on Mac; how can I import contacts from iCloud to Mac contacts in snow leopard?

Have used AppleWorks 6 for years - used for spreadsheet application. Range of sheet: A80 thru AG 80. Printing on Canon MX850 requires 2 (two) pages to legibly cover contents. Was told by Apple Tech to use "Numbers" application as found in Snow Leopard for future tech support, as AppleWorks is no longer recognized by Apple. Same spreadsheet was copied from AppleWorks to "Numbers". When asked to print, 48 (forty-eight) pages would be required! Apple Tech was unable to solve problem, after a one-hour telephone call with Level 2 Support.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am pretty new to Mac OS so I am probably missing something obvious, please bear with me. When I try to view a MS Excel file, Mac OS X tries to open it with TextEdit (I have neither OpenOffice or iWorks nor anything similar installed) and of course it ends up displaying only gibberish. BUT when I am looking for a .xls file in Finder, the preview on the right shows what seems to be a regular spreadsheet with columns rows and all the usual stuff (screenshot attached). How can this be? Should i be using something different from TextEdit to open the file? I tried opening it with Preview but it did not work. I have no interest in editing the xls, simply viewing it would be enough.

I've created a spreadsheet for budgeting purposes and to keep track of my money (student). I know that on certain days (like Payday) the amount I will be paid and obviously the date. I want to be able to put this in my table but not to be added to the formula until that date is passed or met.
For Instance, If I get paid on 01/09/10 and put this in my table, the formula will add this amount to the total income for the month of September. The funds have not actually been paid to me however, so they need to be excluded until they are paid i.e on the 01/09/10.
I spend my working life in Excel 2007 and I just can't bring myself to replace my home budget spreadsheet to a true numbers format.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need a spreadsheet program that can:
1. Operate cross platform (my IT guys PC, Im Mac)
2. Sort capabilities to five, ideally six, levels
3. Capable of using macros
4. Can convert spreadsheets for an html (online) environment
I founded a national grassroots movement thats gone viral. We list registered supporters on our site, using Google Apps forms, the copy the content into an Excel spreadsheet. A friend out of state (PC user) is able to work magic with macros that magically sorts, fixes, and converts the lists to appear in our online directory (you can see an example at http://www.the350project.net/states/states_a-d.html). I created the graphics; he somehow builds the page using those plus the spreadsheets.
This is something I really need to be able to do on my end, as the owner of the site, but MS took macros out of the Mac version of Office Excel....OpenOffice only sorts three levels, and he says we need at least five....
Since I have no intention of becoming a PC user, I need to find a software program that will work on a Mac and still be able to do all this. I realize many (most?) software programs are capable of opening and saving .xls files, but the multi-level sort, macros, and html are critical to any of this working, according to him.
