How much battery life do you loose when going for the High-res screen. Some people are complaining about low battery life with their high resolution screen and I was wondering if there is a connection.
Do the standard screen get better battery life. If so, how much better?
i am using a hackintosh for a week now. I am using it just to get used to Mac OS X because i am switching to a Macbook Pro in a couple months. I switched from PC to Mac officially now. OK, let's come to the main topic of this thread;-At first, my hackintosh couldn't get my gfx card, i couldn't find the driver(kext) so my resolution was very bad. Everything was huge and blurry. I couldn't even look at my 17" Samsung LCD screen. I made an entry to file which was something like this

However I also want to use the machine for gaming in Windows 7 and in some cases I will probably need to lower the resoultion to get better framerates. Which resolutions are supported on this screen? I cannot find any documention on this. Also are all modes supported in Windows and does for example 1280x800 still look somewhat ok on the high res screen?

I wanted to ask for some advice on getting a new 15 inch MBP. I currently use a 2.2GHZ SR MBP with Anti Glare Screen. The computer works fine after a recent mother board change but I'm concerned about a future GPU failure. Applecare expires in June 2010. I was waiting for the refresh before buying and was wondering if I should go with the refurb 2.66GHZ MBP or a new i5 model. My priority is an anti glare screen and I notice that I would need to buy a high resolution screen in order to get that option on the new models. I'm not a power user and don't play games. My concern on the new model is that the text will be too small. How does the processing power compare on these two models and is the high resolution screen still readable for less than perfect eyes?

View 14 Replies View RelatedMacbook Pro 17" Text size issue with High Resolution screen. Just got a Macbook Pro 17 that I love except for one thing - text size on many programs. I understand the reason for it and I did not want a 15 inch as I tend to work with multiple programs at once. I am not tied to an office so that rules out buying an external screen, So I have been trying to find solutions that makes working with in different programs less of a strain on my eyes. Here are some of the workarounds I have found to programs I use and programs that I have had no luck with. Mail. This is the big one. It is easy to set the default font to a larger size and that helps with incoming mail. Or you can add a small/larger button with the customize toolbar option but there is no fix for outgoing mail. My friend just got his CTO MBP15 i7 anti-glare hi-res and we compared it to my old Core Duo MBP15 screen. Do you think there is light leak in the new machine? It reminds me the memory of "Apple Lottery". Now I am nervous since I am going to order one.

The new one is brighter so I adjust the brightness for fair comparison. Should I tell my friend to replace it? I wonder if other ones have the same issue.
How does the Antiglare screen look? Does it look cheap and flimsy like the matte screens on the pc laptops?This is my first Mac and i'm looking at going all out and getting the top of the line 15". View 13 Replies View RelatedThing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.
Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.
I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.
So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.
I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?
I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?

I was riding my motorcycle on new year's eve with my brand new 15" 2.8GHz i7/hi-res matte display/8GB RAM/500GB Momentus XT MacBook Pro in my backpack and crashed into a car at 45mph. My MacBook's unibody was bent badly in the corner where the hard drive resides and crushed the hard drive and superdrive and bent the aluminum LCD panel, but left the LCD screen, battery, RAM, and motherboard untouched. The top and bottom aluminum unibody case/panel are destroyed. So I'm thinking of replacing my hi-res matte LCD assembly (LCD plus aluminum cover) with the standard-res glossy version simply because it's cheaper. Is it possible to swap out the displays like this or will it cause a conflict with other components?

The reason why I choosed to retun my high res antiglare is that it had a red tone, the vertical viewing angle is WAY WORSE than my 2008 mbp antiglare, the screen was not centered (flush left with a 3mm black line to the right), and the resolution (1680) is simply too high for general use (but perfect for photography, graphic design etc).I normally love anti-glare screens but this one is simply not good enough, even though it's a "high-res" one.Please share your experience with the new 1440 standard-res glossy!
Would also appriciate if someone knew where to get the "old" core2duo with antiglare 1440 option, preferably on sale, since that's still a considerable machine for me!

I'm buying a new MBP (LCD backlight on my 2007 MBP died last week).
I value the Anti-Glare option pretty highly, but don't have great eye-sight so I would want the AG screen but at the standard 1440 x 900.
I'm wondering how running the high-res display at 1440x900 would look? Would I be degrading the quality of the image by doing that?
Ie. Would the high-res running at 1440x900 look any different from the standard screen at 1440x900 (aside from being anti-glare).
For those who would like to try adapt to hi-res screen of the 15'' but the not sure if they can, if they can't adapt to the hi-res, it's possible to set the resolution to 1440x900 with no appearence differences from the standard res screens?So the appearence and quality of the hi-res screen set to 1440x900 is the same of the standard res screen?

I've been planning to get a MBP over Christmas, and today I went to the local Reseller to get a USB-hub, and I played around with the 15" and 17" after since they were out, and I wanted to see if any other local stores had them. I've been planning on a 15" for a while, but when I looked at them right next to each other, it struck me that the resolution on the 15" is tiny compared to the 17". I realize that it's small because the screen is small, but it's so my smaller that the menubar took up so much physical space it became a problem for me. The 13" on the other hand, looked fine. The resolution is small, but the screen is small too so it fits.
Now I've been using a whitebook with 1280x800 for a while now, and the resolution is one of the primary reasons I'm not going to upgrade to a 13" MBP, but there is no way in hell I am getting the 15" with a fisher-price resolution! Is there any chance Apple could use a 1680x1050 panel instead of the 1440xwhatever? Does anyone know why the refurbs on the UK store are all 17"? There is not a single 13" or 15" there, and hasn't been for a while. Are there known problems on the 17" that I'm not aware of?
Any chance we see a higher rez screen in the upcoming Air.

I recently purchased a new 13 inch mac book pro. its giving the maximum screen resolution of 1280x800 which is highly irritating. I am used to working on a 1440x900 display on MacBook Air but I had to buy pro as there were lot of limitations of space and drives in MacBook Air. Is there anyway I can achieve that on this? I need it badly as I am not able to work.
