MacBook Pro :: Why Keep Losing All Of Screensavers

Apr 4, 2012

Recently I noticed that my screensaver changed by itself. So I went to go change it and realized that the only screensavers I had were "Computer Name" and "Flurry". I know this is kind of a stupid question to ask but its bugging me.

MacBook Air :: Looking For A Screensavers For The 11.6?

Nov 2, 2010

I've been using the [URL] Screensavers since my very first RevA MBA and I really like them. They protect the screen from keyboard scratches and indents and they're a cloth to wipe off any smudges. Sadly, the Radtech store doesn't yet have one for the 11.6 MBA and customer support didn't know when they would.

So I did a little measuring and ordered a custom sized one.

11"x7" (I picked the "grape" color)

And it fits perfectly. Exactly covers the keyboard and the trackpad, yet still lets the lid close just right.

So if anybody else can't wait, just order an 11"x7" custom.

(I'm not in any way affiliated with Radtech, I just love their products.)

Software :: Screensavers Cancelling On Macbook?

Dec 14, 2010

Just bought a new Macbook and everything's great except the screensaver facility. I'm primarily using the one that previews album covers from itunes, but it doesn't really matter which one I use. They all cancel themselves after a few seconds as though the trackpad's been activated, even though I'm nowhere near it.

I've obviously tried restarting to see if it makes a difference and it usually does for about an hour. The screensaver comes on and stays on. But I'll do some work and check it again later by activating a hot corner and it quits again after a few seconds like before.

This is hardly the end of the world, but it is pretty annoying. Anybody else had this happen on Snow Leopard and is there a way to fix it?

OS X :: Old Screensavers That Will Not Work In SL?

Aug 29, 2009

It seems that all of the older screensavers I've tried in SL no longer work. The one I love, BlankScreen, which dims the monitor to a transparency that allows you to still see the desktop (and toggle the transparency amount) is one of them. My question is, will this be a matter of the app-maker updating the screensaver, or Apple updating SL to support these older screensavers? I ask because this one hasn't been updated for a few years now. Alternatively, does anyone know of another screensaver that does the same thing, that does work in SL? Is anyone here knowledgeable enough to be able to make a new screensaver that has the same functionality?

IMac :: Not Sleeping And Screensavers Not Activating?

May 1, 2009

All of a sudden my iMac has just started not sleeping after the time its supposed to and the screensaver wont turn on when its supposed to. I havent installed any new software, its just happened out of the blue, I can still use hot corners to activate sleep and the screensaver but id rather have them activate by themselves. But they're not, and all of my System Preference's sleep and screensaver options are fine. Why wont my Mac sleep and/or turn on the screensaver after set times?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: After Update 10.7.4 Screensavers Disappeared?

May 10, 2012

After updating to 10.7.4 & Safari 5.1.7 all my screensavers have disappered from System Prefrences. The Screensavers are still in their appropriate folders in "Finder" I have tried a few suggestion from other blogs but still no luck, hoping someone here can help.

Other but less important changes also occurred after the updates. 1) changed my (custom) log-in screen back to default.  2) removed "Library" from Finder ( I had Library in Finder via terminal command. 3) replaced my custom dock back to default dock.

Applications :: Snow Leopard - Use Video Files As Screensavers?

Apr 24, 2010

So when I had Leopard 10.5, I used to use Save Hollywood as my screensaver application. What that does is transform any video file that you have in a screensaver. After Snow Leopard came out, Save Hollywood no longer works... I don't know what else to do, that was a must have for me and it is starting to frustrate me. Is there any other software that would allow me to use a video file as a screensaver that would work on Snow Leopard. Has Apple fixed this issue on 10.6.3?

MacBook Air :: MB Air Losing Battery During Sleep?

Jan 9, 2011

just been noticing something weird happening with the battery on my 13" Ultimate Air I got just under a week ago,It seems that when I put it to sleep it still loses battery power? I had it 100% charged last night before going to work, went to work today and turned it on for about 10 mins just to go on Safari over wifi, this seemed to drop the battery to about 97% when I was done, so that's fine.

I put it to sleep again, have just come home from work and I wake it up, it now shows 93% battery? Am I missing something here? I know for a fact the machine definitely went to sleep.

