I have tried Spotlight but to no avail I have an Imac.

I dual boot my iMac using Boot Camp and I'm having problems deleting a bunch of files in my Trash. A short history. I purchased a OWC external hard drive case and I've been going through my old hard drives which originally were used in my Windows XP computer. The drives were contaminated with Windows viruses and so I installed the drives one by one in the OWC case and proceeded to delete files and programs which I didn't need in each drive while in OS X and keeping the files I wanted to save in each respective drive. Now what I'm faced with is a Trash bin filled with Windows XP software (including Windows XP itself) which I cannot delete because OS X says I don't have permission to delete those files.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHave used AppleWorks 6 for years - used for spreadsheet application. Range of sheet: A80 thru AG 80. Printing on Canon MX850 requires 2 (two) pages to legibly cover contents. Was told by Apple Tech to use "Numbers" application as found in Snow Leopard for future tech support, as AppleWorks is no longer recognized by Apple. Same spreadsheet was copied from AppleWorks to "Numbers". When asked to print, 48 (forty-eight) pages would be required! Apple Tech was unable to solve problem, after a one-hour telephone call with Level 2 Support.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am pretty new to Mac OS so I am probably missing something obvious, please bear with me. When I try to view a MS Excel file, Mac OS X tries to open it with TextEdit (I have neither OpenOffice or iWorks nor anything similar installed) and of course it ends up displaying only gibberish. BUT when I am looking for a .xls file in Finder, the preview on the right shows what seems to be a regular spreadsheet with columns rows and all the usual stuff (screenshot attached). How can this be? Should i be using something different from TextEdit to open the file? I tried opening it with Preview but it did not work. I have no interest in editing the xls, simply viewing it would be enough.

The documents cannot be downloaded in any format, Numbers, Excel, or PDF. I am using the latest versions of all software. Any ideas?

I am attempting to do a mail merge between word and spreadsheet, and would like some pointers.
I have written a cover letter and would like to import my addresses from a spreadsheet file so that when I print I can insert the different names/addresses into the cover letter & save time.
I have a few hundred email addresses built up in my email address history. Naturally, as I begin to enter an email address in the "To" box a list of addresses automatically populates based on the letters I am typing. Most of the 600+ email addresses are not currently in my address book; nor do I want them to be. But....is there a way to export these addresses to a spreadsheet or list so I can sort through without having to add them to my address book?

Is there an affordable app that will move an Excel spreadsheet into an html document without losing the format? Or a method of doing it? I've done it before but can't remember how I did it.

I have spent the last few hours trying every solution that is supposedly available for converting VCF files to an xls file. WHY can't this be an option in the Contacts program? I need to upload some contacts to Constant Contact. Come on! Really! There must be an answer that doesn't require me to convert two - three times before I can use the files.

I forgot my admin password on my iMac recently and so i used the reboot with OS X snow leopard install disc to reset the keychain, but now on my login screen, it used to be just my account name, there is one called "Other" so i went into accounts in system preferences and tried to delete it but it isnt there?is really annoying me p.s. the "other account" isnt actually an account it says "Other" and when you click on it asks for your username and password...so i type in the admin accounts name and password (admin account is the only one on this computer), and it just opens up my admin account.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've created a spreadsheet for budgeting purposes and to keep track of my money (student). I know that on certain days (like Payday) the amount I will be paid and obviously the date. I want to be able to put this in my table but not to be added to the formula until that date is passed or met.
For Instance, If I get paid on 01/09/10 and put this in my table, the formula will add this amount to the total income for the month of September. The funds have not actually been paid to me however, so they need to be excluded until they are paid i.e on the 01/09/10.
I spend my working life in Excel 2007 and I just can't bring myself to replace my home budget spreadsheet to a true numbers format.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need a spreadsheet program that can:
1. Operate cross platform (my IT guys PC, Im Mac)
2. Sort capabilities to five, ideally six, levels
3. Capable of using macros
4. Can convert spreadsheets for an html (online) environment
I founded a national grassroots movement thats gone viral. We list registered supporters on our site, using Google Apps forms, the copy the content into an Excel spreadsheet. A friend out of state (PC user) is able to work magic with macros that magically sorts, fixes, and converts the lists to appear in our online directory (you can see an example at http://www.the350project.net/states/states_a-d.html). I created the graphics; he somehow builds the page using those plus the spreadsheets.
This is something I really need to be able to do on my end, as the owner of the site, but MS took macros out of the Mac version of Office Excel....OpenOffice only sorts three levels, and he says we need at least five....
Since I have no intention of becoming a PC user, I need to find a software program that will work on a Mac and still be able to do all this. I realize many (most?) software programs are capable of opening and saving .xls files, but the multi-level sort, macros, and html are critical to any of this working, according to him.
Im currently using an Excel spreadsheet, but my business is expanding so I need to use something more functional. I have tried Sage and Quickbooks but didnt really like them, not to mention the price was ridiculous.

How do I export contacts from my Mac Address book to a spreadsheet?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have spent almost two years perfecting my excel spreadsheet with columns exactly matching the fields in address book, and saved as a CSV. When I try to import up comes a two-column list, fine up until column 8, where it suddenly starts saying "do not import" and "ignore" and "in use". I fiddle for hours but don't know what it means. Experiments lead to fields in the wrong places.

My father owns one of the original G5s, so its power pc not intel. Today while browsing an excel spreadsheet he says part of the screen turned black, then the monitor shut off, then the monitor came back on but not video. Mean while the fans started spinning out of control. Now when he tries to turn it on, he gets power, but all that happens is the fans spinning faster and faster and faster until he turns it off. No video or anything. Just speeding fans. He fears the CPUs died since they control the fans. Any suggestions? He also says the fans were spinning unusually fast these last few days.
