What does bluetooth do on my mbp?
Info:
MacBook Pro
I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I want to share between a PC and MBP via a DVI/USB KVM switch. I think I can do this by plugging a USB Bluetooth dongle into the KVM's USB input.
If I use the MBP's built-in bluetooth then when I switch from one computer to the other via the KVM, the keyboard and mouse will stay paired with the MBP; but if I disable the built-in hardware then the dongle can provide the bluetooth capability and be switched between the computers.
I've got a MacBook Pro 15" Early 2011 and I see unknown bluetooth devices under Bluetooth in System Preferences.
I never used Bluetooth on my MacBook but these devices appear.Â
Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
This isn't directly related to macbooks but if I want to use the bluetooth built into my computer to connect to my non bluetooth printer can I buy any USB bluetooth dongle to plug into the printer ( Kodak all in one 5300) or do I need some specific kind? All the ones I look at don't mention anything about printers just connection between computers and phones.

Hey guys..>I'm trying to set up my jabra bt200 bluetooth headset to work with my mac (osx 10.4.2, 15" powerbook 1.67ghz)...and I can get it to pair, but it won't stay connected for more than a split second. this is a problem i've seen a few people have, looking around on various forums and stuff, and i was trying various solutions when i decided to try doing a firmware upgrade on the internal bluetooth module. I downloaded the firmware updater (1.2), tried to run it and it came up with the following error:
"This computer does not have an Apple Bluetooth module installed. It cannot be updated by this application."
Why would my Powerbook not have an Apple Bluetooth module?!?!?! It's got bluetooth installed, it's internal, but looking at the system profile, it says it's the manufacturer is Cambridge Silicon Radio. So is this normal or what? Is the firmware upgrade even going to help me out in the end? Just to clarify...the powerbook came with bt installed factory...it's not something added by me!
So I finally install the latest updates from Apple, and reboot, and now my Bluetooth icon says "Bluetooth Unavailable". I have a 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4 with internal Bluetooth. I've been using BT since I got this thing in late 2004. Now the icon doesn't even show up in the control panel.
Has anyone else had this problem? I kind of need the BT to use my current setup. And I'm out of AppleCare time. (It's an OLD laptop.)
About half the time the bluetooth works fine, but the other half of the time the mouse jumps all over the screen like the bluetooth signal is bad or something.
I tried both an Apple bluetooth mouse, and a logitech DiNovo mouse and had the same problem with both of them so the mouse isn't the problem.
?Are there known issues with the MacBook Pro bluetooth?
Suddenly my bluetooth appeared with this icon and doesn't appear on System information and Preferences. I tried to reset vram, smc, shutdown, restart, etc with any success.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two MacBook Pros, each about 6 months old. They are both running the latest version of Lion. Neither one will pair with any bluetooth device. I always get an error message saying "this device does not have the necessary services".I have a Canon printer that won't pair, and I thougth it was just a compatibility issue until I tried to pair a Jawbone Jambox (which used to pair), and a brand new Bose portable speaker. I get the same message every time.

I would LOVE to pair a decent Bluetooth headset to the laptop for DVDs, iTunes while I surf/Facebook/etc. However, whenever I look on the Apple or CNET websites for Bluetooth headsets, all I can find are headsets for iPhones, MP3 players, etc, but none that indicate use with a MacBook or a laptop. Can someone tell me if I can get a Bluetooth set for this purpose and what modifications or upgrades, if necessary, are needed? More tech data related to my system are shown below in case it helps answer questions I'm not smart enough to ask.
Please don't tell me magic mouse. I hate that thing with a passion. Maybe it's the shape of my hand i dunno....but i srsly hate it.

What makes it worse is that I paired the speakers with my Blackberry 8300, and the phone sounds absolutely awesome playing the same mp3 file.. Has anyone notices anything about the sound output of the MBA, especially over BT?? Anything I can do to fix this?

I have googled and can't find much but is there a way to bluetooth text from my phone to my computer then from my computer to the phone to a recipient? I say bluetooth so that I don't have to use extra messages or get charged by my carrier for it. Is there an app that can do this? Basically I want to be able to leave my phone in my pocket and still receive text on my computer that come to my phone and then be able to respond from my computer.

Same applies to other mobiles and computers using bluetooth. I can receive files but can't send.
I've got an Aluminium Macbook 2.4ghz and when I'm using the internet wirelessly at home everything is great. However, when I use my wireless LAN at home to transfer movies or songs or whatever between my iMac which I now use as a server, and my Macbook, my Apple wireless keyboard and mighty mouse drop their connection frequently, or there is a lag with the mouse across the screen. My Macbook has been like this since the day I got it on the 6th of November 2008 and I've recently begun to wonder if this is normal.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the new base model 13-inch MacBook Pro, which was running perfectly until yesterday. Yesterday, the machine ran out of battery power and went into safe sleep. When I plugged in the power cord and woke it up, the bluetooth symbol in the menu bar had a jagged line through it. On restart, the bluetooth symbol had simply disappeared, and system profiler is showing bluetooth as "No information found.". I have had this problem before with a 2006 macbook, but it was solved by a restart. On searching the web I have found a number of suggested solutions, each of which I have tried: resetting PRAM, resetting SMC, deleting various bluetooth preferences, reinstalling OS X. None of these suggested solutions have worked.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy Apple keyboard has worked fine. Last night I lost my connection for the mouse and the keyboard(not unusual for the mouse). Had to set up both again. Mouse connected easily, keyboard took forever. Bluetooth would recognize it, it was discoverable(blinking green light), batteries strong, but could not make the connection. I did this over and over, finally got it. Tonight, same thing. Lost the mouse and the keyboard. Set them up again and same thing, mouse easy and keyboard still isn';t connected.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect my iPhone to my new mbp via bluetooth. The ultimate goal is being able to tether, using my different carrier profile that I have (4.0 maybe?). The thing I don't understand is that this worked legitimately like last week and then I got a new hdd and it now doesn't connect via bluetooth. If I go through the set up assistant, I can get the devices paired, but on both my computer and my iphone it says the devices are not "connected". If, on my iphone I click on MacBook Pro - Not Connected" I can see on my computer that it is connected for about 3 seconds and then it goes back to not being connected.
