ICloud :: Local Copy Of ICal And Contacts?

I am considering whether to switch to iCloud when I upgrade my iPhone 3G (I also have an iMac running Lion and an iPad). However I am concerned about the security of my data, particularly iCal and Contacts. Am I right in thinking that in iCloud the only copy of these is stored on Apple's servers? Call me paranoid but I would not be happy with the only copy of important files existing on a third party's servers, even if that third party is Apple. After all, not having multiple backups flies in the face of good backup practice. Is it possible to have a local copy/backup of iCal and Contacts when using iCloud?

I have encountered a problem with consolidating and migrating my calendars to iCloud. Previously I had been using MobileMe, but like a lot of iOS device users, I had made the mistake of also synching calendars and contacts locally. This had the effect of creating an "on my mac" calendar, which I did not realize for quite some time that I had been using.Â
In the process of migrating my MobileMe account to iCloud, I realized this and set about uploading the local calendar to iCloud. I used the following procedure:Â
1. Highlight the "on my mac" calendar and export it to an ics file.
2. From iCal, select File>Import and select the ics file I had just created
3. In the window that opens, selecting one of the iCloud calendars to import the events intoÂ
However, what I find is that the calendar hardly imports any of its hundreds of events. I rely on this calendar to keep track of events that I attended in the past, but it seems like no events in this local calendar prior to January 1, 2012 got imported into iCloud. I don't want to try and re-import it, since that might create duplicates of the events that have already succesfully imported.Â
Is iCloud not allowing me to import old events? Is there a way I can import the entire calendar to iCloud?Â

I have two sets of contacts in my address book, one on local drive and one from iCloud. How do I delete all the contacts from my local drive as they are all out of date?
I have tried deleting the contacts but they keep reappearing. I have tried to create a new group and they keep disappearing! I have read forums and some talk about removing the two addressbook.plist files but I don't even have those in my preference folder...
If I do not have those files, where is my address book storing these contact information and how do I get rid of them? It is driving me nuts having to deal with two lots of each contact and not being able to create groups or delete contacts.

My AdressBook contacts don´t appear in iCal (Window>contacts). The appearing window in iCal is empty, no contacts are shown.
In AdressBook all contacts are available. I use an iMac with OSX 10.7.3.

I've only just noticed, but my iCal isn't displaying birthdays, even with the "Birthdays" calendar box checked. I think this started some time ago, but only just noticed it [brothers b-day isn't showing up this month]Â
I've tried removing it and restarting the application, and signing in and out of iCloud, but no change. I thought about deleting the .plist for the iCal, but I can't actually find it in the library/preferences folder.Â

With iCloud, there are double entries when looking at All Contacts, and so things Contact details like event have double entries on iCal too. Since all Contacts are made on iCloud now, Should all Contacts be deleted from My Mac?

It seems that the contacts app has suddenly become incapable of accessing my contacts in the cloud. Its fine on icloud.com, its fine on my phone, and its fine on my ipads. However, I'm getting an error message right now which I think must be to do with an update to Little Snitch which I did almost immediately before, and which necessitated a reboot. Since the reboot, I am seeing the following
Of course, this also means Messages doesnt work. LS is not blocking any icloud things, and calendars and mail are still working with no issues.Â

I'm attempting to recover from the popular iCloud mistake "Deleting the wrong calendar". I am able to locate the Folder located in the Library of my Time Machine backup, and when I attempt to "Restore to" "Desktop" I receive the following error:
This particular file name is actually located in one of the folders, in the Calendar Folders, and is just one of the many events I would like to restore to my calendar, and the copy operation aborts when I click OK. Each time I retry this a different .ics file is the issue.
Investigating file permissions reveals nothing pertinent that I can see, because I am not attempting to cross any boundaries e.g. I'm in the user account and searching in the same user account, I wish to import Calendar Folder to.

I have recently synched my iPhone 3gs with the iCloud. Then I aslo synched it with my Mac (mac pro laptop running Lion?). Result is that the Address Book on the Mac looks like the one on my iPhone. But, then I added some contacts on my iPhone, returned to the Mac, opened the Mac Address Book, but the new and updated contacts are not there. I thought the iCloud would synch these to the Mac! Also, should I have added the iCloud as an account on my Mac Address Book for this to work? My Mac Address Book preferences only shows two acconts, Yahoo and on my Mac (local).

Sometimes works, sometimes not. IS there a way to force sync them? My ipad currently shows 335 contacts, and my Mac Lion, and iphone show 79.
I have a ton of data on the ipad that I want to access from all devices. Wierdly enough, SOMETIME the transfer occurs, sometimes not. This morning I entered a new contact on the iPad, and it instantly appeared on the Mac and iphone. So why don't the other 280 or so do that!?

I have intentionally disabled the syncing of Contacts on both my Mac and my iPad. In fact, I removed everything from my Address Book before moving my MobileMe account to iCloud so that my contacts would not be automatically uploaded during the initial setup process. Now, to my surprise, I find that all my contacts have been uploaded to iCloud anyway! How did this happen, and how can I prevent it from happening again! I keep sensitive information in my Address Book and do not want that information stored on the internet.
