OS X :: What To Delete To Get Memory Back

May 25, 2009

I have had my macbook for a couple of months now. I have about 400 pictures, a few songs on itunes and thats about it. I have a 160 gb HDD, but now I have just over 127gb. What can I delete to get some more memory back? I am not bothered about printers or anything like that. Just want the bare minimum.

OS X :: DashboardClient Using Way Too Much Memory - How To Get Back

Oct 2, 2010

I got a new Macbook a few weeks ago (2GB RAM, 2.4Ghz Core Duo). Recently, it got really sluggish occasionally, up to the point where I could barely run Firefox properly.

Went into Activity Monitor and saw this:

DashboardClient just leaks out every hour or so, especially when waking from sleep. It's getting really annoying.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Use Memory Cards - Unable To Add / Delete Anything

Mar 12, 2012

I have had my MBP for just over a year now. I am thinking I have somehow altered my settings recently to cause this issue. I have had no problem before using memory cards (such as from my camera) on my MBP. Now, I can open them, but can't delete from them nor add to them. The cards are not locked. I bought a brand new card and popped it in and have the same issue, I can't add anything to it from my computer nor can I change the name on the card.

For Example: I Have 143.95GB on the External Hard Drive free but when I delete a 20gig file it doesn't give the space back on the External Hard Drive, it stays at 143.95GB. Also, this happens with many of my flash drives etc.

MacBook Pro :: Delete Key Goes Forward Not Back?

Jun 1, 2012

I know the factory setting on a macbook pro have the delete key going backward. Somehow my macbook pro has the delete key going forward.  I think my daughter hit fn/delete by accident.  I want the delete key to go backwards to the left.  I tried system preference - keyboard- restore default but that didn't work.  And hitting control h everytime I make a typo is taking way too long.  How do I get it back so the delete backspaces?

OS X :: Delete EFI System Partition - Convert GPT Back To MBR

Apr 12, 2009

I converted a 500G External USB SATA hard drive from MBR to GPT no problem. It could be done using either Vista 32bit or WinXP 64bit the conversion under XP Pro SP3 32bit was not possible maybe because diskpart was still an older version and not updated to a newer version. My work on the Mac is done now and I want to convert my drive back to MBR so I can use it with windows. I've erased and then deleted all the partitions I had created on the drive. Using WinXP 32bit and Disk Management I see only one big partition (465.76 GB Healthy (GPT Protective Partition)) Using WinXP 64bit and Disk Management I can see there is a 200Mb EFI Systems Partition followed by 464.44 Gb of Unallocated space. How do I get rid of this EFI Systems Partition that is stopping me when using diskpart to convert to MBR?

My sister bought a second hand Mac Book Pro. According to Mac Book Pro specs. this unit should have had a 250G - 320G Hard Drive but someone had replaced with a 120G before she got her hands on it. My assumption then is that theywhoever it was that switched the drive must have also replaced the DVD drive at the same time as well........................

OS X :: Delete Java - Show Back Up Software

Aug 9, 2009

After updating some software on my dad's macbook the other day he was having a problem with Safari crashing every time I opened it. After following the Apple troubleshooting guide I found posted in these forums, I searched and discovered that it was the Java plugin that was causing Safari to crash. I deleted that plugin and now can run safari, but I am unable to use anything with Java. I am trying to find a way to reinstall the plugin but can't find a way to do this since the java site just says to run software update to update java for mac. where I can get this plugin, if it is even possible? Or is there a way that I can delete java and it will show back up in my software update so I can attempt a reinstall?

Jan 26, 2010

Alright, here's the situation. I have a 1TB external set up with 250gigs partitioned for backing up with time machine, and the rest just for storing files. My time machine partition was full so i decided to move the 5 oldest backups to the trash to make some more room. But when i went to delete trash it counted up to a couple million files and just sat there saying preparing to delete. It was never able to actually start deleting the files, it was just preparing to delete for a couple hours.

I haven't saved anything on this disk so I can not understand why this memory has dissappeared. I have also had icons on the start up menu disappear. Could someone please tell me how I can restore the missing memory?
