MacBook Pro :: Does Replacing The Bottom Plate Of The Body Cost?

Jun 15, 2012

I am wondering if anyone knows what Apple charges to have the bottom plate of the MacBook Pro replaced. When I was at a store, an employee told me that it "might cost, like, uh, forty bucks," in a way that made me think he was just pulling that price out of his you-know-what. After searching eBay for that part and finding no auctions for less than $100, I assumed that Apple would charge something more like that.

It's really irritating that in order to replace two of my footpads, I must replace the whole bottom plate of the body. Apple is really trying to get people to buy the service plan, and then a new laptop when that runs out. Great for the environment. The whole unrepairable Retina Display MacBook debacle is just more proof of that.

Intel Mac :: Get Memory Plate Off With Screw Head Stripped?

Mar 12, 2012

I have been assigned the task of installing new memory modules into the iMacs at work. When I got to my supervisor's iMac, I discovered someone had been in to service the memory compartment at least once before. Only this person must have used a screwdriver that was too big to begin with and then cranked the central screw on the cover plate and stripped the head of the screw in the process. So now I cannot get this screw loosened. I obviously don't want to bend or damage anything. What would be a viable solution besides taking it in to a service tech?

MacBook Pro :: Is Memory / HDD Upgrades Viable

May 15, 2012

So, I have a 2009 MBP 2.66 Duo Core, 4MB ram, 320GB HDD, GeForce 9600M GT 256. I play mostly WoW, LoL, Civ, some FPS, Diablo 3- now that it's out, and a handful of others... I was planning on upgrading my HDD to 1TB and possibly doing a raid configuration for speed, as well as upgrading to 8MB ram. I realize the graphics card is going to be my biggest downfall- and to my understanding, not upgradable.   I guess my question is, Is the memory and HDD upgrades viable even though I probably won't be able to do anything with my graphics?

Mac Mini :: Deals On MM Memory Upgrades?

Sep 9, 2010

I am a frequent poster at places like Slick Deals, but seems that they are pretty anti-Apple. If anyone sees any great deals on Mac Mini 8GB Memory upgrades.....could they post them? I want to upgrade my Mac Mini, but as a single working mom on a serious budget, I can't frivolously spend cash on the Mini.....it's bad enough that I bought it. Would love to hear if anyone finds great deals. I'll even replace one stick at a time

Aperture :: Tools For Altering Photos Only Has A Fraction Of Tools Currently Available

Jun 2, 2014

It would appear that the new iPhoto app that is being prepared for cross-platform use is being optimzed for cross-platform as iWork applications have been.  The tools for altering photos only has a fraction of the tools currently available in Aperture (and even less than available in platforms like Lightroom.  There had been hope that with the new iMac Pro that there was going to be a supercharged version of Aperture...but no mention at that role out, nor in today's WWDC.

MacBook Pro :: 13" Bottom Plate Movement

I've just got a 13" MBP and I've noticed that around the middle of the bottom plate can be pressed in slightly. I can notice it most when I pick the laptop up by putting my hands underneath it and it bends inwards slightly. Does anyone else notice this on their MBPs?

MacBook Pro :: 15" Push In Bottom Plate?

Jun 15, 2012

I've got a MacBook Pro 15' from late 2011. Now, I noticed that when I take my macbook to move it, I can push in the bottom plate to the point where I notice it is touching internal components. When the macbook is in front of me (normal working position), the place where I can push it in is on the right side. Is this normal or should I bring it in?

I can't find the product online but the inside of the sleeve is micro-fibre-ish kind of material... I took some pictures but the quality is really bad, i took it from my cellphone.... I'm wondering if there's anyway to clean it up or do i have to live with it forever... Why does this happen? Might Apple cover it?

I got a new Macbook a few weeks ago (2GB RAM, 2.4Ghz Core Duo). Recently, it got really sluggish occasionally, up to the point where I could barely run Firefox properly.

Went into Activity Monitor and saw this:

DashboardClient just leaks out every hour or so, especially when waking from sleep. It's getting really annoying.

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has this issue with his book and if I should keep it or try to send it back? So, do you think this is normal?

MacBook Air :: Maximum Screen To Body Angle

Jul 1, 2008

I am thinking of getting the mba (or rather the mba 2 hopefully because I wouldn't want any nast core shutdowns and from what I ve been reading apple's awful customer support) and I d like to know one specification that I can't seem to find online. I read somewhere of the "by design" limit of the maximum angle to which the screen can go back wrt the mba's body. I was looking at it in a store and it is rather limited, and as I a used to holding my lappie in a way that requires a somewhat large opening it would great if I could find out exactly what the degrees are. (I usually like to sit on a sofa with legs arched in an upside down V shape and laptop on my lap which requires that the screen be moved further back to get the right constrast - I am sure a lot of people must find this way very comfy).

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Completely Leveled With Rest Of Body?

May 13, 2010

Is the trackpad supposed to be completely leveled with the rest of the body? The reason I ask is because I have noticed that on some MBPs the trackpad is "pushed" down into the body a little. It is not much but it is definitely visible, there is an indentation. Is this normal or is it a manufacturing defect?

MacBook Pro :: Screen Off Center After Being Dropped - Catches On The Body

May 29, 2010

I recently dropped my Machine at an angle and it seemed to knock my screen off center. When closed, part of the machines body is exposed where it used to be covered by the screen. It's only off by a hairline or two. It sticks out the same distance on the back of the machine. When I open or close it, the machine catches on the body and makes a slight scratching sound. How can this be repaired ? How will the Apple store treat this ?The machine did power itself off as well. I'm hoping I wont have to pay an arm and a leg for a bent piece of plastic

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Surface Not Parallel To Body Of Laptop

My Macbook pro's trackpad isn't parallel to the body of the laptop. that is, one end of the trackpad (left) is higher than the other (right). This creates the interesting effect of being able to slide ones finger off of the left side of the trackpad and onto the area below the keyboard with almost no resistence. while on the right side you feel a ledge if you try the same motion.

I haven't tried any fixes as it seems to be hardware issue.

MacBook Pro :: Finding Upgrades For MBP?

Nov 15, 2010

I have a 2.4GHz MBP, 4GB RAM, 320M, 500GB HDD. This is my main to-go machine, as well as my clamshell with my ACD. I am planning on ordering 2 updates for the machine (Already ordered the first one, actually)

1. 500GB 7200.4 RPM Seagate w/16MB Cache.

2. 8GB OWC RAM upgrade.

I hear both of these are ridiculously easy upgrades to do, and this also allows me to upgrade my PS3 slim's HDD to 500GB!

Do you guys think this is a worthwhile upgrade for someone who writes code in XCode?

Also, does anyone know how to back up my iWeb site so I don't have to remake it when I format?