MacBook Pro :: Losing Its Anodization On Strip Below Keyboard

Nov 13, 2009

So my 2 year old apple macbook pro is losing its adonization on the strip just below the keyboard. I dont have a picture just yet, but it looks like this image, except it is below the left apple key and is much smaller in size: Before anyone asks:

1. I dont abuse my macbook. it cost me a fortune so i treat it like gold. it rarely leaves my desk, i wipe it down with a cloth once a week(light shammy cloth, the same as you use to clean guitars so as not to scratch them), I dont wear rings and i remove my watch before using the macbook so as not to scratch it.

2. I did not scratch it. I have saw die hard apple fans accusing folks with this issue of scratching the paint off with keys/pens etc, and of even photoshopping the image.

How does adonization come off? I thought it was a coating electronically plated onto the aluminium case? even heavy usage would not cause this, and i dont give it heavy usage at all. its really treated like a baby. Anyway, as the laptop is 2 years + old i doubt it will be under warranty. I will still be ringing up apple and complaining as its not the only thing that was wrong with this laptop. when i got it first, out of the box, the catch wouldnt work and it had to be sent back. the replacment i got had about 10 dead pixels and had to go back, and i finally got this one which has been fine for 2 years. This is a true sign that apple's quality control is non existent. This is appalling considering you pay a premium for the "quality" of their hardware. I dont know what my next computer will be. i like OSX, but as i cant get it legally on a non apple computer i will happly go to another OS if the hardware it runs on is of a better standard. I have a lenovo at work that is a fantastic machine so might look in that direction. Im not posting this to start a flame war, im just letting folks see my firsthand experience with apple and the falling quality of their products.

MacBook Pro :: Losing Disk Space - How To Clear It

Mar 8, 2010

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro running Leopard with a 500 GB drive.

I seem to be losing hard disk space for no reason while web surfing in about 500 MB chunks. I tried emptying the trash, clearing the safari cache and history, and all that returned was about 200 MB.

Since I noticed this a week ago I've been keeping track, and have lost 4.5 GB of space for no reason.

I'm not adding files nor running time machine or some other backup that's constantly creating a disk image.

MacBook Pro :: Losing Ability To Use Two External Monitors

Jun 18, 2010

The hardest thing moving away from my 2.4MBP was losing the ability to use two external monitors. Previously I'd been using a Matrox Digital TrippleHead2Go, driving 2 1600x1200 SyncMaster 214T. So I was pretty upset to suddenly be part of the 'Display Port' nightmare that Apple have inflicted upon us. And not just display port, but Mini display port. Anyway, I was glad to see last week that Matrox had everything back in stock again to finally resolve this issue. 'DualHead2Go DP Edition' sounded like the perfect solution, well almost... Of course I needed a mini DP to DP cable on the input side, and since most sensible monitors still use DVI, I needed 2 DP to DVI connector cables.

2 days later the package arrived. My first disappointment was the cables, 70EUR for three 20cm cables. Wow, that's being really mean. Fortunately the kit includes a DP->DP cable of a bit more reasonable length (50cm?) which allowed me to just get the box under the desk. Although of course the 20cm output DP->DVI cables were never going to reach 2 monitors, no matter how I balanced the box. So 2 DVI->DVI cables later and the whole thing was connected. On the software side I didn't bother with the included CD since I wanted to ensure I had the latest drivers - 1.02.01.008. (running on firmware 1.0.38). The software itself was better than my last experience of a head2go product, at least this time I didn't need a windows machine to configure the device! But I did spend some time double checking the specs that my GT330M was actually supported. It seemed only to offer me 800 or 1024 based display resolution. In the end I picked 1024 anyway just to try it, this seemed to trigger the head2go into detecting my actual monitors! although it still took quite some clicking back and forth between the Apple display settings (eventually set to 3200x1200), and the Matrox GXM software.

MacBook Air :: Losing Saved Changes In Excel & Word

Apr 3, 2012

I just migrated from Lion on an old MacBook series 2007 to a MacBook Air.  Yesterday, I opened up a grading file in Excel 2011, entered grades, saved the file (NOT Save As - just Save) handed back the assignments to my students - and then went to reopen the file later, and all of my changes were gone.  I made more changes, Saved, just opened the file again, and they aren't there.  To experiment, I opened the file just now, wrote in a silly comment on the top line, saved, reopened without quitting excel - and the changes aren't there.

A temporary work-around is that I can do a Save As every time I make changes, but that's ridiculous - I'm often updating a file and need the changes to be there. I just tried this with Word as well and I'm having the same problem - some Saved changes are there, some are not.
