OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Any Way To Wipe MacBook Air Without Losing MS Word / PowerPoint?
May 6, 2012
I am trying to wipe my MacBook Air but I fear when I do so I will loose my Microsoft word and power point. Is there anyway to wipe the laptop and not loose this software. Also, I don't have the cd keys for the Microsoft.
I just migrated from Lion on an old MacBook series 2007 to a MacBook Air. Yesterday, I opened up a grading file in Excel 2011, entered grades, saved the file (NOT Save As - just Save) handed back the assignments to my students - and then went to reopen the file later, and all of my changes were gone. I made more changes, Saved, just opened the file again, and they aren't there. To experiment, I opened the file just now, wrote in a silly comment on the top line, saved, reopened without quitting excel - and the changes aren't there.
A temporary work-around is that I can do a Save As every time I make changes, but that's ridiculous - I'm often updating a file and need the changes to be there. I just tried this with Word as well and I'm having the same problem - some Saved changes are there, some are not.
I downloaded Lion onto my Mac, and now cannot open or access any of my Microsoft word documents or Power Points. Is there a fix for this? I need my documents.
I've had an issue with Word 2011 twice now, where it'll lose some of the shortcut keys, for example Cmd-V won't paste and Cmd-A won't select all. In both cases I've been able to resolve this issue by deleting the Microsoft User Data folder.
I don't have any third-party addons or anything, and have never tried to customise the shortcut keys. I've updated to 14.0.1 and seen the issue since, so it wasn't fixed by that update.
I have recently started using Pages in iwork over Office, I like the easy formatting and usability of Pages. But I have to send all these recently create pages doc in a word format to someone and so I did the Save as Word option. When I opened the Word file in Word all the text formatting went all over the place, it looked like it put extra tabs in there and there is a split down the middle of the text like it has put it in two columns.
Is there any way to ensure that when I create my pages document that the formatting is agreeable with word.
When using the Disk Utility free space wipe to wipe sensitive data (using the 7 times option), I thought that would be sufficient.
I was wondering though, does the free space wipe option also wipe the slack files on the hard drive? Is this even an issue for a Mac? (I know on Windows the slack file needs to be wiped for a completely secure erase, right?)
We have just had a replacement drive put into a 15.4" MacBookPro and the installer made a mistake with the name. How can we change it to the right one? Do we have to insert the Mac OSX disc (Leopard) into the machine at start up and will this wipe anything that is on the machine?
About every other day, my Mac keeps losing connection to a Brother USB laser printer. I have to disconnect the USB connnection and reconnect it to get the Mac to see it as being online. I've used this printer on this Mac for years without problems.
i have an external drive that's 1TB that i use for all sorts of things but Time Machine as well.having read that the time machine backup tends to increase over time i'd like to make a partition for it, just like others have done in topics i've read.
the question is this, can i make a sub-partition of, say 100GB using disk utility or something but not lose data from my drive?
So my friend has Tiger and would like to install Leopard, and I remember reading somewhere that you could install it without losing any of your files? Is that true and how do I go about doing that?
When I Reply to a message I loose and images in the original message (including those in my original signature lines. Instead of the image I get <pastedGraphic.tiff> or <image001.png> or <ATT00108.gif>. Any new images (from my new signature lines) are ok. If I Forward a message all these original images are intact and get forwarded, so the problem is in the Reply function.
Is there anybody that has gone from Tiger to Snow Leopard and did this as an upgrade? Did all your music and pictures remain on your HD? Is it even possible to do it this way?
When I put my snow leopard disc in my computer, it has 1 option which says: Install Mac OSX and if I press that it says, press continue to restart your computer and installation will begin (or something like that). It's not clear to me if it's gonna erase my harddrive or not.
Due to certain problems with Logic Pro 8 I've got to do a clean re-install of Snow Leopard. But there is a problem: bootcamp partition. It was created with Snow Leopard to install Windows 7. Can I possibly do a clean install of Snow Leopard without losing Windows OS? Formatting only the Mac partition will do the trick? I ask you people because I've found various information on the web, although most threads concerned migration mac system as well
i want to upgrade my snow leopard to lion without losing any data, application, or others, i don't have external hard disk so is there any way to do it without backing up?
I'm sure most people suffer from this but here goes.
So I make a presentation on Mac Office powerpoint, everything is fine. I open it up at university on the PC, all is fine. I maybe change some text on a slide and save it again. Open the same file again on my Mac, and it won't open some silly error comes up saying trouble accessing file from mac HD.
Then luckily I have keynote, so I just open it in that and use that.
Point is why does this happen?? Whilst keynote is better, sometimes I have to edit things on a PC at work or uni and then it becomes a giant mess on my mac.
Is there a quick fix, or will I have to throw Mac Office into my growing pile of Microsoft related garbage.
I'm looking for a system that can track about 50 MBP's providing both remote wipe as part of an overall security protocol, and also remote screen/desktop for admin purposes. I looked at preyproject.com but it looks like they only do remote wiping/tracking. that I don't want something locked to a single user, it should be centrally managed.Â
Macbook Pro (2014) when I work with Microsoft office, Word, and use the "command v" keys the entire Word doc freezes and I need to reboot entire computer. What is this?
I have a MacBook. Last week I bought Microsoft Office for Mac. I would like to open documents sent in Word to be opened in Word. But my mac converts them to Pages.
Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Microsoft Office for Mac
Like whenever I wipe down my keyboard on my MacBook. I always think how convinient that would be to have a keyboard lock because I don't feel like shutting down to do a wipe down.
My MBP has been acting strangly for more than two months now. It started with taking a couple minutes to locate the WiFi, then just general slowness, and now is so troublesome that I want to just wipe it completely to factory fresh and try again. I nearly chucked it out a wondow today, the first time a Mac has made me feel like I was using a PC.I originally posted quite awhile ago (url...) although 300+ reads got not a single reply. So I don't know whether I am even posting this in the right area.is this more likely a Lion problem? Or something else? I don't know and am tired of being stressed. Had an important paper to write today and probably should have used my iPhone rather than trying to convince my MBP to work.
I have repaired the permissions, zapped the PRAM, re-installed Lion, re-RE-installed Lion, and tried just living in Safe Boot Mode. I just want my Mac to work, as it always has in the past. So now, let's just start fresh and see what happens. Except guess what? I can't find any specific instructions as to how to even do THAT.So I am begging someone to give me simple instructions to erase my hard drive so I can just start over.
So I buy a MacBook Pro 13 (super local deal) and my second post here is how to sell it! (I'm thinking about selling or returing it and getting the 15.) I have not done anything but the usuall new computer stuff that you walk through up when you turn it on for the first time and downloading Open Office to try it out. What is the best way to clear any data and reset it to factory spec so I don't leave any information?
